WELCOME November 29, 2018 Dear Colleagues, It is our pleasure to welcome you to GOC s 12 th Communities of Practice (CoPs) Fall Forum, November 30 December 1, This year s Forum will kick-off with the BRCA Half-Day and with the introduction of the National BRCA Collaborative. The CoP Day will start on Friday afternoon. Over the years, GOC has developed partnerships with industry, clinical practitioners, patient advocacy groups and key institutions/organizations that have an interest in gynecologic oncology. It is through these partnership that we launched the Precision Medicine Ecosystem in Gynecologic Oncology starting with our BRCA TTOT (Testing to Treatment) Initiative. On May 11, 2018, the National BRCA Collaborative was established as a phase-progression of the BRCA TTOT Initiative. The Collaborative represents the coordination and harmonization of a variety of health professionals and patient organizations whose interests lie in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of BRCA-related malignancies. Although health care delivery is provincially managed, the benefit of a coordinated voice is essential to advancing BRCA initiatives especially in terms of disparity of knowledge, technology and practice.

WELCOME The goals of the Collaborative are to establish and coordinate a roadmap of activities that support the implementation of BRCA awareness, testing and treatment of malignancies, as well as to provide a platform for education and research opportunities across disciplines and stakeholders involved in the BRCA patient and provider groups. The current members of the Collaborative include: Ovarian Cancer Canada (OCC) The Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) The Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) The Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) The Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) The Society of Gynecologic Oncology of Canada (GOC)

WELCOME The second focus of the meeting will be to build on the work of the communities of practice. During the CoP Day sessions, you will be enlisted to participate in a number of working groups which will collectively help populate the frameworks or draft papers for a number of documents and projects. We have engaged several industry partners to move the identified care issues forward. These are namely: CoP Fall Forum and Project Supporters: Astra Zeneca Merck Canada Oncology and Vaccine Minogue Medical Inc. Roche Diagnostics Hoffmann-La Roche Project Supporters only: Leo Pharma Sanofi

WELCOME We look forward to your participation. We believe that this meeting will continue to reinforce not only the GOC foundational strategies, but will also define our next steps in the next twelve months. This will require all of our collective thoughts and energies. We are especially looking forward to welcoming our new colleagues and partners to their first CoP Forum, and most of all to having a great creative, and fun time. We look forward to seeing you in Montreal! James Bentley GOC President Michael Fung-Kee-Fung GOC Chief Strategy Officer

THE GOC COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE A Community of Practice (CoP) represents a group of professionals, informally bound to one another through exposure to a common class of problems and common pursuit of solutions. Communities of Practice are a way of developing social capital, nurturing new knowledge, stimulating innovation, and sharing knowledge. Communities of practice knit people together with peers and their outputs can include leading practices, guidelines, knowledge repositories, technical problem and solution discussions, working papers, and strategies. At GOC, the CoPs are the solution for the Society s challenge to integrate knowledge and practice across regions, professional boundaries, cultures and agencies. Mission GOC is fostering a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to gynecological cancer care through the establishment of Communities of Practice (CoP). By adopting this collaborative approach, the pervasive approach of working in silos was minimized and systematic engagement of its membership was improved. Introduced in 2007, multidisciplinary GOC CoPs have fostered greater collaboration, knowledge sharing and spread of innovation in the most pressing areas of gynecologic oncology. Through the implementation of the Communities of Practice approach; the Society is reinventing itself as a more effective, relevant and financially viable platform for change and engagement.

THE GOC COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE CoP Eligibility CoP leader must be a GOC member. CoP should have a specific issue or audience identified. CoP should have a preliminary plan developed including a draft timeline for implementation. CoP should identify a legacy product for sharing CoP output with field (e.g., white paper, presentation, conference sessions, peer-reviewed publication, etc.). The benefits of becoming/being a CoP Member Continue learning and developing professionally Access expertise Improve communication with peers Increase productivity and quality of work Network to keep current in the field Develop a sense of professional identity Enhance professional reputation Free access to full functionality of GOC Workplace, the Society s online learning platform.

THE GOC COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE Methodology Develop a Communities of Practice platform for each working group. Distribution of pre-read and/or pre-work. Create community for sharing. Small groups and breakouts with feedback. Project summaries and priorities. Identify the issue (problem), re-format into a gap, define the boundaries of a solution, identify discrete projects, and look for implementation strategies. Deconstruct problems, reconstruct solutions. Deliverables two specific ideas or projects that are actionable and doable. Define infrastructure resources.

THE GOC COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE Participants 1. Must be prepared to share personal clinical data and activities. 2. Highly dependent on participation for success. 3. Discussion should be focused on innovative solutions that are both doable and implementable and leverage the potential of the resources within the group. Innovate resourcefully. 4. Process identify key gaps relative to our goals and be re-formatted into gaps a. Knowledge b. Process c. Practice d. Technique e. Research methodology/infrastructure 5. Participants need to frame solutions in terms of phases and levels of output. 6. Participants commit to creating a trusting environment it s about the solutions: no question or need is too simple. 7. The process is based on an evolution not revolution. 8. Participants commit to participate in any pre-work for sharing and to address any pre-read materials.
