Spring 2016 Happenings From the Home Centerville Care and Rehab Center Upcoming Events: 5/9: Mother s Day Program music by Dave and Ellen Rokuseks 2:00pm 5/12: Nursing Home Week and Volunteer Celebration food and entertainment by Karaoke Krooner 5:30-7pm 5/13: Honoring our high school graduates with cake 3:00pm Sandy and Betty making fun Easter treats for afternoon coffee. From the Kitchen Doug Bryenldson We have now officially switched over to our Spring/Summer menus which means more fresh fruits, salads and other warmer weather favorites. It s a welcome change! We recently had a Taco potluck dinner accompanied by a delicious array of fresh salads and desserts brought into us by the Scandia Church and everything hit the spot! We always appreciate their being so generous with us and bringing smiles and comfort to our residents! Over the past few weeks I have been conducting Meal Satisfaction Surveys and gathering feedback from our residents on how we can improve their dining experience. I am very thankful for all their help with this project. Our aim is to provide the best food and service we possibly can! The Dietary Department is happy to welcome Jessica Tierney and Bonnie Harmon who will be filling in as needed in the kitchen. We are very happy and grateful to have both of them join our team! As always, if you d like to share a meal with your loved one here at CCRC, just let us know and we ll get everything arranged for you! We enjoy connecting family to the wonderful people we love and take care of here! Have a wonderful Spring season and we look forward to seeing you around! 6/20: Father s Day Celebration time TBD Inside this issue: Dietary 1 Social Services 2 Business Office 2 Nursing/Environmental Services Resident Testimonial 4 Activities 5 Administrator Note 6 3

Page 2 Happenings From the Home Social Services Brianne Sambo Community events: I anticipate having a bi-monthly community educational event. These events will be free of cost and hosted here at the facility. The focus is to provide education on older adults. Topics may range from health insurance & Medicare, medical conditions, etc. If you have a suggestion for a speaker, please feel free to contact me. This newsletter I would like to give a brief explanation of how important it is to have a Power of Attorney (POA). What is it? The authority to act for another person in specified or all legal or financial matters or a legal document giving power of attorney to someone. Why is it important? As your loved one ages, it may become difficult for them to make financial or medical decisions. These decisions are then referred to the POA. Who needs it? Everyone, it is even suggested to have a POA in place as a middle aged adult. Copies should be given to your attorney, physician, and designated POA. How do I set one up? You can contact your attorney s office to establish a POA or find a blank download on the Internet at Business Office Lori Hecht I had the opportunity to attend a matinee movie in Viborg with Jan Hult and some of our residents on April 15 th. I enjoyed spending time visiting with the residents during our outing, and the movie was excellent. I was very impressed with how helpful and kind the Lund Theater volunteers were! Like us on Facebook! CCRC has received several memorials and donations in 2015 and We are thankful for each and every memorial and donation that we receive. It is wonderful that our community and surrounding communities are so kind and generous to CCRC.

Page 3 Nursing Patty Knutson Spring has finally arrived and residents are ready to sit outside and enjoy the sun or plant flowers in pots. We recently had the stomach flu bug go through our facility that affected approximately 10 residents that lasted hours. We thought we were going to make it through the year without having the flu come into the building. Residents were troopers during this time and understood that they may not be having loved ones come into the building until their illness was over to protect them and their family from becoming ill. Our residents are truly wonderful, always having a smile on their face when we walk into the building or just walking down the halls. They are always willing to listen to staff or tell stories that they feel may benefit us. You know we have a great group of staff and residents when you can laugh out loud which brings a warmth to our facility. I am blessed to work for our residents and for the staff that come daily to make sure the best care is given to families loved ones. Our community and facility are two important ingredients that come together to unite us as one. You don t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing. -George Bernard Show Thank you, Patty Environmental Services-Jana Goetz I would like to welcome a new member of our team, Jessica Tierney. Jessica lives here in Centerville and she will be working in the housekeeping and laundry departments. Randy has already been busy working outside mowing the lawn and trying to stay on top of our weeds. It won t be long and we will be getting those pretty flowers to add to our nice patio. Just a reminder, we do have a deck on the south side of the building, if you re in town and would like to bring your loved one out to get some nice fresh air. We are struggling in laundry with residents clothing not being marked with his or her initials. Just a reminder, if you purchase any new clothing please make sure they get marked or come find me and we can get it marked for your loved one. We just recently purchased a new labeling system which is working wonderfully. If there is any black clothing, such as black socks, please make sure you get them to laundry so we can get those labeled with our new labeling device. If you have any questions in housekeeping, laundry or maintenance please call or come find me. Thanks, Jana Residents enjoying a potluck provided by Scandia Lutheran Church.

Page 4 Happenings From the Home Resident Testimonial What do you like about our facility? They take good care of you. Dr. Shah is great, treats you good. Do you have a special recognition for a staff member? All staff is concerned about you and want you to be well. Helpful and caring. What is your favorite activity? I enjoy the chapel services. What party/event is your favorite? I enjoyed the Valentine s Day party. I sit next to the King and Queen at meals. John Westra John Westra CCRC at the Circus! Residents enjoying a movie at Lund Theater in Viborg, SD.

Page 5 Activities Jan Hult Greetings from our Activity Department! We are patiently waiting for some nice, warm weather to finally get outside and enjoy some outdoor activities. We have enjoyed some fun outings lately such as attending The Last Living Supper put on by the Centerville Art s Council at Easter, monthly shopping trips, the circus, and several dine outs at local restaurants. Bonnie Harmon has been added to our Activity Department and she will be working some evenings. Residents are looking forward to having some evening fun! We were busy through the month of March getting ready for the Easter Egg Hunt. We filled hundreds of eggs for the big event and we had approximately 140 children receive candy and prizes. We are so appreciative to all our local businesses, community members, residents, and staff for supporting this event every year. National Nursing Home week will be here soon. Starting Monday, May 9th we will have our Mother s Day program starting at 2pm. We will have entertainment by Dave and Ellen Rokuseks and lunch to follow. Wednesday, May 11th we will honor our staff with lunch! Thursday, May 12th we would like to invite everyone to a free supper being served 5:30-7pm. We will have entertainment by the Karaoke Krooner Marlin Olson and also honoring our faithful volunteers. New Nurses Station, we love it! Hope to see you all soon and remember, the coffee pot is always on!! Time for a game of hockey in group exercises. Spring is nature s way of saying, Let t Party! The Easter Bunny came to visit the residents at our Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Robin Williams

Centerville Care and Rehab Center Centerville Care and Rehab Center 500 Vermillion St. Centerville, SD Phone: Fax: We at Centerville Care and Rehab Center strive to create a loving home and provide healing and compassion for all who are placed in our care. Administration Jessie Jorgenson Greetings from Centerville Care and Rehab Center! I am happy to report that our remodeling projects are near complete. The carpet in the hallways has been installed and the Maintenance Department is in the process of freshening up the facility with a new coat of paint in the hallways. The nurses station is near completion! We welcome you to visit and see the finished projects. Now with summer coming we are always looking for entertainment for our residents. Do you know of anyone interested? Maybe a grandchild that loves to sing or play the piano? Give Jan a call in the Activities Department if you or you know someone that is interested. Thank you for the ongoing support to Centerville Care and Rehab Center. Jessie Jorgenson
