She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from Ohio University. She has held numerous leadership roles in the tripartite of the American/Texas/Dallas Dental Hygiene Associations. Lisa is an author, clinician, educator, and national speaker and is currently guest speaking for Colgate. Lisa is the Dental Hygiene Director at Concorde College in San Antonio, TX. Sara Dowst, RN, BSN graduated from the Louise Herrington School of Nursing at Baylor University with a Bachelor s degree in nursing in She is a member of the American Nurses Association and is a published author and speaker. Sara works as a full time ICU charge nurse at Texoma Medical Center in Sherman, Texas where she specializes in cardiac care. She lives in McKinney, Texas with the love of her life and two rowdy puppies! "It's Time to Talk About Sex in Dentistry...HPV & It's Link to Oral Cancer"... Friday; 9:00-4:00-6 CEUs...The new millennium has brought about great advances in technology and innovation; and one of those advancements is the discovery of HPV's link to head and neck cancer. Thirty-five years ago, it was postulated a virus called human papillomavirus could cause cervical cancer, today, it is well established that this very heterogeneous virus causes a variety of cancers. HPV is now considered a human carcinogen. Unlike other cancers of the mouth, HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers are more likely to occur among younger patients, white men, those without the traditional risk factors of tobacco and alcohol, and those with certain sexual histories. HPV's public awareness has started to grow and has been featured in the mainstream press more frequently. As public awareness continues to grow, so will the knowledge base of the dental health care providers who treat them. This course has a unique approach to discussing HPV from both a dental and medical perspective by being written and published as a peer-reviewed continuing education course through Penn Well, Inc. by an RN and an RDH. HPV disease trends, statistics, morphology, transmission, vaccination and cancers relation will be discussed. Oral serum testing for dental professionals will be presented as well as enhanced oral cancer screenings devises. This course will 1. Review oral cancer screening techniques and the importance of extra and intraoral screening. 2. Present HPV morphology, typing and the different systemic infections HPV types can cause in the human body. 3. Review statistics and transmission of HPV and understand the latest research, trends, associated with HPV. 4. Educate the dental clinician on HPV as it relates to oral cancer and discuss enhanced screenings tools, oral serum testing and vaccination. "Confessions from a Dental Hygiene Ballerina" Saturday; 9:00-12:00 - CEUs The CDC reports 3.5% of women and 2.5% of men in the United States currently suffer from an eating disorder. Eating disorders are the 3 rd most common psychiatric diagnosis in adolescents with one of the highest death rates of any mental health condition. This course will explore eating disorders from a perspective you have never heard before. After 20 years of dancing ballet, I have witnessed first-hand people suffering from a variety of eating disorders. This course discusses anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and over-eating/binge-eating from the clinic and personal perspective. Through attending this course, the dental health professional will become better armed with the right tools in providing care to patients with eating disorders. This course will 1. Define eating disorders based on the DSM-5: anorexia nervosa, bulimia, over-eating/binge-eating. 2. Present current statistics associated with each disorder, including worldwide epidemic obesity rates. 3. Discuss risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of eating disorders. 4. Present dental treatment considerations for working with the patient with an eating disorder. "Puff, Not the Magic Dragon..The Cost of America's Tobacco Use"... Saturday; 1:00-4:00-3CEUs...With the changing and turbulent political climate in America as it relates to the legalization of marijuana and the influx of newer tobacco products to the market, health care professionals are facing new challenges in educating and working effectively with patients to promote healthy lifestyles. Staying current with these changes, and understanding the consequences these new products bring to total body health and wellness, can be a daunting task for busy professionals. This course will pre sent current statistics of tobacco and marijuana use, discuss tobacco's effect on the human body and relate nicotine pharmacology to tobacco cessation. The chemical composition of cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes, Snus, Hookah, and marijuana will be presented to help keep the health care professional current to the changes in

This course has a unique approach to discussing all these topics from both a dental and medical perspective by being written and published as a peer-reviewed continuing education course through Penn Well, Inc. by an RN and an RDH This course will: 1. Assist the health care professional in staying current with the latest trends in America as it relates to tobacco and marijuana use. 2. Discuss the adverse effects these chemical agents can have on a patient's general health and well-being. 3. Identify patients at higher risk for tobacco abuse by presenting current statistic trends 4. Understand the different forms of tobacco products currently on the market in the United States and their components. 5. Present FDA approved tobacco cessation programs and products. 6. Discuss why relapse rates are so high for tobacco users.
