1 Pleasant Hill PTA Monthly Meeting FINAL Wednesday, October 3, :02 PM -- Teacher s Lounge President s Report 1. Thank you s to Jill Gosz & Melissa Johnson for a successful membership drive and conversion to digital directory -- over 650 members and converting us to the digital directory to Ashley Gebhardt & Kim Miller for a successful fall fundraiser 2. NWSC President s meeting ESPA contract vote soon remember PTA is to remain neutral NWSC Council open chairman positions hospitality co-chair and social media chair NWSC nominating committee need volunteers Northwest Cook Region Nominating committee workshop in Mid-January. Illinois PTA IL PTA Advocacy Day will be held in Springfield on Oct All committee chairs and officers must join the PTA. I will be following up with those of you who have not yet joined and/or paid or 4 people still need to join/pay 4. Remember to use MySchoolAnywhere signups to volunteer for committees and events. Committee chairs be sure to contact interested volunteers. OFFICER REPORTS Treasurer s Report Balance 08/31/17: $ 18, Expenditures: $ 8, Disbursements: $ 1, Total Balance 09/30/17: $25, Principal s Report Welcome to the new participants Movie Night -- doubled amount of money and was executed better than the school could have conducted on their own. Congrats to the committee chairs who worked on this project -- good job Ashley and Kim!
2 We still need help with Multicultural night -- Julie needs a leader for the Chinese culture Assemblies -- two total...1) Jeff Scott will talk about perseverance (will talk in November) 2) High School Helpers -- committee chairs please contact Mr. Morris for any HS helpers to help for any PTA events/activities. He can reach out and request them -- need event information (name, date, time) and contact info. There is still a punch-list for the construction workers to work on so please keep that in mind. Construction is still finishing up MAP testing is now completed for grades 4-6. Results will go out soon If you send Mr. Morris an for him to send, please include information for parents to contact if they have any questions There is a police car during drop-off and pick-up. Mr. Morris has no authority to "ticket anyone!" The police department is in charge of making sure that they protect the village sidewalks and streets. The pedestrian crosswalk is getting busier since there have been more homes built in the area. Parents have contacted the PD for help in dealing with the crosswalk -- it is the village who makes the decision. People follow the rules when the officer is present, but of course things go back to normal when he's not. Morris is not in charge of street signage, but the PD is aware of the issues and they are working on it. Be aware of the school zone and please pass the word along that we need to be more diligent. Crosswalk on the south side of Illinois Ave is not a school zoned crosswalk with a crossing guard. Please don't become a crossing guard for the kids, have them use the crosswalk we have been designated to use! Please keep in mind that supervision does not start in the back of the school until 8:30 -- students are getting dropped off 7:45 and 8:00 with no supervision! You can not park in the recess parking spots or wait along Cedar -- only in the parking lot The PD has been ticketing parents not following the rules This came up recently -- when a parent goes on a field trip as a chaperone. Pictures taken during the field trip cannot be distributed anywhere -- only to be shared with teachers. Please do not be posting pictures on social media (in case we have a child on a "do not publish" list Halloween -- please nothing covering the face or anything religious 1. Teacher s Report
3 NONE 2nd VP Membership Report Count is at 660 members. Last year was 639. Our goal was to have one parent per each child 9 families have joined but have not paid Jill and Melissa are looking into printing a directory (ordered by class) 3 rd VP Ways and Means Report - (Fall fundraiser, Boxtops, Manna) Raffle tickets -- we had 10 prizes. Students were able to put their tickets in a box during lunch. (ASK ASHLEY FOR NUMBERS). We came in under budget for the entire event For next year -- we had a due date and received 70 late forms. Parents were calling the day of or switching movies for their kids. We need a better cut-off to help with timing and count. We doubled our goal of how much we wanted to make! Box-tops -- raffle for 10 pieces of spirit-wear. November will be gift cards for DQ. We currently have $600. Manna got bought out last week and a committee is trying to get us back in to help us purchase gift cards electronically. This will make things easier for ordering gift cards for teachers for the holidays. Blankets -- we need to find a way to sell them...perhaps a flyer for the holidays. Possibly during the Holiday Gift Shop Corresponding Secretary/Communications Report COMMITTEE REPORTS 1. Make a Difference We will be starting the 11/06. Assembly -- students will be viewing a slideshow of all the charities available for them to choose from. o Everyone can help American Red Cross and victims of Hurricane Harvey. o Kindergarten helps the veterans. o First graders help people with special needs at Clearbrook & Little City. o Second graders help the hungry at Palatine Food Pantry. o Third graders help kids who are ill at Children s Hospital. o Fourth graders help the community at Palatine Park District. o Fifth graders help the elderly at Tamarack Senior Living. o Six graders help hungry people around the world at Feed My Starving Children.
4 o Discrepancies in how much each classroom was giving. Feed My Starving Children relies on donations, so there will be a letter that goes home asking for donations instead of a bakery good or pumpkin. We are hoping to get more donations this way. Monday, 4th graders will be going to Turkey Trot for the runners bags -- will help stuff the bags Tuesday, 2nd graders will drop off the food they have collected Bracelets -- we are giving it to the American Red Cross. The bracelets are made in China and we are waiting for them to be delivered to us. We will now receive 400 free bracelets that we can sell and help collect more for the ARC 2. Reflections Reflections will hold two more workshops. o Wednesday 10/4 & Wednesday 10/11 Due date for projects is 10/16 o Students will submit to the front office o We will display students' projects in the PH hallway 10/23-11/03. o Advancing projects will be sent to NWSC by 11/12 o We need more volunteers to help run workshops and prepare the gallery display. o Please phptareflection@gmail.com 3. Bookfair Books will be arriving 10/12. Two people will be coming from Scholastic to help with the set up. The displays will be organized by book type -- picture books, graphic novels, etc. Sign-up sheet will be up soon...please sign up 4. Family Reading Night Planning for Family Reading Night is coming along. We have 6 people who have volunteered to help. Dinner plans are in the works and will be provided to the teachers at 5:30. We have 10 teachers signed up but would really love some more. I sent s to the new teachers but with the exception of Mrs. Schlup none of them have signed up. Could Mr. Morris possibly send out an asking for more teacher participation? Currently we have: Kehm, Williams, Loudermilk, Haran, Contreras, Marx, Hickey, McManis, Naumann, Schlup We would like more teacher volunteers! 5.
