1 Woden Swim Club Home of the Sharks WEBSITE : wodenswimclub.org.au WHAT S ON IN MARCH 3 rd -5 th : SNSW State Open Championships Sydney 12 th : SNSW Speedo Sprint Finals - Sydney 19 th : Queanbeyan Development Meet #4 AIS 19 th : ACT Relay Championships AIS 19 th : ACT Distance Meet #4 AIS 26 th : Brophy AIS 26 th : National Age Time Trial -AIS Club Night FRIDAY, 24 MARCH 2017 A few points on the NSW Country championships to supplement the excellent report from Lisa. It is always pleasing to see new swimmers competing at this level and the efforts of Eric were particularly noteworthy including his excellent efforts in the relays up against much older swimmers. It was also very exciting to see a couple of first time medallists in Jessica (two including another national qualifying time) and Kurt with his fine 50 FS swim. These meets are about racing to the best of our ability and learning from our experience. The team raced very well despite some illness in the group finishing very high up in the pointscore. This was the result of some very strong medal winning swims but just as importantly consistent efforts and results across the team. I was very happy with both the positive team morale as well as the racing effort. Amongst the lessons learnt was the need to get to marshalling on time. At this level it means at least 2 events before the swimmers race. A special thought for Amy who was very disappointed at not being able to compete due to illness. Amy had prepared very well but she will get further opportunities to show how she has progressed. Finally an outstanding swim form Yaroslav in the 50 FS further lowering the ACT record and breaking 30 seconds for the first time. 1 st : ALEXEY 9yrs (Blue) 3 rd : LANA 12yrs (Blue) 7 th : KURT 11yrs (Bronze/Silver) 14 th : EMILY 9yrs (Blue) 24 th : LEWIS 8yrs (Blue) 24 th : LIBBY 9yrs (Blue) 3-5 February 2017 : ACT Championships/Speedo Sprints We had a great team of Sharks compete at the ACT Championships/Speedo Sprints at the AIS on the 3rd, 4th & 5th of February, 2017 including: Emily, Patrick, Amy, Emma G, Olivia, Brooke, Jarrod, Jessica, Kurt, Ethan, Jake M, Kiara, Jake N, Libby, Nicholas, Ben, Imogen, Lillian, Jasmine T, Natasha, Rebecca, Eric, Kevin and Yaroslav. Fantastic results Team Woden!! A very special CONGRATULATIONS to our Sharks who qualified for the Speedo Sprint Finals to be held at SOPAC (Sydney) on Sunday, 12 March They are: EMILY, PATRICK, AMY, KURT, NICHOLAS, LILLIAN, ERIC, KEVIN & YAROSLAV!!! The meet report on our website was HUGE!!!, but there were just so many fantastic results. Amongst our talented team we had Sharks that hadn t seen a PB in ages; and some that were a bit under the weather, with one just getting over the Chicken Pox, and yet, every single one of our Sharks achieved greatness in one form or another. We are so very proud of you!! They all deserve recognition for their outstanding achievements. Well done everyone and THANK YOU Coach Steve for your support and mentoring throughout the Championship. 3 10 & 11 February : Queanbeyan twilight Carnival We had 10 Sharks compete at the Queanbeyan Twilight Carnival held on Friday and Saturday, 10 & 11 February 2017 including Emily, Patrick, Olivia, Brooke, Nicholas, Benjamin S, Imogen, Lillian and new members Ben S and Will. In spite of the temperatures soaring 39 degrees on Friday evening and 41 degrees on Saturday evening, our Sharks competed at their best in such conditions. One particular fantastic result was from Olivia who competed in 3 events and achieved a 100% PB rate with a HUGE second PB in her 200m Freestyle. WELL DONE everyone and THANK YOU Coach Amanda for your coaching and mentoring throughout the meet February : 2017 NSW LC Country Championships We had 13 Sharks including Emma G, Jarrod, Jessica, Kurt, Ethan, Jake M, Kiara, Nicholas, Benjamin St, Will, Jasmine, Eric and Yaroslav compete at the 2017 NSW LC Country Championships, held at SOPAC, Sydney on Friday, 24th through to Sunday, 26th February Unfortunately, Amy became ill and was unable to compete, however I am sure she will be on the blocks at many more championships in the future. Our Sharks competed at such a high standard and were fantastic competitors. To put the Championships into perspective, there were over 950 competitors from 101 swimming clubs across New South Wales. Our Club PLACED 13TH on the Pointscore, bringing home 17 MEDALS with 3 being GOLD, 7 SILVER and 7 BRONZE. It was an amazing three days and all our Sharks should be extremely proud of their efforts. THANK YOU Coach Steve for your continual coaching, mentoring and support; THANK YOU Glenn (Jake & Kiara s Uncle) for being our Shark and accompanying our team in the parade; and CONGRATULATIONS to all our amazing Sharks for your wonderful achievements throughout this championship event.
