Anngela Williams The Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County s Training Institute is an approved provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board and the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board offering Recognized Clock Hours (RCH) to Chemical Dependency Professionals as well as Continuing Professional Education hours (CPE) to Counselors and Social Workers. Fees for the ADAMHS Board Training Institute workshops are $25 per half-day (2-4 hour) session and $45 for a full-day (5+ hour) session. Occasionally, workshops will be offered free on an as-needed basis per topic. Workshop fees are non-refundable. The ADAMHS Board is using Eventbrite to process ALL registrations. Payment can be made by credit card and/or checks made payable to the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County. Invoices may be sent to organizations. All workshop participants must be registered and confirmed in advance through Eventbrite. An order confirmation and entrance ticket to the workshop will be ed through Eventbrite immediately after the registration process is complete. Walk-ups and cash payments will not be accepted. To register for a workshop, visit the Web site listed at the end of each workshop description. Please note that each session has its own unique Web address. If you want to attend more than one session, you must register for each session individually through its unique Web site. Please arrive on time for all scheduled workshops. If you arrive late to a workshop you will not receive a certificate. Partial credit will not be given. In order to receive a certificate of completion, you must be present for the entire workshop. General Information: All workshops are held in the Training Institute, located in the ADAMHS Board offices on the 6 th Floor of the United Bank Building, 2012 West 25 th Street. Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All visitors must check-in at the blue Parking Attendant Booth located in the lot directly behind the building on the east side of West 26 th Street. Visitors are to inform the attendant that they are visiting the ADAMHS Board and will be directed to available parking spaces or may receive complimentary valet parking. Please bring the ticket provided to you from the attendant to the ADAMHS Board receptionist for validation. Free and metered parking is also available on the street. OPEN LEVEL ENTRY LEVEL INTERMEDIATE LEVEL Participants must meet the minimum education level and credential requirements indicated: Open to anyone seeking the most basic understanding/awareness of the topic presented. Registrants must be Certified Chemical Dependency Assistants, Registered Applicants for Prevention, Social Worker Assistant or STNA. Registrant must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II, Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Nurse. William M. Healing ADD in Adults and Children for Behavioral Health Professionals John Ward, LCDC III, CTS July 8, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M. Entry Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) can affect both individuals and families. If you find that ADD affects your clients, then this class will provide an opportunity for you to broaden your understanding of this disorder. We will explore the different types of ADD. We will also discuss an effective program for clinicians to help their clients with their brain function and overcome many of the ADD traits that sabotage chances for success in all aspects of living (relationships, work, school, etc.). Both natural and medical treatments for ADD will be explored, as well as some practical tips for clinicians to help their ADD clients. 4 Understanding the Credentialing Process for Chemical Dependency Counselors Tonya Birney, MS, LPC, LICDC, OCPS-II July 29, :30 A.M. 1:00 P.M Open 4 RCH s Provider # CEU s Provider # RCS FEE: $25 Intended to provide insight into the credentialing process for Chemical Dependency Counselors, this workshop provides an overview of the State of Ohio s requirements to become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. We will explore helpful resources available for those preparing for the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC)/ Alcohol and Drug Counselor written examination. We will also discuss how having the license can be a benefit by validating a chemical dependency professionals expertise in this high demanding service arena. Developmental Milestones and Disorders of Personality Dr. Paul Martin, DO August 5, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M. Entry/Intermediate We will use Eric Erickson s model of normal development in children and adolescents as the basis for discussion. We will look at the organizational problems seen in children as well as maladaptive behaviors seen in adolescents in the form of behavioral problems and personality disorders when children and adolescents do not master these age-specific development milestones. Specifically, we will examine the relationship between conduct disorder in children and antisocial personality disorder in adults, as well as the relationship between reactive attachment disorder in children and borderline personality disorder in adults. Other personality disorders to be discussed include narcissistic, paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal, dependent, and avoidant personality disorders. The Mindful Therapist: Science, Skills, Self, and Spirit John Ropar, Ph.D., PCC-S August 9, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M. Advanced I teach this stuff. I didn t say I know how to do it, Sean Maguire (Robin Williams) in Good Will Hunting. Therapists have been trained to practice their craft, but can still get hijacked in the moment and struggle to remain attuned and attentive in the moment to their clients. This workshop will introduce the exciting research in interpersonal neurobiology that Support Mindfulness as a set of skills to utilize in the practice of psychotherapy, both as specific intervention and as a means of being more fully present in the therapeutic relationship. The workshop also will be an opportunity to engage in Mindful Awareness Practices, as well as discuss the intersection of mindfulness and spirituality. Demystifying EMDR: Clinical Approaches for Recovery Enhancement & Trauma Jamie Marich, Ph.D., LPCC-S, LICDC-CS August 12, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M Open Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a viable psychotherapy for the treatment of trauma and other related mental health disorders. In recent years, several major organizations have endorsed EMDR in practice guidelines as an efficacious treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This workshop uses both didactic and experiential components to explain the theoretical element of EMDR, clear up common misconceptions about the therapeutic approach, assess client appropriateness for EMDR referral, and help you to decide if further training in EMDR is for you. Some EMDR-related techniques are taught for use by attendees in clinical settings. Page 3
