1 January, 2013 Relay For Life of Norlanco Co-Chair Letter, January, 2013 We Dream Big, Hope Big and Relay Big! We want a world with more birthdays! Celebrate these survivors with us! January: Gina Kimes February Karen Markward The Relay For Life of Norlanco is less than 150 days away are you breaking in your new walking shoes? At our last rally, we met Lori Stayer, her husband Ben and daughter Holly. Lori has agreed to be our Honorary Chair and the face of our Relay. As she shared her story, there was not a dry eye in the place. Great strength and love were evident in this family s life too. Lori, thank you for your inspiration you have given us all another reason to RELAY BIG! We had media coverage for TV and print. The publicity ladies have been hard at work and can be a great help to you and your teams to announce and promote your fundraisers. The plan for our event is taking shape as the committees come together. Luminaria will be an even bigger part of our evening and we are looking for Team Captain Participation. More information will be in the newsletter and at the next rally about this wonderful opportunity to Remember. We are again asking teams to help with the The Survivor and Caregiver reception. The table decorations and favors were so appreciated last year; we are hoping you will consider adopting a table again. The Youth, Entertainment and Mission groups have preliminary plans that include great new ideas for us to stay busy. As you may know, a few changes have been made for accounting and registration for A plan is in effect for Bank Night and at the Relay. More details will be in the newsletter or if you have questions, please contact Kathy or Missy. Please visit the website for our Relay as you browse. The details are updated weekly, but we have nearly 40 teams and about 300 participants registered. The fundraising seems to be going well also, our total is above 10% of our goal. Beth McCollom has planned our 8 th Annual Survivor Fashion Show for March 23th. We hope your team will support this wonderful celebration as well!. We hope your winter is going well and we can t wait till summer! Please either Andrea alamphere1@aol.com Or Ashley a.miller1986@yahoo.com with survivor birthdays! Thank you all, Sandi and Sharon sdavidson@windsor1844.com, susashrn@aol.com

Relay Recess and Relay Field Day are new initiatives to incorporate our youth in to the American Cancer Society s mission. Relay Recess and Relay Field Day have three components: education, fundraising, and physical activity. The four components of education include sun safety, tobacco prevention, good nutrition, and physical activity. These programs provide students, teachers, and administrators the opportunity to become engaged in their community by celebrating people who have battled cancer, remembering loved ones lost, and fighting back against the disease. Because the programs are so flexible, it is different at every school and is an excellent opportunity to showcase unique qualities about your school and your community. For more information about Relay Recess or Relay Field Day, visit: or You can also contact Courtney your local American Cancer Society office at or Courtney.Shaffer@cancer.org.
5 Upcoming Relay Rally will be held on February 5 6:00pm At the Cocalico High School Cafeteria!! *Let s show our love to our Survivors in celebration of Valentine s Day bring a survivor to the rally with you! *Wear red in honor of Valentine s Day IN THE EVENT OF BAD WEATHER, please tune into WGAL or Blue Ridge Channel 11 for cancellations of monthly rallies!! If Cocalico School District cancels for the day, the meeting is cancelled also. Be a part of History! This year, select Relay events in our community are offering the unique opportunity to participate first-hand in a landmark new study, the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). The American Cancer Society will be enrolling people into CPS-3, a longterm study that will help researchers better identify the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.

10 SURVIVOR SCOOP The Survivor/Caregiver Social will be March 20 th 6:30-8:00 at the Ephrata Health Pavilion 175 Martin Avenue, Ephrata Our 2013 Honorary Survivor and Caregiver: Lori and Ben Stayer Your Team Can Help We are asking teams again this year if they would be interested in "adopting a table" at the Survivor Reception on Friday night at the Relay. Last year was the first year that we did this and the tables looked great! The Survivors and Caregivers as well as the team participants really liked it. The Survivor committee will cover the tables with white plastic and the rest is up to you. Some ideas might include decorating with flowers, maybe using the color pink if you Relay for breast cancer, centerpieces that reflect your team theme...the ideas are endless. It can be very simple...each survivor is given a ticket when they arrive and during the Survivor Lap we collect all of the things from the tables and draw the ticket numbers. Last year not all of the tables were decorated and we had OVER 100 things to give away...this is something that they look forward to each year. Hopefully we can have all of the tables decorated this year. If you put something on the tables that you want the people to take right away you may want to make to let them know that. (Like candy, etc...we do not suggest individual favors only because there would not be one available for each guest.) Thanks so much, Sue Reese Bachman's Roofing, Building & Remodeling, Inc. Phone: Fax: Help us honor our Survivors: Bring a Survivor, or more, to our February Rally so that we can honor all of them. Remember.this is why we RELAY!!!
