2 Catalog and Registration Information The School of Saints Faith Hope and Charity Bulldog Summer Camp 2014 Registration Information Dear Parents, Thank you for your interest in our first Bulldog Summer Camp Program. Our Bulldog Camp offers your child an opportunity to participate in structured activities, refresh or enrich academic skills, keep fit or pursue an area in the arts. The flexible schedule allows them to participate in other events in the local area as well. Please consider this option for your child by supporting our program. The program will run for 4 weeks beginning on June 23 rd and ending on July 18 th, and include opportunities for students in grades SK through 8. Classes will run daily for one hour periods with an 8:30, 9:30 or 10:30 start time and run for 1 to 4 weeks depending on the content. Described on the following pages are the classes being offered to students for this summer s camp sessions. Registration can be completed using the form at the back of the catalog. This form can be photocopied if needed. When reviewing class descriptions, please keep in mind that the grade level references are for the grade your child will have completed at the end of this school year (e.g. a 1 st grade student this year will enroll in 1 st grade summer offerings). Registration will be handled through the school s main office. Please submit your form and deposit check of $100 to FHC School no later than Wednesday, March 26 th. Registration will not be considered complete until the office has received a deposit check. If you have questions, please contact Jan or Marissa, in the office or fhccamp@faithhopeschool.org You will receive a confirmation of your child s enrollment by April 11, Please note enrollment numbers may dictate whether a class can be held. In the event that a class has to be cancelled due to lack of enrollment, you will be provided with other options at the same time. We look forward to seeing you this summer! 3 COURSE LISTING 8:30-9:30 AM ACADEMIC Little Scientists Course # 830A1 Cost: $150 Grades K-1 3 week course June 30-July 18 (no class week of 6/23/14) Put on your lab coat and get ready to explore! This course will involve living and non-living things and explore nature. The class will learn through experiments and discovery. Boys Book Club Course # 830A2 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July 3 Monsters, Slime and all things BOY, join this 2 week summer book club just for boys. We will be reading, discussing and doing fun projects with books geared specifically to the interests of boys. Adventures in Robotics-Lego Mindstorms Course # 830A3 Cost: $50 Grades week course July 14 July 18 Imagine it, build it, and make it go! Powered by the brand new LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Base Set and Software, your team will explore the exciting world of robotics! Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system, a powerful microcomputer brick, and intuitive drag-and-drop programming software, this adventure will have you and your team creating cool robots on your first day. Math Basic Skills Review Course # 830A4 Cost: $200 Grades week course June 23 July 18 This will cover all the basic skills that are taught in 4th and 5th grade, fractions, decimals, and simple equations. Brush up on your skills and have fun with math. Reading Refresher Course # 830A5 Cost: $200 Grade K-1, 2-3, week course June 23 July 18 Practice and improve your reading skills with various games and activities.
4 HEALTH/FITNESS Fun & Games Course # 830F1 Cost: $100 Grades K-2 2 week course June 23 July 18 Join your friends in playing games this summer. Activities will include a variety of strategy and team building games. Beginning Basketball Course # 830F2 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July 18 Work on fundamentals and learn new skills to help in the next level of basketball. Scrimmages, practice drills and games will be included. CREATIVITY/ART Oh What A Mess! Course # 830C1 Cost: $ 50 Grades K-1 1 week course June 23 June 27 Students will explore the benefits of messy play using a mix of cross-curricular experiences, focusing on multiple senses. This hands-on and fun experience will inspire imagination and creativity. Knitting- 2 weeks Course # 830C2 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July 3 Knitting- Knit one and purl, two! Join Mrs. Bode to find out why this is a relaxing and practical hobby. Beginners will learn to cast on stitches and how to knit, and advanced knitters will learn the purl stitch. Work on making consistent stitches and then progress to creating a doll blanket, neck warmer or scarf. Beginning Band Course # 830C3 Cost: $150 Grades week course June 23 July 18 (no class week of 7/7/14) This class is for students that have begun an instrument in the school year or those with no prior experience. Daily one on one and group instruction in learning to play band instruments including Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Flute, Trombone, Trumpet and Percussion. Movie Making Course # 830C4 Cost: $200 Grades week course June 23 July 18 Create your own movies! We will learn the basic steps of developing a story from a basic plot all the way through the storyboarding and adding the dialogue. Using a green screen we will focus on the actual film and try our hand at editing. Finished products will be shared with the group!
5 COURSE LISTING 9:30-10:30 ACADEMIC Girls Book Club Course # 930A1 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July 3 Sugar and spice and all things nice, join this 2 week summer book club just for girls. We will be reading, discussing and doing fun projects with books geared specifically to the interests of girls. Introduction to Programming with Scratch Course # 930A2 Cost: $ 50 Grades week course July 14 July 18 Ease into object-oriented programming concepts with Scratch (a project of the MIT Media Lab), creating stories and interactive adventures with stackable code blocks. Your next stop will be an introduction to Java, one of the most powerful languages used for both internet apps and software programs. Complete fun mini-challenges throughout the week, and get a taste for real-world programming. Middle School Math Review Course # 930A3 Cost: $200 Grades week course June 23 July 18 This will cover material that is taught in 6th-8th grade, so covering pre-algebra and algebra concepts. Exploring Poetry Course # 930A4 Cost: $200 Grades week course June 23 July 18 Explore the many different forms of poetry and write your own poems that you'll be proud to share with family and friends. You'll learn about famous poems and poets, rhythm and rhymes, cinquains and couplets, stanzas and styles...but most of all, you'll learn that poetry is fun! This course will conclude with an entertaining "poetry slam. Boys Book Club Course # 930A5 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July 3 If you are interested in sports, history, and time travel, this is the place for you. We will read and discuss Dan Gutman s book, Babe and Me and learn some fun facts about history too.
6 Refresher Math Course # 930A6 Cost: $200 Grades K-1, week course June 23 July 18 Participants will practice and improve their math skills with games and activities. HEALTH/FITNESS Beginners Volleyball Course # 930F1 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July 3 Participants will learn new drills, focus on individual skill and team-building activities, all while having fun and learning how to play the game of volleyball. Creative Writing and Art Course # 930C3 Cost: $200 Grades K-3 2 week course [2 hours] June 23 July 3 Get inspired this summer and brush up on writing skills at the same time! In this course, we will write poetry and other short pieces of writing. Students will create fun and different hands-on art projects to pair with each writing piece. All levels of writers and artists are welcome and will be challenged to create their own unique masterpieces! This course will run from 9:30 until 11:30. Use your creativity to add green screen/chroma key, develop your own characters and create the illusion of motion. At the end their will be a screening of the final movie products HEALTH/FITNESS Intermediate Volleyball Course # 1030F1 Cost: $100 Grades week course June 23 July3 Participants will improve and focus on individual skill and team-building activities, all while having fun and continuing to learn new skills and how to play the game of volleyball. Team Sports Course # 1030F2 Cost: $150 Grades week course June 30 July 18 Introduction to team sports, focusing on good sportsmanship and working together. Go team!
