6 Why ProAction Cops & Kids matters ProAction Cops & Kids is a charitable organization that funds programs, designed and delivered by police officers that engage young people in positive skill-building activities they otherwise could not afford. Through music, sports, cooking and other fun programs, officers are able to build positive relationships with young people and help guide them to better life choices. Through ProAction programs, participants see officers as positive role models and mentors, not just law enforcers. At ProAction, we believe that building stronger relationships between cops and kids improves the lives of the youth involved and benefits our communities today and for the future. ProAction Cops & Kids operates four Chapters throughout Ontario: Toronto (est. 1991), Durham Region (est. 2007), Hamilton (est. 2008) and Niagara Region (est. 2014). ProAction s Niagara Region Chapter was formally established in May 2014 and started delivering programs for youth in January Since this chapter has been established ProAction has engaged almost 700 Niagara youth in 14 programs in partnership with 140 Niagara police officers. All proceeds raised from Niagara Region s 2 nd Annual Chief s Gala for ProAction Cops & Kids will be dedicated to supporting police-led programs for at-risk youth in all communities throughout Niagara Region. 7 Why Victim Services Niagara matters Caring, listening, supporting - in tragic circumstances VSN is there. Victim Services Niagara utilizes trained staff and volunteers to deliver crisis intervention, information and referral services to over 900 victims of crime and tragic circumstances each year. By working in partnership with the Niagara Regional Police Services, VSN is able to ensure victims in our community receive emotional support and practical assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through immediate assistance and a variety of services, VSN lessens the trauma of victims by validating emotions and reactions, assisting the victim in accessing appropriate support services in our community and helping them regain a sense of personal control in order to return their lives to a desired degree of stability. VSN accomplishes these goals through the provision of four services: on-scene response, administration of Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP), safety planning, and the provision of personal alarms through the Mobile Tracking Emergency System (MTERS) program.
