1 Tahoe Nevada AAUW Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Volume 24, Number 10 June 2015 President s Message Hello summertime and summer friends, and goodbye as your TN-AAUW President! What a wonderful year it has been. There are not thanks enough for all of you who have been so supportive of our efforts this year in fundraising, growing our membership, improving our policies and procedures, and participating in all that our organization offers. Some reminders before summer fun and visitors distract you: RENEW your AAUW membership NOW! You can do it online or via USPS using the membership form at the end of this newsletter. VOTE in the AAUW National Election. The first 25 branches to have 75 percent or more of eligible voters cast votes in the AAUW National Election will win a flag that has been flown over the U.S. Capitol. As one member of the fundraising committee said, Oh, goody! We can auction it off! Voting will take you 5-10 minutes, and it s easy. AAUW s Spring/Summer 2015 Outlook magazine covers the election in detail; information can also be found at You will need to have your voter PIN and member ID, found on the back cover of your Outlook magazine; your PIN and member ID can also be located in an message from AAUW Membership with the subject line, Here s your AAUW ballot. Vote now. If you can t locate either, AAUW at connect@aauw.org, tell them you need your voter PIN and give them your membership number. RESERVE your seats for our August fundraiser at Sand Harbor on August 6 The Fantasticks drinks, dinner, dessert, and a show! Tickets are $100 each. Keep reading this newsletter for more details. VOLUNTEER to ensure our August fundraiser w ill be a huge success. Many hands make light work! Contact Debbie Nicholas at nicholas89451@gmail.com. I m looking forward to summer fun with many of you over the coming months, and welcoming our new President Charlotte Curtis with the rest of you in September! and now so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye Stacy AAUW June 2015 Newsletter Page 1

3 OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS' GROUP The Outdoor Enthusiasts Group gets together year round to enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, other outdoor activities (and good companionship!) in the beautiful Lake Tahoe area. We are currently hiking and will continue to do so throughout the summer. We meet at 9:30 AM every Monday (weather permitting) in the lower parking lot of the Village Church on McCourry Blvd. at the Mt. Rose Hwy.; from there we carpool to our hiking location for a two to three hour outing. Occasionally, with advance notice, we plan hikes further afield which also include either a picnic lunch or lunch out at a restaurant. Contact me Lwhetstone@prodigy.net or if you would like to participate and be notified of upcoming hikes by . During the warmer months, a kayaking group goes out from Ski/Hermit Beach in Incline Village at 9 AM most Wednesday mornings. Please contact Liz Paganelli at Lpag007@aol.com to be added to the kayaking list. A road-biking group the Wheeling Women will go out on Friday mornings for outings in the greater Tahoe area during good biking weather. Please contact Millie Clarke at millie.clarke@gmail.com if you would like to join that group and be added to their list. Thanks, Lynn AAUW June 2015 Newsletter Page 3
