1 The Purchasing Exchange The Official Newsletter of the Arizona State Capitol Chapter of NIGP President s Message by Joe Guy, CPPB Hello Chapter Members! What an amazing turn out for the 2017 Regional Conference! We had over 400 attendees for the conference and 135 vendors at the Expo. I think that the event went very well. I would like to ask all of the attendees to please complete the survey so the Chapter can continue to improve the services provided to its members. The attendees and vendors really came through for our charity, Paws 4 Life by donating over $1,400 in cash and approximately 200 donated items. Finally, I want to send out a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted with the event. Congratulations to our new Board Members, Lori Noyes as Secretary and Teena Ziegler as Vice President should be a very strong year with these additions. Thank you to all of those who ran for office and who participated in the election. To close out the year, the Chapter will be hosting a number of webinars and a live class, Preparing for and Surviving Internal Audits. We also have our year end awards luncheon and transitional board meeting. Registration is open for each of these events. I have been honored to represent the Chapter for the last year. You are an amazing group of professionals. This Chapter is and will continue to be a model for how to support the government procurement community. I encourage all of you to do all that you can to keep this Chapter going strong. I am confident that your N o v e m b e r / D e c e m b e r incoming President, Kristy Garcia will exceed all of your expectations. Thank you again for your support and participation. 2 2 Charity News As public servants, each of us supports the communities in which we live and work every day. The Arizona State Capitol Chapter of NIGP believes it is important to give back to our local communities and support those who support others. The December luncheon is the last opportunity to donate to Paws 4 Life. Please bring your charitable contributions so we can help Paws 4 Life provide service training to dogs who in turn provide service to their owners. Service dogs complete extensive training, and are registered through a State-wide Service Dog registry. They complete an 18-month training program, with additional training with local Fire, Police, Sheriff and water/horse distraction training. These service dogs maintain their skills in group training, as well as show off their exceptional abilities at local schools and events! Another part of Paws 4 Life is a food bank that provides owner s who are experiencing hard times food and supplies to provide for their pets, instead of turning them loose or leaving them behind. Your charitable donations help owners feed their pets in hopes of keeping them together during hard times. Let s show our support for this charity by donating the following items at the December luncheon: MOST-NEEDED ITEMS: New leashes Water and Food Bowls Unopened dog treats Unopened dog food (canned or dry) New dog toys: Kongs, rope toys, etc. Brushes and/or combs Gift cards to pet supply stores Baby blankets Doggy beds Clean towels Hand sanitizer Cash donations THANK YOU!
3 3 28th Annual Regional Conference Recap The 28th Annual Regional Conference & Vendor Expo was held October 26, 2017 at the Phoenix Convention Center in downtown Phoenix. Wow, what an event and great turn-out! We had a record number of attendees this year so Thank You to all who participated. We hope you found it valuable and enjoyed a productive and informative AZNIGP Regional Conference. The all-day event featured a vendor trade show, keynote speaker, luncheon meeting, and more than a dozen thought-provoking class sessions given by public procurement professionals. The day was a huge success with 135 vendor booths and over 400 members in attendance. Our members also donated hundreds of items to our charity organization, Paws 4 Life and raised over $1,400. Thank you for your generous contributions! Thank You Sponsor Vendors We want to thank our sponsor vendors for their participation and support. Super Hero: 1GPA, Dave Bang & Associates, Hotel Planner, National IPA, U.S. Communities, and Wist Office Products. Justice League: A & H Painting, Gravity Systems, ICM Document Solutions, Knoll, LDP Associates, MST Solutions, Paramount Roofing, Quality Connections, Simpson Norton, TASC, NJPA, and Axon. Without the assistance of these sponsors, and participation of all vendors, our registration fee for this event would be much higher. Thanks to the vendor s attendance they help pay the conference expenses which help reduce the cost to members. Thank You Speakers Thank you to the many volunteers and professional speakers who graciously took the time to share their knowledge and help our members by providing valuable professional development. Lourdes Coss, Scott Patterson, Edith Baltierrez, Mike Cassidy, Eric Bailey, Patrick Ibarra, Marcheta Gillespie, Jean Clark, Paula Sliefert, Corry Slama, Deborah Sandoval, Charlie Bowers, Tammy Rimes, Peggy Ferrin, Matt Bauer, Tara Acton, Pam Risaliti, Irma Guzman, Becky O Brien, Scott Richardson, Bobby Williams II, Laura Szymanoski, Gary Barkman, Barbara Corella, and Teena Ziegler. Committee It is a huge undertaking to organize an event this size every year and many volunteer hours are put in to make sure it is a success. Thank you committee members for all your hard work. It takes a small village and a year of planning but it is all worth it! Suzanne Alberts, Nicole Arnold, Ingrid Arnott, Jesse Atoigue, Laura Ayala, Gary Barkman, Sharon Brause, Peggy Ferrin, Vicki Fitzpatrick, Brian Garcia, Kristy Garcia, Joe Guy, Irma Guzman, Cyndi Hawk, Heather Hodgman, Karie Ingles, Jim Kennedy, Patricia Lorenzen, Megan Lukehart, Ian Millar, Bill Munch, Lori Noyes, Kelvin Ong, Cheryl Rentscheler, Diana Reyes, Jess Romney, Andrea Stupka, Nancy Vejar, and Darryl Woodson.
