5 Exhibitions Long Gallery Exhibitions Long Gallery 8 9 Little Black Dress Long Gallery, North Down Museum: Wednesday 29 November 2017 Sunday 18 March 2018: FREE In every woman s wardrobe, the little black dress is a fashion icon. This exhibition explores the variety of shapes and styles from the Victorian mourning dress to the 1920's flapper dress and the 1950's wiggle dress to the 1970's crochet dress. There are also a variety of modern dresses that take their inspiration from earlier decades. RANDOM Long Gallery, North Down Museum: Thursday 22 March Sunday 3 June: FREE North Down Museum holds a wide range of artefacts and artworks that spend most of their time in the stores. This can be for several reasons but it is usually because they rarely fit into the stories we are trying to tell. This exhibition, entitled Random, is exactly that a look at the weird, wonderful and random artefacts the Museum looks after which rarely make it out to display. The display includes dresses from Down County Museum, North Down Museum s collection as well as wonderful dresses from the wardrobes of local women. FOR MORE INFORMATION: OR CALL US ON
6 Exhibitions Community Gallery Exhibitions Community Gallery Species by Pauline Little Auschwitz. recaptured The Community Gallery, North Down Museum: Tuesday 9 January Sunday 4 February: FREE Exhibition of Art by North Down & Ards U3A Skies, Coast & Wildlife The Community Gallery, North Down Museum: Tuesday 6 March Sunday 1 April: FREE The Community Gallery, North Down Museum: Tuesday 3 April Sunday 29 April: FREE This exhibition combines a 25-year passion for abstract painting with Pauline s interest in gardening: digging, planting and transplanting across the seasons. David J Campbell is a locally-based self-taught photographer with a passion for his art. He strives to capture the uniqueness and essence of his every image. Let his exhibition take you on a journey that is both visual and emotional. Allow yourself to be recaptured how would you feel? The Community Gallery, North Down Museum: Tuesday 6 February Sunday 4 March: FREE North Down and Ards U3A (University of the Third Age) is a volunteer-led organisation. It supports and encourages older people to play, learn, create and enjoy their hobbies and interests. North Down and Ards U3A has four thriving art groups. This is a selection of some of their work. Enjoy the talents of a group of local artists who paint coastal landscapes and wildlife using vibrant colours to represent the impact that different light and skies of the seasons can have on the culture of this beautiful part of Ireland. The artists have all lived in North Down and Ards for many years and are inspired by the fantastic scenery that abounds the area. Copeland Islands, Scrabo and the Mourne Mountains that can be seen in the distance. Much of the wildlife is incorporated in the works of art, particularly that of Strangford Lough. Human activity is changing our environment but we do not know what actions are leading to its ecological decline. In response, she has begun to speculate on the other world we hardly understand: life below the earth. This has generated her current paintings about life in the ground and the seasonal transition from dormancy to abundance. Pauline Little studied painting at Middlesex University in London and the Cooper Union in NYC. She was invited to join the London Group in 1994 where she has been a member since and has exhibited across the UK. FOR MORE INFORMATION: OR CALL US ON
