1 1 P a g e S u m m e r The Pastor s Ponderings... Summer 2018 Walk Barefoot with God (from an ad for Barefoot Revolution: Biblical Spirituality for Finding God, by Paul Marshall) One of my fondest memories from my youth when the summers seemed to last forever was going barefoot. Freed from the seasonal restriction of shoes, and with the caress of summer breezes and the refreshment of an occasional puddle, my feet have seldom been happier! In terms of church programs especially attendance I have sometimes referred to summer as the season of Presbyterian hibernation. The lure of the shore, the beach, the Poconos, or even places farther north, is often irresistible! But at the last meeting of our Brown Bag Bible Study several participants lamented the fact that we would not be officially meeting again until September. (Consequently, there may be several unofficial gatherings for lunch over the next few months to enjoy the fellowship and the opportunities for prayer to which we have become accustomed.) All of this having been said, the summer months still have the potential to be a time of spiritual growth: Freed from the restriction of our routines during the other three seasons, we can if we are willing enjoy a season of spiritual refreshment. The fact is as one of our BBBS ers pointed out God never takes a vacation! God is always there to hear our prayers, to forgive our sins, and to equip us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The writer of Lamentations put it this way: (3:22-26) The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him. The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. This summer, may we take some time to walk barefoot with God. Then come fall may we also take some time to share the blessings we have subsequently received and enjoyed! Dave Lovelace
