2 Dr. Roy Kirkpatrick, local physician and surgeon, occasionally suspends his practice in Huntsville to help patients in need around the world. Last Spring he travelled to Hangu, a town in northwest Pakistan, 100 km east of the Afghanistan border for a one month stint with DOCTORS WITH- OUT BORDERS. He will share with us his fascinating adventures and many cultural and medical challenges that he encountered. Not a stranger to providing medical care to foreign lands, he spent two years at the beginning of his career in Papua, New Guinea and travelled to Haiti after its devastating earthquake in We are fortunate indeed to have this dedicated professional speak at our meeting. FRAUD For those of you who missed last month s meeting, our speaker, Constable Jordan Lacroix, was absolutely fascinating to listen to. I m sure that many jaws dropped as he related the scams that were being perpetrated right here in our own community. Although his subject was profusely serious, he punctuated it with humour and wit and gave us all a new perspective on a very serious subject.. 3 April Guest Speaker BOB HUTCHESON We re so delighted to have our own PROBUS member here in April. Bob will have just returned from the ski hills of Montana and will absolutely be ready to enthrall us with his wonderful stories of Huntsville. In his own words he said all you need to say is, I have lived here all of my life, and I have some fun memories of the people who saw the beginnings of Huntsville. I loved Bob s last talk to us and can t wait for this one! 3 Three of our members were featured on February 11 on the on-line news site Huntsville Doppler. Ken Raven, Peter Wood and Ray Jarvis (not in photo) along with some of Huntsville s old skiers at Hidden Valley were showcased, and the story is hilarious. Check it out!

4 March is National PROBUS Month We thought you might enjoy knowing a little more about PROBUS.. Retirement can come too early for many people who want and are able to remain active. PROBUS clubs are organizations for men and women who have retired from their profession or business and want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Each PROBUS club is sponsored by a Rotary club and meets at least once a month for fellowship and to hear guest speakers. Today, there are over 300,000 members in approximately 4,000 PROBUS clubs worldwide. The PROBUS club of Huntsville was started in 2011 with 40 charter members sponsored by the Huntsville Rotary Club. By 2003 membership had reached capacity so the club sponsored a second club named the PROBUS club of Muskoka North. In 2013, both clubs were at or near capacity, so a third club named PROBUS club of Muskoka Lakes was formed. All three clubs are now running full ranges of activities for all interests. A very good example of our 3 club participation was our ski day at Mount Saint Louis. 11 skiers enjoyed so much fun with great snow and even a little sunshine, followed by happy hour in Orillia. This is one event that we feel will entice more skiers in the future. Our club was well represented with the Caswells, the Ravens and the Dirks. Ski Day at MSL 4

There are 191 members in the Probus Club of Huntsville, with a cap of 200. This is a good time to invite friends to join and enjoy all of the activities Probus has to offer! There were 72 members at the February 2016 meeting. Please remember to wear your name badge at Probus events, especially at our monthly meetings. This makes greeting other members easy. New Probus members have a red dot on their nametags. Please take a few moments to introduce yourself to them during the coffee break, welcome them to our club, and encourage them to join the Events and Interest Groups. Ken and Barb will be hosting at their Huntsville Condo Dairy Lane, Suite 101. Our theme will be "WATER!". As water covers over 70% of the earth's surface, we should have no difficulty finding interesting subject matter! So let's look for water in whatever form and in whatever shape and lighting condition we may find it. And be sure to have a look in your "photo archives" for favorite water scenes from the past!
