Drug box recognition ceremony at Young s Pharmacy, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. The Summerfest Activities for Thursday, June 14, have been cancelled since stage is not ready for dedication by Town. The time for the memorial Service for Ken VanPraag at St. Henry s Church has been changed to 11:30 a.m. Thank you notes were received from the KI Children s Fund for the recent $200 donation that the members attending a meeting donated to the fund for Skip-A-Meal, HOBY New York East for the club s sponsorship of an APHS sophomore s attendance at the upcoming weekend seminar and Christina Mien for help with the APHS 9 th Grade Community Service Day Stu Nippes announced that we really need help in contacting local businesses for donations in support of Summerfest. Bob Loveridge and Janet Malecki announced that West Fall Village is holding a Jazz Fest and Cigar Tent on Saturday, June 16 and has offered to include our Summerfest Program in PICs 106 radio advertisements for this even. The Club voted to accept this offer. PROGRAM: Pat Lane gave an update on the work of the Service Leadership Programs Committee where she emphasized the value of the K- Kids, Builders Club and Key Club programs in getting kids involved in community service.
4 BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES: Happy Birthday to David Booker, Justin Glasser, and Kevin Sarsfield Happy Anniversary to Joe & Audrey Trupia, Bob & Joan Pasquarelli and Jim and Jan Colabelli Once again we enjoyed the beautiful and delicious cake that Eve prepare for the occasion! HAPPY DOLLARS: $ Nancy Davis for providing space at Summerfest for the Elmer E. Stahlman Scholarship Fund, for accepting her help at Doors of Hope even when she gets in the way, and for a super performance by the Brass Ensemble at the Memorial Day Parade/Ceremony. $ Skip Patton for a good day at the Baseball Hall of Fame $ Jim Rogers for getting his car inspected in about 30 minutes for a fee of $10.00 and for receiving a promotional gift of $20.00 from Nissan that landed him a small profit. $ Kevin Sarsfield for a great two weeks in Alaska with his wife, Phillis. $ Jim Colabelli for the satisfactory results from a recent medical inspection. $ John Brownrigg for the privilege of presenting the SLKC Senior awards to APHS students on Thursday evening. DRAWINGS: DOOR PRIZE: was won by Craig Daniels MEALS: three were four extra meals all were bought by Skip Patton, Peg Weiss and Ron Wagner. Thank you for making the loss to the club be less than it would have been. 50/50: of $17.00 was won by Jim Colabelli PROGRESSIVE 50/50: After no one owned up to holding the ticket that Jim drew for the Progressive 50/50 now worth $ with 23 cards left, President John palmed, sorry that is drew his own ticket. The pot was not won when he drew the Jack of Diamonds. COMING... Acceptance of Treasurer s report: Upon the motion offered by Director Lewandusky, supported by Director Colabelli and carried on a voice vote the report of the Treasurer (copy attached to these minutes) was accepted for filing. Committee reports: for activity in May Communications (Behson). Club bulletin (Behson, Lane, Mulligan, Loveridge, Sarsfield, Rogers & Booker): 30 hours volunteered by seven members taking notes and pictures at the meetings, transcribing the notes, editing the transcriptions, adding the photos to the text, reformatting from publication on the web site, publishing on the web site and notifying the members of the availability of the three issues of the club s newsletter in May. Community Lettered Signs (Whipple): No report received. Facebook: (Jen Glasser/Behson) One member spent 2 to 3 hours on Facebook page maintenance and posts. Another an additional hour for Facebook coordination. Print media articles: (Behson/Malecki/Brownrigg): One member devoted three hours for Summerfest PR coordination. Web site (Booker) one member spent 4 administrative hours on the club s web site and Portalbuzz. Club Calendar (Behson) Two members volunteered six hours meeting with the three K-Kids Clubs to explain the calendar program. Club Meetings (Stevens) Seven members assisted with setting up, breaking down and storing the meeting paraphernalia and/or taking attendance and collecting for the meal at one or more of the three regular meetings - estimated seven and one-half hours. Community Services (Glasser/Glasser) Doors of Hope (Ginther) Eight members volunteered 10 total hours unloading and storing food items from one or both of the two deliveries from the Northeastern Regional Food Bank (5994 lbs.) during May. Hometown Hero Award: A number of members attended the ceremony at which John Brownrigg received the 2018 Father Kelley Society Hometown Hero award. Memorial Day Parade: 13 members participated in the Memorial Day Parade and the club presented a memorial wreath at the ceremony. Miracle League Opening Day Food Trailer: Seven members volunteered 25½ hours preparing the trailer, transporting the trailer and/or staffing the trailer to provide food items at the opening day ceremony for the Miracle League of the Capital Region. Interclub (Pasquarelli) Seven members and one guest attended the May Division Council Meeting hosted by the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club.
