1 Welcome to Noaks Ark Syd s newsletter July August-The Tuesdaygroup meets up for the first time after the summer break to plan autumn s activities. New members are welcome to join. We start off with a pizza night at Noaks Ark Syd s premises. We will get together the last Tuesday of every month. This first time we will brainstorm about what we would like to do when we meet, for example invite a guest-lecture who specializes in women and HIV or field trips. Non-holiday Wednesdays between 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Coffee/tea on us while you wait your turn. If you cannot make it during Drop-in you can book an appointment by calling the reception at: Welcome! What kind of group is the Tuesday group? It s a safe group, like a social place for people living with HIV where they cook and eat and go on excursions together. Sometimes they have a guest lecturer, like in September a guest is coming all the way from San Francisco to inform about a project where he uses acupuncture for people living with HIV. Newly employed at Noaks Ark Syd Stephen is employed as a project economist and administrator in the Project Diaspora and as an administrator in our basic programme. Baha is our new project leader of the Project Nadhir.

2 The Project Diaspora was at location at a Thai festival in Lindome the 30th of June and 1st of July. Lots of color, dancing and lovely fragrances from the Thai kitchen. The Diaspora staff distributed and informed about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). There was a huge interest among the visitors. Diaspora also sponsored a football tournament that was going on during the festival, with water and sodas. Even in a grey and dull weather the Project Diaspora was settled in Malmö Folkets Park to inform about SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights). We distributed information kits and talked with eager visitors. Even here we witnessed lots of color, dancing and food.

3 The month ended with sunshine, lovely African music and tasty food from all corners of Africa in Malmö Folkets Park this wonderful day 22 July. The Project Diaspora was on location to inform about SRHR. Curious visitors asked questions and gladly received the information-kit we brought with us. The Project sponsored KISWA (Kenyan s in Skåne Welfare Association) with a tent and a table where they prepared yummie Kenyan dishes. 4 Lots of different tables with fantastic handmade creations for sale, from jewelry, to culture native clothes for men, women and children. To conclude, the African culture day was bigger and better this year!

5 Who are the people on the Noaks Ark Syd s Board? In July s newsletter we re introducing Per and Hilda. 1. Who is Per? Answer: Per is a man from Värmland and the Gothenburg area. He s fond of animals and nature and likes dogs and horses a lot. 2. What kind of background do you have? (education, work experience etc.) Answer: University. 3. Do you have any hobbies? Answer: He often takes a trip to pick mushrooms in different forests. Literature is close to his heart as well as classical music, he loves cooking and often shares his creations from the kitchen with us at Noaks Ark Syd, which we so appreciate. 4. What makes you laugh? Answer: Ohh at hilarious situations. I have a great sense of humor and often laugh at animals behaviors. 5. What do you like and don t like? Answer: I like: goodness, empathy, humbleness, generosity, kindness, humor true friends. I dislike: cruelty, revenge, fakeness, obsequiousness and lack of self-awareness. 6. What are you going to do this summer? Answer: I m going to a dog show for Scottish Terriers in Gothenburg. I think there will be some time to pick a little mushrooms as well. 7. How long have you been a member of the Board and what is your position? Answer: I was elected to sit in Noaks Ark Syd s Board in April 2017.

6 1. Who s Hilda? Answer: I m a person that s very calm. I appreciate honesty, I m a good listener and believe in safe structures as a whole both in my privacy and professionally. 2. What kind of background do you have? (education, work experience etc.) Answer: I m a public health scientists, I m also a language nerd and have studied lots of languages. I work with newcomers since three years back. I also study migration studies at Malmö University. It s a good combination since I like theory based reality. Before I started working with newcomers I held a course for long-term unemployed youth s at the college I work at. 3. Do you have any hobbies? Answer: Yepp, I sing in a choir and participate in the activities we have at the Sofielunds cohousing, where I live. I often drink lots of coffee, I travel a lot and I try to learn Arabic. Noaks Ark is in a way a hobby, I love going in deep trying to get an overview over organizations and put in structures where needed. 4. What makes you laugh? Answer: People with lots of selfdistance, friends and colleagues. 5. What do you like and don t like? Answer: I like a lot of things! Music, food, pastries, dancing and my friends and all that stuff. I think it takes a whole lot of energy to dislike things but one thing is for sure right now is the political situation in Sweden/EU and empty values that are not being filled with content. 6. What are you going to do this summer? Answer: I just got back from Greece and Lebanon and this last week of my vacation I want to put focus on Noaks Ark and prepare for next term that starts upcoming week. 7. How long have you been a member of the Board and what is your position? Answer: I m a Board member since April 2017.

7 Letter from Cissi Hey hey everybody! So non-infectious Hiv, sounds real good right? Non-infectious with reservation to the exception, everybody who don t know about their HIV status, I feel it s those people who are the dangerous ones today. They are the ones that spread HIV without knowing it themselves and that s not only dangerous for the people they are intimate with but it s dangerous for themselves too. I mean, if you don t test yourself you will not know if you have HIV which could mean the virus could multiply itself and weaken your immune system and make you sick. Those people that ignore to get tested will get to the hospital in such bad shape with very low blood counts. Thank goodness there are great HIV medicine (ART) today that improves the immune system very fast in most cases and also stops the virus to continue multiplying instead it decreases it to become undetectable and you feel slowly better again but the road to recovery could be so difficult for many but it all depends on how long you have had HIV without knowing it. When all is settled living with HIV becomes like living with any other chronic disease, you pop a pill or two and you can live a full life till you are old and grey. Wonderful, imagine how far they have come, from popping 40 pills a day in the 90 s till one or two in 2017, all I can say is WOW. 8 Sven Olov Orback We were many who in a sunny and warm Helsingborg came to say farewell to Sven Olov Orback the 17 th of July. Sven Olov is missed by many and our hearts and thoughts goes out to his husband Bertil Falkenström, family and many friends. We also take this opportunity to thank him for the fantastic contribution he has done at Noaks Ark Syd over the years. We appreciate You Sven Olov. Gone way too soon.
