Dear Members, As I complete my two-year term as chapter president, I would like to thank the officers and members of the Executive Committee for all their help and support. I also want to thank the many members who volunteered their time and talent to keep our chapter active. It was an honor to serve Mifflin County Chapter. I ask that you continue to support the chapter as we welcome our president, David McCachren. Wishing you and your family a Blessed Holiday Season. Right, Mary Barr was our bingo caller. September Meeting Greg Devecchis entertained us with his accordion playing. Nancy Ressler was awarded the John J. Dillon Award in recognition of her dedicated service to PASR at both the state and local levels. She is shown, above right, with Dave McCachren. 2

3 December, January, February, 2017/18 The MCC/PASR NEWSLETTER At the PASR State Convention, president elect, Dave McCachren, received a certificate in recognition of our chapter s 50th birthday this year. Report from the Book Sale Again the Mifflin County School Retirees successfully managed the semi-annual September book sale at the public library. Final count was $ which will be used to help with its limited budget. Throughout the year we also provide books to be sold at the main library. From January to September of this year the library has collected $1500. We are grateful for the many of our members who help sort books, set up the sales room, stock the tables, and collect money during the sale and finally help with the cleanup. We are counting on your support for the spring book sale to be held April 25-29, Remember books and the materials may be donated throughout the year. Judy Bryant, Darla Wheeler, and Sharon Armstrong help organize some of the books during the book sale. 3

Our volunteers worked in the United Way office and the Embassy Theater. RECREO News A reminder: if you are signed up for December 12 trip, you need to be at the library by 7:45 AM. Also next year the policy is you will pay for the trip when you sign up. If you can t go you will have to find your own replacement. Harshbarger s Scholarship The fundraiser at Harshbarger s Sub & Malt on October 24 raised $ for our scholarship fund. History of Our Chapter Included in this newsletter is a history of our Charpter. I found it very interesting reading but was told to cut if it was too long. I didn t want to do that, hence the extra page. Enjoy the history. A Card Needed? It is supposed to be COLA relief for pre-act 9 retirees. Two groups who would not be eligible for this COLA are anyone who got the 2.5 percent multiplier, and anyone who took a lump-sum withdrawal when they retired (which is the majority of retirees). Even if it has a chance to pass, it will benefit very few of the most needy. Both PASR and PSEA-Retired are working to get amendments that will make this bill more inclusive. It is so important that you hand them in because I think the community needs to know how much we give back. It always amazes me, the amount of time that is donated to various organizations, projects and in helping people. The hours that you will need to count go from January 1, 2017 to December 31, Since I will need these hours by December 15, you can just estimate anything you might do from the time you hand in your paper.