6 Committee Reports (continued) Membership & Education (Brownrigg) There were no potential new members attending any meetings in May. Programs (Ward) There were programs at the three regular meetings in May. Social Committee (Ward) No report received. Spiritual Aims (Pasquarelli) No report received. Sponsored Youth (Lane/Mulligan/Malecki/Nippes/Hamlin) Key Club (Mulligan): The club advisor attended four meetings. The May 23 rd meeting was a tour of the AMC Children s Hospital and Neo-natal clinic. (5.5 hours total) Algonquin Middle School Builders Club (Lane): The Kiwanis Advisor made baked goods for sale for the Movie Night meeting. The club took over one of the computer labs. The movie was fantastic and an anti-bullying message. The movie was free but the goodies that many baked were not. The kids raised $120. Miller Hill/Sand Lake Elementary Schools K Kids (Hamlin): No report received. Poestenkill Elementary School K Kids (Nippes): No report received. West Sand Lake K Kids (Malecki): No report received. Ways & Means (Glasser, Justin) Pasta Dinner (Loveridge): 10 members volunteered 44½ hours, shopping for, setting up the hall, preparing the sauce for, cooking the pasta, serving the 35 meals and cleaning up after the event. A net profit of $ was realized. Young Children Priority #1 (Loveridge) A tour of the AMC facilities was arranged for three members, the wife of a member, 2 Castleton Kiwanians, two APHS Key Club members, the two APHS Key Club Faculty Advisors and 5 Algonquian Builders Club members. Youth Services (Lane): The committee chair checked with three school nurses to see if they had any lastminute needs for the end of the year and they couldn't think of anything. Four club members volunteered 18 hours preparing the project or working with 41 members of the APHS 9 th Grade at Butler Park cleaning the park for the High School s Community Service Day. Ad hoc committees: The members who attended two meetings in May voluntarily donated $ to the Kiwanis International Children s Fund in lieu of the discontinued Skip-A-Meal Campaign. Old business: None New Business (previously introduced): Determine the club s participation in the Annual Town-wide Garage Sale. Tabled to allow for a member to determine if the organizing group wants the Food Trailer to be there to sell food. Change the regular meeting time to 6:30p.m. Tabled to allow the member who proposed this item to be present to make the presentation. Cancel the July Pasta Dinner. Tabled to determine if the Fire Hall would be available. Tent request by the Dorr Family Reunion July 29, 30 & 31; approved. Other New Business: Tent request by Director Loveridge for the use of the large tent June 22 and 23; approved. Change of date of Board meeting; the board changed the date of the July Board meeting to July 9. Introduction of New Business to be considered at the July 2, 2018 Board Meeting: None Division News: The two candidates for Governor Elect will be at the June 12 Division Council Meeting District News: The deadline to submit bylaw amendments to be considered at the August District Convention is June 16 International News: Only four members of the VRD are known to have registered for the Las Vegas Kiwanis International Convention. Pay the Bills; the bills were approved for payment.
