7 Next Month s Meeting Thursday 2 March 2017 Groups Fair 10.00am until 12noon An opportunity for members and friends or family to come along and find out more about the many and varied Interest Groups on offer and meet Group Leaders and Committee Members.
8 Membership Renewal Our new membership year begins on 1st May 2017 and ends on 30 th April As the membership now stands at over 710 people, to renew all these members at the April/May meeting would be a formidable task hence we are beginning to take membership renewals for those who wish to at the February meeting. As promised last year, our membership fee for U3A year will be 15 and this can be paid either by cash or cheque which should be made out to Beeston U3A. If you have any alteration to your Gift Aid status could you contact Margot Gale at margot.gale@hotmail.co.uk or inform her by post or at the open meeting.
9 Future Meetings Please Note: In future there will be no break after the notices but we will pass straight on to the speaker
10 Please let your Group Leader Know: 1. If you no longer wish to attend a Group. This will allow new members to join a Group with a waiting list. 2. If you have a reason why you can t get to Group meetings but still wish to be a member. Four nonnotified absences in a row will result in your name being removed from that group and the place open to someone else.

21 Cathedral City of Lichfield Friday 21 April 2017 Cost per person. Places of interest: Lichfield Cathedral - which houses a small permanent display of the Staffordshire Hoard - the largest Anglo- Saxon hoard of gold. Samuel Johnson's Birthplace Museum. Erasmus Darwin's House - scientist, doctor, inventor, poet, botanist and grandfather of Charles Darwin. Friday is Market Day. Plenty of places to eat and shop. A few places left on this visit - These may be booked at 2 February 2017 Open Meeting.
22 Visit to Blenheim Palace 16/17 June This includes entrance to Blenheim Palace and Gardens. Gardens were designed by Capability Brown. Overnight stay at The Holiday Inn Reading South. 23 Thursford Spectacular 15/16 November 2017 A limited number of tickets have been allocated to us for this Christmas 2017 visit. In order to secure these tickets we must have definite numbers. This involves an overnight stay at Caley Hall Hotel, Old Hunstanton. Dinner, bed and breakfast 159 per person, single room supplement. Further details as soon as we receive them. 28 Bowls Group Bowl sessions are arranged for all Fridays at 10.30am lasting 2 hours - all members welcome. Numbers are gradually increasing and we had 8 persons attending which meant we had 2 lanes open. However, the other two weekly roll-up sessions are Mondays 12.30pm 2.30pm, and Thursdays 2.30pm 4.30pm. U3A bowlers were invited to just turn up to these sessions, and play with their U3A friends.

43 U3A Group Ethos Please remember that the U3A ethos is about learning with and from its members. Once it is known how many members may be interested in joining a new group, an initial meeting will be arranged to discuss the formation of the group and way forward. Note that, if no one is willing to lead or be part of a team, the group will not take place.

46 University Contacts For some time now, Beeston U3A Committee have been trying to make contact with Nottingham University with a view to forging links between our group and the University. Steve Austin and Richard Eddleston are leading this initiative and despite sterling efforts, have had no success so far. We wondered if any of our members have any contacts within the University that they could put us in touch with to see if any progress can be made.
