3 BOGS Hash House Harriers Every Wednesday at 7:15pm Joe Norman Easy Running with Bogs H3 Bogs of Somerset Hash House Harriers is the perfect way to take some exercise in a sociable group, whether you walk or run, while getting to know the woods and paths of N. Somerset. Hashing is an enjoyable way to keep moderately fit. More specifically, it s sociable jogging for runners of any standard. Runs are typically four miles in an hour and a half, and follow an interesting trail laid by one or more hares. The trail is a puzzle to be solved by the pack. There are checks every so often, where enthusiastic runners can run further searching for the correct path, and the rest of us can have a rest. Hashing is not a race, the aim is that, because of the checks and various false trails, everyone, from the fit to the walkers, travels more or less together. Bogs Hash is walker-friendly (about half of us walk rather than run) and you are welcome to bring your dog. If you d like to try Hashing, just turn up at one of the runs. We meet somewhere in North Somerset every Wednesday evening (7:15pm) and sometimes on Saturday afternoons (usually 2pm on the last Saturday in the month). Check our website to see where we are this week or phone Joe or Valerie After the run we get together for a drink, a chat and a sandwich. Dress is casual running gear (trainers, shorts/tracksuit, T-shirt). Don't dress up; it can be muddy. Bring spare shoes for when we gather for a chat and some food.

9 Recipe of the Month Eating well can lead to higher energy levels, a healthy body weight, improved sleep and better concentration. It will also help protect you from illness, so overall you will feel better than if you chose an unbalanced diet. Pancakes with caramelised apples If you're feeding children, remember that they don't need to eat as much as an adult and need kid-sized portions. If you're cooking for fewer people you can simply reduce the quantities, or why not make the full amount and freeze extra portions for another day? Serves: 4 adults Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 12 minutes 75g plain flour 1 egg 200ml 1% fat milk 2 tsp vegetable oil 1 apple cored and thinly sliced 1 tsp caster sugar 1 lemon finely grated zest, plus juice 1. Put the flour into a large jug or mixing bowl. Add the egg and milk and beat with a wire whisk or a hand-held electric beater to make a smooth batter. 2. Heat a pancake pan or non-stick frying pan. Add 2-3 drops of vegetable oil. Pour in a quarter of the batter, and tilt the pan so that it flows evenly over the surface. Cook over a medium heat for 1-2 minutes until set, then flip over to cook the other side. Make 4 pancakes in total, adding 2-3 drops of oil to the pan for each one. Keep the pancakes in a warm place until all of them are cooked. 3. Heat the remaining oil in the frying pan and add the apple slices, cooking them over a medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes, and turning often. Sprinkle the sugar over them and cook for another few moments until lightly browned. Add the lemon zest and juice, stir to coat and remove from the heat. 4. Serve one pancake per person, topped with the caramelised apples.
10 Tips: 1. If you have time, leave the batter to stand for 10 minutes, though stir before adding to the pan. 2. You could use half plain and half wholemeal flour to get more fibre into your diet. 3. If you like, add a sliced banana to the frying pan with the lemon zest and juice, and mix with the apple before sharing between the pancakes. Canned fruit in natural juice is also an economical option.
