We had a great Thanksgiving Dinner at the Post. BIG Thank You goes out to those who made it happen. All the Family was involved SAL, Auxiliary and Legion: for all the cooking and cleanup: Angie and Jeff Bailey, Manny and Sheryl Quintana, Garnett and Janis Dunken, Bob Kollar. Baily s and Quintana s also did Friday night eats that week. If I missed anyone please forgive me. After the prayer by Chaplain Kollar there were 53 guests in the Club. During the meal several more came in. The food was great and there was plenty for everyone, no one left hungry. Here are some of the volunteers who stepped up during the year to help keep the doors open, the Legion Family: all those mentioned above who made Thanksgiving happen and the Lubera s, Jim F, Don H, Chris B, the McClure s, the Hinson s, Stacie and several more (some don t want to be mentioned). I also thank the members and guests who attend our functions, Club 77 and Casino 77 on a regular basis. December brings two big functions: The Post 77 Christmas Party on Saturday December 15 th starting about 5:00PM. Guys bring a gift for Guys and Ladies for Ladies. Try to stay under $20.00 and NO GAG Gifts please. Wear your ugly Christmas sweater or other Christmassy or Santa stuff. Bring some Pot Luck goodies. The New Years Eve Party: Monday December 31 st, Limited Edition Band starts at 8:00PM. There will be party favors and at midnight Toast Champagne and Breakfast. Cover charge is: if you buy your tickets early (before the 31 st ) $15:00 for singles and $25.00 for couples. If you pay at the door, $20.00 for singles and $30.00 for couples. Come out and bring in Post 77 wishes all the Legion Family Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a Happy, Safe New Year. Joe Frey, Post 77 Commander Auxiliary greetings A.L.A. members: Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. The Post served a wonderful meal this year. Thanks to all that took pies and helped prepare the meal. Christmas is right around the corner and our Unit will have our annual Christmas Craft Fair, bake sale with breakfast burritos on Saturday, December 8 th at the Bingo Hall. Table rentals are $5.00 and we still have some available. Our crafters will be hard at work finishing up the items for the Units table. The Auxiliary Christmas party will be December 15 th at the Bingo Hall. Ya ll come out and please bring a exchange gift and your favorite Holliday goodies. We open gifts and eat at 2:00PM, so come early and visit. The Post Christmas Party will be later the same day at 5:00PM, Club 77. 1

2 Remember the people in your community and family tell them Merry Christmas and wish all a wonderful Happy New Year. The Auxiliary still meets every Wednesday at the Bingo Hall to make quilts for our Veterans at the ABQ VA Hospital and spinal unit. So, if you want to help come by from 9AM to 3PM and we ll show you how we make 100 plus lap quilts spinal blankets and other items for our Veterans. Bingo has picked up a little and we can always use volunteers and players. So come give it a try. We start at 2:30PM after Church on Sundays. Bring a friend and or family. We all volunteer our time and donate items for raffles. These funds help support our Unit and the programs we support. We are still collecting tabs from sodas, coupons and box tops for the Schools. Once again thank you for your help and your donations. We have a lot of Hospital equipment, beds, wheelchairs, walkers, canes Etc. If you need to barrow any items, please let us know. For God and Country, Gloria Rhoads, ALA Unit 77 President reetings from the SAL: SAL Squadron #77 hopes everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. It s been awhile since we ve hit the newsletter with input. Here s a recap of things that have been going on or things coming up. The SAL scholarship recipient for the Fall Semester 2018 was Trevellion Rinestine, son of Brian and Andrea Rinestine. Trev is very deserving of the award from the academic side, but more from his involvement with our Sons of the American Legion Squadron #77. It has been a pleasure having Trev attend our meetings and participate in events of the Squadron. The slate of officers for the SAL for this year are as follows: Commander Apolonio Moe Ramirez Vice-Commander Jeff Bailey Adjutant- Bryan Rinestine Finance Office Randy Hargrove Sergeant at Arms- Tommy Filpi Chaplain Trevellion Rinestine Historian Manuel Quintana I would like to thank the officers for volunteering their time to attend our meetings. It has been a struggle to get enough officers and members to attend meetings to meet the requirement of constituting a quorum. We would like to invite all members to attend our meetings as it is important that we have enough interest to keep our Squadron going. Please come out and give us your thoughts or ideas that might assist us. Our renewal membership cards were sent out to us in July. Believe it or not, we have 105 membership that came in, but can only get 6 or 7 active members to attend a meeting, so the number of members is out there. Now we urge SAL members to get active and participate. At our last meeting, the SAL voted to donate to the Community Christmas Basket Fund. Throughout the year, we have assisted various clubs and organizations. To be able to fund scholarships, make donations, or have community events like the SAL Hamburger meal after Memorial Day, it all takes money. Our next fund-raising events will be a drawing for a large smart TV. The drawing is scheduled for around Valentine s Day. More details will be coming out or ask one of the SAL officers. 