2 Fundraiser to help Marist player fight for sight Kye Portelli is in Year 9 and has been diagnosed with a rare eye condition that s causing him to go blind. An 80s/90s Night is being held on Saturday to help raise funds for Kye s Mum to take him to the US for further medical advice and to enjoy some sights while he s able to. 3 A successful season for Marist Girls footy The Marist Junior and Youth Girls Teams wrapped their seasons up with at the respective Marist trophy nights, concluding another successful year of Marist Girls Footy. The Marist Junior Girls recognised the entire playing squad, Coach Amy Woods and Co-Managers Rebecca Rose and Jane Short. Well done to the team and all who assisted to make this such a fun and fruitful year. The Marist Youth Girls recognised the team that will go down in Marist history as the inaugural Senior Girls Team, comprising of Girls in upper secondary school. Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Heller Bishop, Coach Matt Fong, and Manager Tracy Bruce for all their hard work in a landmark year for Marist Girls footy. Congratulations also goes to our inaugural Youth Girls award winners (see above). The girl s competition is set to expand again in Marist is currently taking expressions of interest for players, coaches and managers for girl s teams in the following age groups: Junior Girls: school years 3-4 Junior Girls: school years 5-6 Youth Girls: school years 7 8 Youth Girls: school years 9 11 Please submit your interest in the above to girlsfooty@maristfc.com.au Changes ahead for Year 11 and Year 12 Competition 2019 sees continuous change for Junior football in WA with the biggest change coming in the Year 11s and 12s, whilst the final details are yet to be released it will be a combined competition. Marist is looking forward to fielding two teams in this competition and is excited about our Year 10s returning and welcoming back previous players currently playing elsewhere in Year 10 or 11 this year. We are currently planning our coaching appointments for all our Youth teams and will soon be in contact to let players know. Jesse Hogan and Travis Colyer back in WA Former Marist players and talented AFL stars Jesse Hogan and Travis Colyer are returning home to play for the Fremantle Dockers. Jesse has been playing with Melbourne, while Travis has been with Essendon. Marist would like to congratulate Jesse and Travis on their move back to WA and wish them all the best for next season. 4 A word from the President Firstly, I d like to congratulate players and parents for their contribution in making 2018 a very successful year both on and off the ground. The club s focus on good sportsmanship, competitiveness and development is a formula for success regardless of whether teams win or lose their games, and we look forward to continuing this in Club Annual General Meeting Our AGM was well attended and I am excited about the future with many new faces joining returning members for a fresh new committee. Whilst most of you aren t thinking about footy, preparations are well underway for 2019 as before we know it the season will be here. Northern Conference Fairest and Best Awards Marist Football Club was well represented at the Fairest and Best awards. Matao Owen was the standout for the club taking out the Year 9 Blue Division Fairest and Best. In the Year 10 Red Division Tatenda Makova was the runner up Fairest and Best, missing out by just one vote in his first season of football. In the Year 12s it was highlighted what a great team they are with 5 of the top 10 being Marist players. Luke Knight was runner up Fairest and Best with Jake Benetti and Ronin O Connor finishing equal third. Bridget Camisa had a great season and this showed with her third placed finish in the Year 9-11 Red Division Youth Girls competition. Massive congratulations to Jordan Smith who not only won the Claremont District Youth Volunteer of the year but took out the Northern Conference title as well. Jordan gives a lot to community, including coaching our Yr 10 team at Marist and Newman but also a Claremont Development squad team. 5 Year 12 Winners Congratulations to our successful Year 12 team taking out the Northern Conference Premiership, defeating Warrick Greenwood to In control all game our boys continued to work hard right to the end with strong contributors in all areas. The team had multiple goal scorers; Luke Ricciardi kicked 2, while Jack Penniment, Angus Tippett, Isaak Dennison, Luke Knight and Sol Slattery booted one each. Luke Knight capped off an outstanding season with a best on ground performance as voted by the umpires. Well done to coach Matt Angus for the entire season, he was well supported by assistants Matt Geldard-Kerr, Nathan Mills and Team Manager Pam Benetti. Special mention to finals runner Jeremy Malaxos.
