1 God s heart in healthcare since 1939 Healthcare Chaplains Ministry Association 79th Annual Clinical Conference Relationships Join other chaplains and clergy to learn and exchange ideas that will help us thrive in the diverse relationships God has brought and will bring into our personal and professional lives. April 22-25, 2018 Calvary Chapel Conference Center Murrieta, California
2 Ken & Joni Tada 9 a.m. Session [1.25 CCEU]» Monday «Caregiving: A Cause for Christ Ken Tada Every caregiver suffers on the edge of burn-out, while often feeling isolated and alone. Does anyone understand? Are there resources to help? In this frank and honest presentation, Ken Tada, husband to Joni Tada for over 35 years, will share his serious, yet encouraging, perspective on caregiving. Ken will present critical keys to maintaining emotional health, physical energy and stamina, and spiritual refreshment. He speaks with authority, for he understands caregiving inside and out. 1. To help the listener understand the emotional struggles and loneliness with which every caregiver wrestles. 2. To give clear and concise helps which can be offered to caregivers as practical paths toward help and hope. 10:30 a.m. Session [1.25 CCEU] Marriage and Disability: A Journey through Scripture and Song Joni Tada Every marriage has its challenges, but add disability to the mix and marriage commitments can easily falter. In this winsome, yet candid, message employing both Scripture and song, Joni will lead the listener through her 35-year journey of marriage to Ken. Her message tells the untold story of how God s strength has empowered them through the many weaknesses that quadriplegia brings to their life together. 1. To gain a fuller understanding of how confession of sin is critical in a healthy marriage. 2. To help the listener see the importance of building habits of Bible reading and prayer in a marriage. 1:30 p.m. Session [1 CCEU] Questions & Answers Ken and Joni Tada This is an open forum where the free exchange of ideas is encouraged with the main focus on relationships from the perspective of Ken and Joni Tada. Asking questions is a form of intellectual exploration, sparked by true curiosity. Questions help us probe the validity of an assumption, to analyze the logic of an argument, and to explore the unknown. The ministry of Ken and Joni Tada through Joni and Friends, is to answer the call in the Gospel of Luke 14, "invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind and you will be blessed...make them come in so my house will be full." They present the clear and concise Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people affected by disability and their families who are served through their programs around the world. They train, disciple, and mentor people affected by disability to exercise their gifts of leadership and service in their churches and communities. They energize the church to move from lack of awareness to including disabled persons into the fabric of worship, fellowship, and outreach. They definitely have something practical to say to chaplains and clergy about relationships.

Continuing Education Credit Participants can earn Chaplaincy Continuing Education credit (CCEUs) for turning in an evaluation form for sessions attended for up to a total of 14 CCEUs Among the many attributes of this 47- acre resort, there is a central lake that is fed by mineral spring water. This hot water (140º) emerges from the ground after rising through the granite gravel of the Elsinore Fault. In addition, there is an Olympic-sized swimming pool, which was modeled after the Hearst Castle pool. Nearby is a sizable Roman-style spa that can seat 70 people and is heated by the revitalizing mineral rich hot springs. Additional recreational activities include tennis, ping pong, bass fishing, a pool table, and much more. Come relax and refresh your body and soul while you stretch and inspire your mind! RELATIONSHIPS What do we want most out of life? Most of us would probably rank healthy relationships high on the list. We understand that making a pile of money would only result in a very shallow life if our relationships are broken or shallow. A poor man with a loving family and good friends is far richer than a rich man who is poor relationally. The Bible ranks a loving relationship with God as of first importance, but loving relationships with others is second (Matthew 22:37-40). God s Word is all about these two important relationships. Because the Bible emphasizes healthy relationships so highly, and because relationships are such a vital part of our ministry as chaplains, this year s conference theme is focused on relationships. That s why Ken and Joni Tada are coming: to share with us their biblical perspective on healthy relationships as caregivers and as spouses. The opening and closing sessions will focus on cultivating and sustaining both personal and professional relationships. Our morning prayer time will have an emphasis on relationships, as will also a fun game night. We will also have two sessions that will focus on cross-cultural/race relationships. Because relationships are so important, your presence at this Conference is highly valued. Make the necessary plans for you to attend. We look forward to seeing you there. Conference Committee