3 Club 77 Greetings from your Club: See Commander s input. For 2019 there will be no band in January. Limited edition will be playing February through June. We re working on July through December. The Club will be closed on Christmas day. On New Year s Day January 1 st, the Club will open at 3:00PM to give us time to clean up after the New Year s Party. If you wish to have a function at the Club, please let us know. We ll sit down with you and set it up. Have a Great Holiday Season. Bob Kollar & Your Club 77 Staff. Adjutant Greetings Legion Family; Wow! By the time you get this newsletter we will probably have less than 35 days for the New Year to start. We just celebrated two great days in November. Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. A great time to give Thanks to our Family, friends and our Veterans. Let s remember all our Veterans this past year. Membership is still going steady. We have close to 50 who still haven't paid their dues. Less than 35 days to get them paid. Remember your dues are paid to American Legion Post 77, not Club 77 or Bartenders. Put your dues in box as you enter the door or put in envelope and mail to PO Box 625. If mailed I will get it for sure. We have had renewals missing by not putting them in the right place. I will check the membership box on December 31, so please have them in the Box, so I can mail your membership cards as soon as possible. If you pay your dues after January 1, you will be a delinquent member and will lose club privileges. This will probably be the shortest newsletter that I have put out. Have been busy at the ranch and haven't had time to look up things to put out for information. I just want to thank Auxiliary unit 77 for a great Veteran Program and meal. Casados Post 77 Adjutant & Membership Chair ALA Unit 77 Membership Greetings Legion Family; Whishing everyone a Blessed Christmas has blown by super fast!!! Unit 77 membership so far has reached the first 4 Target Weigh In dates, that the American Legion Auxiliary Department of New Mexico membership chairman has asked us to reach. The next target Weigh date is 40% paid membership, we reached it, now we need to work on the next target date, 60% paid renewals. Paid need 196 paid members, by January 21, 2019, as of we have 133 paid ALA members, a ways to go. 63 more membership renewals. WE CAN DO IT!! Other programs we are working on are: ALA Girls State Program, we need to raise funds to send one (1) junior high school girl to the Girl State Program. We need to raise $ just for 1 delegate to attend the ALA Girls State program. It s a large amount of money we have been asked to raise, we are asking for your donation assistance, if you are interested in helping, it would be greatly appreciated. We also have our Annual Christmas Craft coming up soon, Saturday December 8, Along with the different vendors, we will have a bake sale, and serve breakfast burritos. If you are interested in being a craft vendor, the tables are only $5.00 each. Contact Gloria Rhoads at or try calling the Bingo Hall on Wednesdays and ask for Gloria. 3

4 The Unit 77 annual Veterans Dinner and Program was another success, thank you to all that attended our program. We always have fun putting it together. Thank you to all that helped with the program. MEMBERSHIP REMINDER: If you have not renewed your yearly membership, and you do not have a 2019 membership card and you have a 2018 membership card, your membership will expire on January 1, Don t delay; get your renewal paid now. DON T LET YOURSELF BECOME DELIQUIENT. Auxiliary Dues are $35.00 and Junior members (18 and under) is $5.00. I can always be contacted at if you have any questions. World War I ended on the 11 th month on the 11th day on the 11th hour. Today I saw a man selling poppies stop a lady and asked if he could re-position her poppy. While doing so he told that lady she should wear the poppy on their right side; the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11 o'clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War I formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldn't understand this and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them. We must remember those from our current wars too! For those that do not know, the eleventh day of the eleventh month is Veterans Day! I copied this from someone else. Please do the same to pass this knowledge on to those who don't know the meaning and who care enough to know. Membership Dues: It does not matter what month you joined in, you MUST renew your dues between 1 October and 31 December or you become delinquent and must Renew. If you do not have a current membership card on 1 January, all of your Legion benefits terminate (i.e. Free Insurance, Prescription discounts or Post functions etc.). Early Bird Memberships are available from 1 July to 30 September. Dues are: Legion $35.00, Auxiliary $35.00, Auxiliary Jr s (under 18) $5.00 and SAL $30.00, SAL Jr s (under 21) $ Send your dues to the Post address, on the Newsletter, Attn: Membership.
