1 THE QUARTER INCH PRESS January 2015 W W W. N O R T H P A R I S H Q U I L T E R S. W O R D P R E S S. C O M North Parish Quilters, Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading, MA We meet on the second Wednesday of the month Sept- June. Doors open at 6pm & the meeting starts at 7pm. North Parish Quilters President s Note January 2015 Hello Quilting Friends, Oh boy! New Year s resolutions! Have you made any? Honestly, I usually try to avoid them. Somehow, life gets in the way and I don t exactly succeed in my good intentions. This year I m going to try again, but this time I ll set some achievable goals for myself. Here goes #1) I am going to eat healthier. #2) I will spend more time with family and friends. #3) I will make more time to do what I love best and that is sewing and quilting! I want to finish some of my many quilt tops into quilts. Yikes, now that I ve said the words, I ll really have to do it! Our January meeting is the perfect place for me to start. We ll meet informally among friends and work on charity projects. I m bringing my sewing machine and I will try to keep her humming during the evening. That helps with my goals 2 and 3. Depending on the goodies, I ll have to work the hardest on my goal #1! If you can t lug your machine, no worries, there is still plenty to do. Our December Holiday Tea was such fun. Your contributions made it a wonderful success. The goodies were plentiful and your donations to Well Spring House were very generous! Thanks to Pam, Joanne, Joy and all of you who participated! Friends are like quilts, they never lose their warmth. The turn of a new year is the perfect occasion to celebrate friendships and all the good things in life. Let s take the time to appreciate what last year has given us and what the new one is about to bring! We are North Parish Quilters. Antoinette Evans President 1

3 Dear North Parish Guild Members, Holiday Tea Donations The Christmas Tea Committee would like to thank you for making this Christmas Season a bit warmer for the 165 children at the DCFS Motel in Danvers. They were overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness. Thanks to you no child will have cold hands or ears! Many of you went above and beyond our request. We received bags of Arts & Crafts supplies for their new Common Room. Our only regret is that you were not there to see the smiles on the faces of the families as we brought in bag after bag of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and socks, along with art supplies. 4 Hole in the Wall Charity Update Hi Everyone, Thank you for the finished quilt donations. Now we are up to 25 completed quilts and over 50 pillowcases, with lots of tops in progress. It was MUSIC to my eyes; thank you for all the music charity blocks for December. Going to the DOGS for January! See the NPQ website for charity block directions. It is so easy: one square inside another (only two fabrics) and 12.5 unfinished. NOTE: January is CHARITY NIGHT: a productive and fun night when we get to sew or work together to accomplish some charity project. Please talk among yourselves and decide what your table would like to do. ANY charity work is GREAT! (We can only have two irons going-- lest we blow a fuse-- so please be aware before you plug one in.) Feel free to bring fabric for cutting into kits also. If you or your table wants a Hole in the Wall kit, please or CALL AHEAD to reserve any one of the following: (1) Thirty sports blocks, to be squared up and sewn into a top (5x6) (2) Thirty music blocks, to be squared up and sewn into a top (5x6) (3) "Fish Steps Quilt" --very simple blocks to be made, then sewn into a top (4) "Phat Cat Quilt" -- hand binding (5) "Bugs & Friends Quilt" -- hand binding I may have others too, so don't hesitate to ask. Charity Block Themes: January dogs, February - planes/ trucks/ cars/ etc., March - nautical, boats, fish, ocean, April - big and wild animals (No mini-raffle this month!) Many thanks, Jean Osborn, jeanco_49@comcast.net P.S. Happy Camper Challenge: Thank you to Antoinette and Colette for donating the Happy Camper fabric panels. I still have three more if you are interested. Get creative! The popular vote winner in June will receive a $50 gift certificate to Quilter's Common. The quilt must be finished and be very close to 60 x 70 inches. 4
5 Yawkey Family Inn News North Parish Quilters is happy to support The Yawkey Family Inn with the donation of quilts and pillowcases for children and families. Fabric for pillowcases is welcome 3/4 yard for the base pillowcase and strips that are either 3 or 10 by width of fabric. Any colors or prints we can match them up with other donations. Also, quilt tops can be donated and we will sandwich them and get them finished off.