5 Child and Adolescent Suicide Dr. Paul Martin, DO September 2, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M. The Integration of Spirituality into Health, Counseling and Psychotherapy Katherine Greig, Ph.D, LISW-S, LPC September 16, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M Entry/Intermediate Open This is an in-depth discussion of suicide in children and adolescents, looking at age, gender, and race. We will examine suicide causation, looking at sociocultural as well as biological factors. We will look at signs of impending suicide and suicide attempts and how to respond. We will then look at strategies for treatment and prevention. A Treatment Approach to Reactive Attachment Disorder John Ward, LCDC III, CTS September 8, :30 A.M. 4:00 P.M This workshop explores the relationship between spirituality, religion and health outcomes. Key terms will be defined. Various way of expressing spiritually will be discussed as well as the characteristics of spirituality and their effect on health. The relationship between spirituality and resiliency will also be explored. Current research that examines the relationship between spirituality, religion and health will be discussed. Finally, the incorporation of spirituality into counseling and psychotherapy will be addressed. Entry SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL RECOVERY AWARENESS MONTH. Learn practical ways of helping your clients discover tools and techniques to help maintain their sanity and bring healing to Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) children in loving and practical ways. You will also discover how to teach parent s The Dynamic Dozen parenting techniques that work well with RAD children. Discover several clinical interventions that help build attachment with RAD children. This class is taught by a trainer who has both lived and worked with RAD children for over 19 years. 7 Presenter Information Tonya Birney, MS, LPC, LICDC, OCPS II, earned her Masters of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University and her Bachelor s Degree in Business Management from Notre Dame College of Ohio. Tonya serves as the Training Officer for the Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services Board of Cuyahoga County, where her responsibilities include coordinating the Training Institute. A certified trainer for the Girls Institute of Ohio, Tonya has presented workshops in this region for the State of Ohio Department of Parks and Recreation, the Midwest Alcohol Policy Summit and most recently 2015 Annual OPEC Conference held in Athens, Ohio. Tonya s theoretical orientation is relational cultural theory and she specializes in working with clients and their families who are suffering from substance use disorders and other addictions. Tonya was selected to represent the state as an item writer for the ICRC AODA Prevention Exam in 2011 and she currently works in private practice at CJ Hendry & Associates in Westlake, Ohio. Katherine Grieg, PhD, LISW-S, LPC, is the Director of New Perspective Counseling Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a trainer, consultant and professor of Social Work. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Education and a Masters in Counseling Education from Cleveland State University. She later received a Masters and a PhD in Social Work from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. She was the recipient of a Pre-doctoral Minority Fellowship from the National Institute of Aging and The Marie Haug Student Award, in Recognition for Excellence in Aging Studies. She recently published a book entitled, Menoirs of the 2008 and 2012 Presidential: Voice of a Skeptical Voter. Edward Leigh, MA, Founder & Director of the Center for Healthcare Communication, an Ohio-based training and consulting firm focusing on client/patient and employee engagement. A seasoned healthcare professional with over 25 years in the field, Mr. Leigh earned a masters degree in health education from Kent State University. He presents programs for social service agencies, hospitals, healthcare associations, medical practices, government organizations and universities. A prolific writer, he has written hundreds of articles and is the author of the upcoming book, Engaging Your Patients, and has his own patient communication column on the popular caregiver website, ecarediary. His expertise put him in the national spotlight and has been featured on The Today Show, MSNBC News, The Discovery Health Channel, The Oprah Winfrey Network, Montel Williams and Katie Couric. Dr. Jamie Marich, Ph.D, LPCC-S, LICDC-CS, travels internationally speaking on topics related to EMDR, trauma, addiction, and mindfulness while maintaining a private practice (Mindful Ohio) in her home base of Warren, OH. She is the developer of the Dancing Mindfulness practice ( and regularly trains facilitators to take this unique practice into both clinical and community settings. Jamie Marich is the author of EMDR Made Simple: 4 Approaches for Using EMDR with Every Client (2011), Trauma and the Twelve Steps: A Complete Guide for Recovery Enhancement (2012), and Trauma Made Simple: Competencies in Assessment, Treatment, and Working with Survivors. Her new book, Dancing Mindfulness: A Creative Path to Living in the Moment is scheduled for release in 2015 with Skylight Paths Press. Marich is also a certified rational living hypnotherapist and completed the Street Yoga trauma-informed yoga teacher training program. Dr. Paul Martin, DO, completed a residency in psychiatry at Case/Metrohealth and a fellowship in Forensic Medicine, Syracuse University. In addition to several years as a staff psychiatrist working in jails, crisis centers and prisons, he has served as consultant to State of Wisconsin public defenders regarding competency issues. As a consultant he has presented throughout the states of New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio to social services, law enforcement, probation, school personnel, businesses and universities on topics of mental health issues, stress and violence in the workplace, and adolescent violence. Anthony President, BA, is a Certified Trainer with the Institute for Human Services, Ohio Human Services Training Program, Author and Executive Coach. He holds a BA in Sociology from John Carroll University. He has served with distinction as the Senior Training Officer, for Cuyahoga County Human Services and worked with fragile families as a Social Services Worker. Mr. President has over 16 years training experience in both the public and private sector on a variety of Social Service and Employee Development topics for a variety of Human Service Agencies throughout the state of Ohio, Iowa and Western Pennsylvania. He received numerous awards for training excellence including the Voice of the Children Award, Rising Training Star Award, NE Ohio Trainer of the Year Award, and the OCWTP Trainer of the Year Award. John Ropar, Ph.D., PCC-S, graduated from John Carroll University and earned a masters degree in Community Counseling at Duquesne University. He served as program and clinical director at Circle C Group Homes before his doctoral work at the University of Akron in Counselor Education. His completed a doctoral internship at John Carroll and then became the center s director before beginning a private practice in Hudson, Ohio. He has presented numerous programs and workshop on mindfulness and meditation to teacher s groups, parents, and was a keynote speaker at the Ignatian Spirituality Project National Conference in March Dr. Ropar has completed a two year training program in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and has been a spiritual director for 12 years. John Ward, LCDC III, CTS, is a licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III and a Certified Trauma Specialist. He has been involved in child-welfare/human services in many aspects: as a foster child, adopted child, foster parent, caseworker, supervisor and a teacher/trainer.
