2 SPRING INTENSIVE BEGINNER CLASSES BEGINNER 1 Introduction to Tango Embrace: open and close, distances in the embrace, point of contact. Walking the tango: the correct way of walking, stepping in single and double time, basic step, cross and resolution. April 10 6:30-7:50pm BEGINNER 2 Learning the forward ocho for the woman and how the man leads the forward ocho. Combining the basic step with forward ocho and circulating the dance floor. April 12 1:00-2:20pm BEGINNER 3 Learning the amague with ocho cortado. Back ocho with proper lead for the man. Combining back ocho with basic step, amague and ocho cortado. Implementation of all these combination with music and circulation in the room. April 14 6:30-7:50pm BEGINNER 4 Technique s Tango I : Balance and Body Alignment, awareness of the movement, displacement of the Axis. How to prepare the body for Tango: relaxation of the musculature of the back, movement and breathing. Tango walking: how to push the floor while we are walking and move with the music: step on the beat and playing with double beat Men s Technique: stop imposing to start dancing with the other. Ladies Technique: unfollow to start dancing with the other. May 3 1:00-2:20pm BEGINNER 5 Technique s Tango I: Dissociation and change of direction of the movement, torsion of the axis, the origin of the pivots. Ochos, different ways to do ochos. Mix these elements with the basic steps and walking. May 5 BEGINNER 6 Milonga: Musical elements. Connected with the essence of milonga rhythm, a cheerful feeling. Basic Technical elements of Milonga. Changes of speed and dynamics. May 7 BEGINNER 7 Learning the basic turn, different places Where you can start turn, codes of turn for the woman and how to lead the giro for the man. May 30 3:00-4:20pm BEGINNER 8 Introduction to Milonga, exercises rhythm beats, speed, coordination and musicality. June 1 BEGINNER 9 Introduction to valz, exercises, rhythm, musicality, cadencia and valz specific concepts. June 2
3 SPRING INTENSIVE INTERMEDIATE CLASSES INTERMEDIATE 1 Beyond basic techniques for the dance floor in Embrace, musicality and circulation. Embrace: points of contact, body structure, body coordination, energy transfer between partners. Musicality: cadence, rhythm and melody. Circulation: the importance of rebounding in tight spaces, sudden changes in direction pivots, pauses and silences. April 10 8:10-9:30 INTERMEDIATE 2 Technique for women: posture, equilibrium, step projection, walking elegantly, ornaments in walks, pauses and turns. Technique for men: posture, importance of the back to lead, steps and steps projection, lápiz, agujas y enrosques. April 12 2:40-4:00pm INTERMEDIATE 3 Dancing in milongas as in Buenos Aires. Building on techniques learned in lessons 1 & 2 to dance in different dynamics and orchestras. Musicality: adequate relationship between dance figures and music, different dance dynamics. Circulation: space usage, dance in square, coordination with others couples on the dance floor. April 14 8:10-9:30 INTERMEDIATE 4 Walking and Circulation on the dance floor. Listen to the music and others couples on the floor. Leading and Connection in the couple: of Intention to the Invitation. Salida Simple: (Basic) simple and cross basic, how to use in the track circulation. Ochos (forward and back) as the origin to the Voleos. Rebounds: Helping us to change the directions and to control of the Axis. May 3 2:40-4:00pm INTERMEDIATE 5 Change of embrace : How, When and Why? Turns: Women active role and man s intervention in the sequence of the Turn, Enrosque y Lapiz, take care of our axis and how to make the turn fluently. Different starts and finishes in turns. May 5 INTERMEDIATE 6 Milonga Walking,Traspie and Corridas. Milonga Sequences. Play with the music. May 7 INTERMEDIATE 7 "New Elements in tango salon: couple communication in closed and open embrace, invasions and "sacadas" for both roles, double boleo, "turns " with "enrosques", "volcadas y colgadas" breaking the embrace. May 30 4:30-5:50pm INTERMEDIATE 8 Valz: rhythm and tempo, specific figures" cadenas" turns, tips of dynamics and other vals specific concepts. June 1 INTERMEDIATE 9 Milonga: exercises, speedmaster on legs, make and reception, coordination and musicality for milonga "lisa" and " traspié". These elements will be used to dance and improvise. Without leaving Winnipeg, over an eight week period, you will have the exceptional opportunity to learn tango fundamentals and technique with expert guest instructors from Buenos Aires. Beginners, this is the program you have been waiting for. Get an incredible foundation with 12 hours of instruction (9 classes) for Beginners. READY FOR THE NEXT LEVEL? Have you been dancing tango for a while? Haven t been able to get to Buenos Aires lately? Benefit from 12 hours of instruction (9 classes) at the Intermediate level to refine and develop your tango. Imagine: the expertise and magic of dancers from Buenos Aires right here in Winnipeg. With classes spread over eight weeks, you will have time to practice and integrate new techniques so you can build on them at the next classes. The Winnipeg Tango Club Instructors will be working with the Expert Guest Instructors to practice what has been taught in between Guest Instructor Sessions. A range of flexible and affordable passes are possible to suit different schedules and budgets. OUR EXPERT GUEST INSTRUCTORS Fernanda Japas and Alberto Sendar, back by popular demand, will be teaching twice this spring.
