8 Membership Renewal We are now taking renewals for year 1st May 2018 to 30th April, Cost 12 (See next slide) unless you are a full member of another U3A then it is 8:50. If you have any alteration to your Gift Aid status, please contact Margot Gale at margot.gale@hotmail.co.uk or inform her by post or at the open meeting.

9 Membership Renewal If you can t get to an Open Meeting, you can pay by post. 10 No Charges for Refreshments We are pleased to say that, after further advice from HMRC, we will not need to introduce a charge for refreshments as had been anticipated.

If you have a reason why you can t get to Group meetings but still wish to be a member. Four nonnotified absences in a row will result in your name being removed from that group and the place open to someone else.

23 Hodsock Priory Wednesday 9 May 2018 Visit Hodsock Priory, near Blyth for a guided tour of the House followed by light luncheon and the opportunity to see the bluebells in flower. Cost p per person. This includes coach fare, refreshments on arrival, tour of House and light luncheon. Payment is due.

24 Norfolk and Lavender Fields 19 June June 2018 Day one: Leaving Beeston, heading for Baytree for elevenses then on to Castle Acre (English Heritage) plus boat trip on Wroxham Broad. On to Caley Hall for evening meal and overnight stay. Day two: Visit Norwich. Overnight stay at Caley Hall plus evening meal. Day three: Visit Hunstanton and then on to Norfolk Lavender Fields. Travel to Beeston. Cost: Staying at the Caley Hall Hotel, Old Hunstanton, per person, single room supplement per person. Cost does NOT include Wroxham boat trip or entrance to Castle Acre.

29 Bowls Group Bowl sessions are arranged for all Fridays at 10.30am lasting 2 hours - all members welcome. Numbers are gradually increasing and we had 8 persons attending which meant we had 2 lanes open. However, the other two weekly roll-up sessions are Mondays 12.30pm 2.30pm, and Thursdays 2.30pm 4.30pm. U3A bowlers were invited to just turn up to these sessions, and play with their U3A friends.

34 Jazz Appreciation Group The new Jazz Appreciation Group will meet every 2nd Wednesday of the Month starting at 2pm at Beeston Methodist Church, Chilwell Road, Beeston, in the Wesley Room. 39 Searching Antiques Group Our group has been running now for over 9 months and have covered a wide range of antiques. We would like a few more members to join us as we are still a very small group. You don t need to know anything about antiques, so come along as you could pick up tips on what to look out and avoid etc. If you do have something old and you re not sure what it is, just bring it along to one of the meetings. None of us are experts but between us, we try to come up with some answers. Jill has a very wide knowledge of Victorian Dolls and bought in some very rare ones including a Nora Wellings African doll with original glass eyes & original shell necklace plus raffia skirt c Jim is very knowledgeable on Ceramics & Porcelain and has bought in a wide range of items to the group. ranging from oriental to Pinder and Bourne plates and tankards. We also have a fair amount of knowledge on silver items. Our meetings are held in the Wesley Room on 3rd Monday each month at 12 Noon If anyone is interested in joining, please bazmar@hotmail.co.uk or just come along on the day.

45 Astronomy Group We intend that the Astronomy Group will appeal to both beginners who would like to know more about the night sky, and those who wish to have a more detailed knowledge of astronomy. Everyone who has an interest in astronomy will be very welcome. The scope of the group includes: - exploring and understanding the night sky, including recognising constellations, stars, and galaxies throughout the night and the year - an understanding of the planets, their position and motion across the sky - the moon, its features - astronomical events, including eclipses - an understanding of the universe beyond our Milky Way Galaxy

46 Understanding the Landscape Anyone with an interest in the landscape and its features will be most welcome. No prior knowledge will be expected. The scope includes: recognising and understanding the different landscape features, e.g. rock structures, rivers and streams, hills, soil types, and how they arose in geological history Please contact

48 Wine Appreciation Group Three Beeston U3A has two successful Wine Groups, a third is now being established. Wine tasting is a highly individual and subjective activity and one of the functions of the group is to enable members to discuss their personal perception of various wines. Each tasting will follow a theme and will offer the opportunity to taste wines beyond those commonly available in supermarkets. Suggestions for themes will be welcome from group members. The initial meeting of the Wine Appreciation Group Three will take place on Thursday 19th April at the White Lion 24 Middle Street Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1FX.
