3 The 2017 POPAI Fall Conference will be returning to the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana, The fantastic hotel and conference facility provides the perfect setting for probation professionals to improve themselves in a variety of ways, from the task specific, to the physical being, to the emotional self. This conference is for anyone in the field of probation and probation services. The goal of the conference is to provide another opportunity to assist you in obtaining the required 12 hours of annual continuing education required for Probation Officers in the State of Indiana. Attendance at all sessions will provide 9 hours of continuing education credit. Attendees will be given the opportunity to gain probation specific knowledge on techniques, services and technology of the future being utilized in Indiana today. Opportunities will also be available for attendees to retreat, share ideas, participate in some outdoor activities and to enjoy an excellent training and networking environment. 4 Topics to be Presented The Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana is proud to offer nationally known speakers and a variety of topics for this year s conference. With the assistance of Alcohol Monitoring Systems (AMS), we are excited to be bringing in nationally known speaker Doug Marlowe who will present the keynote address and breakout sessions related to the use of effective behavioral interventions for clients involved in the criminal justice system. Areas such as case planning, incentives and sanctions, and risk and needs will all be addressed by Dr. Marlowe. And yes, these will all count as EBP specific hours! Our closing session speaker is Dr. Daniel Sumrok, Director of the Center for Addiction Services at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Sumrok will be discussing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE s) and their connection to substance abuse problems later in life. Sessions include: Keynote Presentation: Douglas B. Marlowe, J.D., Ph.D., FCPP, is a Senior Scientific Consultant for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), a Senior Science & Policy Advisor for Alcohol Monitoring Systems, and a training faculty member of the Global Institute of Forensic Research. Previously, he was the Chief of Science, Law & Policy for NADCP, the Director of Law & Ethics Research at the Treatment Research Institute, and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. A lawyer and clinical psychologist, Dr. Marlowe studies the impact of coercion in substance use disorder treatment, the effects of drug courts and other rehabilitation programs for persons with substance use disorders involved in the criminal justice system, and behavioral treatments for persons with substance use disorders and justice system involvement. Closing Presentation: Dr. Daniel Sumrok is the Director of the Center for Addiction Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center s College of Medicine. The center is the first to receive the Center of Excellence designation from the Addiction Medicine Foundation, a national organization that accredits physician training in addiction medicine. Sumrok is also one of the first 106 physicians in the U.S. to become board-certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Sumrok, a family physician and former U.S. Army Green Beret who s served the rural area around McKenzie, TN, for the last 28 years, combines the latest science of addiction and applies it to his patients, most of whom are addicted to opioids but also to alcohol, food, sex, gambling, etc. Breakout Sessions: Systems of Care Drug Testing Methodologies (Urine, Saliva, Hair, Blood, etc.) PERF and Retirement Planning Evidence Based Practice Sex Offender Supervision Human Trafficking Learning Teams DOC Audits Incentives and Sanctions Chiefs Roundtable.and much more!

5 Free Time Activities A group of Corporate Members will again be sponsoring a special dinner and dancing on Wednesday evening. Thursday free time activities will include an Escape Room!
