2 CHILDREN S ORAL HEALTH INITIATIVE A new COHI year begins September/ October 6, 2016 If your child participated in COHI last year we will be contacting you soon to update your child s medical history so that screening and fluoride varnish applications can begin. If you or your child are new to the community or COHI please complete an authorization form to enroll your child in COHI. Families with children from 0-7 years of age receive screening, oral health education, fluoride varnish applications, sealants and temporary fillings as well as supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss to keep teeth healthy. We also provide screening and education to women during pregnancy. Your COHI team this year is: Melanie Braker - Dental Therapist Tara Tatoosh - COHI Aide Your COHI Aide has been trained to work independently in your community. He or she can provide COHI services such as fluoride varnish applications to children s teeth, organize and participate in community events, provide oral health information and work with the Dental Therapist and/or Dental Hygienist when they are in the community. 4 Community Notice Friday, October 14th, 2016 What: FACILIATION TRAINING with Jessie Hemphill Purpose: Learn some practical simple skills and tools for working with groups & hosting discussions, no matter how much (or little) experience you have! Why you should register for the training? -you would like to volunteer or work with small or large groups of people, -learn how to run a successful meeting -learn neutrality techniques and how to deal with challenging situations -you want to learn creative tools, such as, opening and closing meetings, use circle base methods, world cafe, open space technology, collective mind-mapping, collective story harvest, proaction café, etc. -GREAT skills training opportunity to put on your Resume/ CV Who is Jessie Hemphill? She is from Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw and Port Hardy. She is a woman with European and 'Nakwaxda'xw lineage, but also Ligwitlda'xw and Metis.
