3 A GRAND CHEFS EVENT The third annual Celebrate Every Breath Gala promises to be an elegant evening of interactive dining, aromatic wines and collaboration among the most talented chefs in D.C. all for an incredible cause: to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis. The Washington, D.C. area s finest chefs will showcase their culinary creativity in an intimate and exclusive setting. Guests surrounding Culinary Spotlight Tables will be entertained by a collaboration of chefs as they come together to create a three-course unforgettable feast. This sensory adventure begins with an Opening Reception featuring specialty libations, exquisite hors d oeuvres, and a silent auction. Thanks to our remarkable community of dedicated friends and supporters, we continue to make progress in our quest to end CF and help those with the disease live better lives today. Campbell, III, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer Cystic Fibrosis Foundation ABOUT CYSTIC FIBROSIS Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a rare, genetic, lifethreatening disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria, leading to infections, extensive lung damage and, eventually, respiratory failure. Some say it feels like breathing through a straw. OUR MISSION The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatments, and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. In all that we do, we are committed to fulfilling this mission.

5 WHY SUPPORT THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION? The Foundation is adding tomorrows. In 1955, when the Foundation was founded, children with CF rarely lived long enough to attend elementary school. Today, the median predicted age of survival is more than 40 and people with CF are achieving milestones like attending college, getting married and having children goals that used to seem impossible. This is due in large part to the work of the Foundation and the amazing CF community. We helped discover the gene that causes CF, created a state-of-the-art model for CF care and have funded groundbreaking research. Despite tremendous progress, we are not yet done. We have extended life spans considerably, but many people with CF still die at a young age, even as children. Our story will not be finished until we have achieved normal life spans and have a cure for 100% of people with CF. We need your support now as much as ever before to reach that goal.

Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation s attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to an indoor Foundationsponsored event at a specific time. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has unrestricted financial reserves of about 12 times its budgeted annual expenses, following a one-time royalty sale in These funds, along with the public s continuing support, are needed to help accelerate our efforts to pursue a lifelong cure for this fatal disease, develop life-saving new therapies and help all people with CF live full, productive lives.
