Hamlin, Craig Daniels & ANNOUNCEMENTS: Pat Lane reminded everyone of the First Lady s Project (Krafts for Kamp) to be completed at the S/L Division Council Meeting on the 14 th - Members are asked to bring Craft items for the Kiwanis Camp. A flyer of the types of items needed was distributed. Joe Behson announced that we still have a few calendars available for sale and also stated that he would bring them to the Division Council Meeting. John Brownrigg announced that the Kiwanis shirt order is in and items will be distributed at the next meeting. Shirts Long & Short Sleeve Available, approx. $29.00 ea. Bring $$$ for payment. Stuart Nippes announced that S/L Kiwanis has partnered with the NØPIATES Committee and Burden Lake Country Club for a fund-raising event (Fun for a Cause) at BLCC on Saturday January 19 th 6 9 pm. Food and Live entertainment The Lost Ark Band, as well as information and resources regarding the opioid crisis will be available. Come out to support this event bring friends, family and neighbors. No charge donations accepted. Bob Loveridge announced that he had collected the additional funds from local businesses for the Bells of Life Campaign - $ That amount added to the amount raised at Crossgates Mall last month ($1,205.00) equals a grand total collected of $1, This will be forwarded to AMCH. PROGRAM: Interclub Committee Update Bob Pasquarelli provided general information pertaining to Inter-clubs definition, benefits and requirements. He explained that we have had one Division Council Meeting so far this administrative year held in Troy. He also made everyone aware that the Sand Lake Club has won awards/patches for their participation in inter-clubbing in the past.

3 BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES: Although Jude Clemente was not at the meeting, we celebrated his January birthday as well as those of Bob Loveridge, Skip Patton and Jim Colabelli. None of the club have a January anniversary, but we did enjoy the beautifully decorated cake prepared by Eve. HAPPY DOLLARS: $ Pat Lane: (5 dollars) For Pete Stevens for reminding her what to do while setting up the sign in table. Her upcoming trip to South Carolina and Georgia with the Garden Club. Getting a new car 2018 Chevy Malibu. Thanks to members of the club for their help with the Holiday gifts and food project, and she read an from a project recipient - thanking the club. $ Joe Behson: (3 dollars) Margaret had surgery and feels much better now. She is doing great, partially because of Eve loaning her a walker and Bryce loaning her a cane. $ Joe Trupia: (1 dollar) Joe explained that a year ago he received a call from someone requesting him to research and do a program about the Eberie Brothers, Bob & Ray (Big Band members originally from Hoosick Falls). One of the brothers, Bob, was voted the #1 vocalist in 1942 (#2 was Frank Sinatra). Joe and a friend put together a one-hour program which they will be present at the Sand Lake Town Hall on Thursday night at 7pm. The public is invited. $ Stuart Nippes: Thanked Kevin Sarsfield, Pete Stevens & Pat Lane for agreeing to serve on a committee to check the books for the club. $ Peg Weiss: Peg took her annual trip to South Carolina to visit with her kids, grand kids, great grand kids and 5 dogs. But Peg is Glad to be home. $ Bob Pasquarelli: Visited daughter in White River Junction. Went to see her in a play and had Christmas dinner at Chillis. $ John Mulligan: Initially, his middle son came to visit for Christmas and then the rest of the family members followed. $ Dave Booker: read that Delta Airline had to divert a flight from Beijing to Seattle to a most remote and desolate island in the Pacific. And that the passengers had had to spend Christmas Eve on this remote location. He remembered, not too fondly, that he had been stationed for a year on the same island, Shemya Island, the next to last of the Aleutian Islands. $ Jean Hamlin: Sold calendars at the bank, insurance company, bar and additional copies left at the bank. Grand Daughter wrote a letter to Santa Dear Santa, my sister steals my toys but please don t put her on the bad list. $ Wayne Simmons: Glad to be here. He announced that he is fighting Cancer. It s been two years now and he has had the opportunity to go on many vacations and do things with family and friends. Glad to still be here.

