A highlight for me (as always) was watching the students in their relay races in the afternoon and the line of parents cheering them on. Thank you Linda for being our resident photographer. NEWSLETTER 8 18 th March, 2016 IMPORTANT DATES MARCH 21 st Library/Science AGM School Council 23 rd Purple Day for Epilepsy First Aid Training kids Collect Hot Cross Bun after 2 24 th Last Day of Term 1 students finish at 2.30 pm on this day APRIL 10 th Working Bee last Sunday of the holidays 11 th First Day of Term 2 Happy birthday to the following student/s that celebrated their birthdays this week: Eamon Mullins WORKING BEE We are hoping to hold a working Bee on the last Sunday of the school holidays (10 th April) from 9 am. We will concentrate on the Library and multipurpose room as well as the school grounds and kitchen. If you are available your help would be much appreciated. Jeremy will run a BBQ at 11:30 am if we have a number of volunteers. A flier for this day will be sent home next week with actions we hope to achieve. Affirmations Board For the entire first term we have concentrated on the value of CARE within the school. Care at Oxley Primary School is basically broken up into the following behaviours that we expect to see both in the classroom as well as in the yard. Our affirmation board this term has been filled with a number of examples of students showing care and those nominations are as follows: Sidney for taking care of Jacob, The 4 6 students for caring for me while I was on crutches Laura, Xavier for helping Laura so she didn t have to get up Addisyn, Lucy Rockett who saw that Alexandra was stuck on the slide so she helped her back to the top and made sure that she was ok - Jaye I saw Greta help Alice, Jacob Ellis for being a caring student and encouraging Andrew during a cricket game Mr Campbell, Sienna, Zoe and Alannah who picked up rubbish that the dog knocked over when they were not even asked too Layla, The year 6 s forgot to bring scissors to cut the icy poles and Mikala Hackett ran inside and grabbed some and helped cut everyone s Andrea, Cooper Vincent for being a caring friend when someone looks lost in the yard, The captains decided on the following student to win the Oxley Pantry s monthly award for showing care on a daily basis. Jasmine Uebergang who has been an extremely caring friend to Alexandra and has helped her settle into Oxley Primary School in such a terrific manner. 3 Well done to all those students nominated and a huge thank you to everyone who nominated someone. Purple Day Next Wednesday will be our Purple Day, Ms Tuccitto has organised a separate flier about this day and why we are raising funds. School Council and AGM A quick reminder that we have our Annual General Meeting and first School Council meeting, next Monday. We are still looking for 2 parent representatives to join. recycled paper, making tags for our lights and air con s reminding people to switch off and discussing some recycled art works for the school grounds. This Saturday is Earth Hour and we ask you and your families to take part by switching off electricity between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm to help our environment. If you are able maybe make it a bit longer and include the kids turn the telly off from 7.00 pm and maybe enjoy a board game or two! Interview with a Foundation student and a Year 6 student will be back in next week s newsletter. Pedal for Positivity - Ride for Rural Minds Students will be involved in a positive initiative for raising awareness of rural child mental health and developing resilience along with students from the Ovens Learning Community (Carraragarmungee, Everton, Glenrowan, Milawa, Oxley, Winton & Whorouly). OPS students will ride from Oxley PS to Milawa Anglican Church along the Rail Trail and back to Oxley PS on Friday 22 nd April. Parents and friends are more than welcome and encouraged to take place in this ride/walk. More details will be sent home as a separate attachment on Monday. Jeremy Campbell - Principal Oxley Primary School is committed to Nurturing confident, lifelong learners, in a friendly rural community. OXLEY GREEN THUMBS As many of you will be aware we were lucky enough to receive a grant from the Rural City of Wangaratta to develop our Oxley Little Green Thumbs Group. I would like to say a huge thank you to Pam Bertalli for getting this program happening and all the students for showing enthusiasm in starting some of our projects. So far we are making paper bricks that will be available for purchase out of GREEN THUMB OF THE WEEK ALEX PHILPOTT For shredding recycled paper at home to make paper bricks. PFA NEWS Hot Cross Buns I have placed the order and buns will be delivered to OPS on Wednesday. At this stage we do not have any volunteers to bag up the orders. If you are available on Wednesday for around 1 hour your help would be greatly appreciated. Buns can be collected after 2 pm on this day. Easter Raffle Thank you for all the generous donations.
