2 page 2 About Kidzeum of Health and Science As a start-up private, non-profit, educational organization, the Kidzeum of Health and Science is a unique solution addressing the critical issues affecting youth today. Childhood obesity is quickly becoming an epidemic throughout the United States. Science education is waning in response to dwindling funding sources in schools. Global warming, pollution, and other harmful environmental impacts challenge our world on a daily basis. MISSION: The mission of the Kidzeum of Health and Science is to create memorable experiences for ALL children that inspire learning and discovery through play. VISION: The vision of the Kidzeum of Health and Science is to establish the premier children s museum in Illinois dedicated to teaching kids about health, wellness, the human body, and the environment s impact on global health. Kidzeum is Vital for Our Youth To educate and enhance the ability of the next generations to confront these problems, Kidzeum is committed to nurturing health awareness, encouraging earth-friendly choices, and increasing science education through innovative, interactive programs, and hands-on exhibits. Through the development of the aptly named Vital for Our Youth Capital Campaign, Kidzeum seeks to raise the estimated $7.4 million needed to build the one-of-a-kind home. Kidzeum will provide our local youth, as well as youth from all over the nation and the world, the opportunities to improve their health and wellness for generations to follow. Kidzeum volunteers have raised $7.15 million so far and can get close to our goal with in-kind support! Kidzeum s Future Home Kidzeum will be a welcoming, fun, educational and entertainment facility located in the heart of downtown Springfield IL, measuring 25,000 square-feet. Kidzeum will house galleries focusing on the elements of healthy living: Healthy Body, Healthy Community and Healthy Earth. Kidzeum will provide an enriching experience that will address relevant and meaningful issues that are critical to the health and happiness of children and their families. The hands-on, multilayer learning engagements with the Galleries will help to educate and entertain visitors of all ages to help them and address critical issues related to health and science. Fun, interactive, and educational exhibits inside each gallery will promote: Competent and supportive community health systems; Wise and conscientious use of land, water, soil, and other resources;

3 page 3 Conservation of energy, sustainability, and personal eco-responsibility; Educational and engaging applications of science and math to the real world. The success of similar efforts nationwide and in other area museums proves there is significant demand for new opportunities for children to learn more about themselves and their environment. Federal funding of this important project would therefore produce significant benefits to the community by teaching the community about the importance of preserving the environment, boosting Springfield s tourism industry and creating jobs.