4 DRAWINGS: DOOR PRIZE: provided by Bob Pasquarelli was won by Bob Loveridge a bottle of liquid of which he can wine about. 50/50: worth $19.00 was won by..(the others at the editor s table were so distracting that he missed who won the 50/50! Was it Joe Behson???) PROGRESSIVE 50/50: grew to $67.50 but the elusive King of Clubs avoided Jean who drew the Jack of Diamond from the 50 cards left in the deck. COMING... Others present: PSDLG Lane, PP Hamlin and Member Murdick. Approval of previous meeting s minutes: The minutes of the December 3, 2018 meeting were accepted as published. Acceptance of Treasurer s report: Accepted for filing as presented. Committee reports: for activity in December. Communications (Behson) Club bulletin (Behson, Lane, Mulligan, Loveridge, Sarsfield, Rogers & Booker): Four members devoted 14.5 total hours to taking notes and photos at two club meetings; preparing the text for the two club bulletins published; editing the text, reformatting it and adding pictures to it for publication on the web site; publishing the two issues and notifying the members and other interested individuals of the publications. No notes or pictures taken of the Holiday Party. Community Lettered Signs (Whipple): One member lettered the signs to advertise the December 8 and January 12 Pasta Dinners and the Church of the Covenant, UMC Church Bazaar and Christmas Eve services 3 hours. Facebook: (Jen Glasser/Behson): One member spent two hours on Facebook postings. Print media articles (Loveridge, Malecki): It was reported that three members spent 7.5 hours preparing an article about the pasta dinner for the Advertiser; taking photos at club activities and on K-Kids communication. Web site (Booker) One member volunteered 6 hours maintaining the club s web site and club management software database. Administrative (Behson): One member devoted one hour to compiling the committee report. Club Calendar (Behson): Four members took 14 hours to finalize the Kiwanis Calendar; distribute the calendar to the sponsored SLPs, the SLP Advisors, calendar sponsors and for sale to club members. Club Meetings (Stevens) Nine members assisted with setting up, breaking down and storing the meeting paraphernalia and/or taking attendance and collecting for the meal at one or more of the three regular meetings - estimated 4.25 hours. Community Services (Glasser)

5 American Red Cross Blood Drive (Loveridge): Five members volunteered 21.5 hours assisting with the setup, registration, canteen or cleanup for the December 27 blood drive at the Church of the Covenant, UMC. 27 units were collected. Doors of Hope (Ginther/Daniels) 11 members volunteered to unload and store the delivered food for one or both deliveries from the NE Regional Foodbank. 13 total hours 7294 pounds total. APCSD Weekend Food Backpack program: One member with a partner volunteered 6 hours each making three trips to the NE Regional Foodbank to pick up food and deliver it to the schools. Interclub (Pasquarelli) There were no interclubs in December. Membership & Education (Brownrigg) No report of activity received. Programs (Brownrigg) There were programs at each of the three regular meetings in December. The meetings of December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year s Eve) were cancelled and members given a roundtable credit. Social Committee (Malecki) 26 members and guests enjoyed the Annual Holiday Party on December 17. Spiritual Aims (Pasquarelli) There was no report submitted for the month of December. Sponsored Youth (Lane/Mulligan/Malecki/Nippes/Hamlin) Key Club (Mulligan): The Kiwanis Advisor attended 3 Key Club meetings in December: The 5 th, 12 th and 19 th. Each meeting took about 1 hour. He provided pizza for the meeting on the 19 th (no cost to Kiwanis). December activities included the following: The Key Club adopted a family for Xmas and wrapped the presents during the Club s Christmas party on the 19 th. Club members also filled 15 shoe boxes with presents such as toiletries, underwear, tee shirts etc. for kids in a school in the Dominican Republic. This was done in conjunction with the New Horizon s club at the school which has adopted the school and sends presents each year. The Club members assisted Kiwanis with Bells of Life (3 members) and the pasta dinner (9 members) on December 8. Algonquin Middle School Builders Club (Lane): The Kiwanis Advisor attended two meetings. She baked, bought candy and provided the movie, Sherlock Gnomes, for their movie night. They raised $74.45 for Juvenile Diabetes. She also attended their Christmas party on Thursday and supplied Skittles Candy Canes. They had fun playing trivia games about Christmas on our phones. The Builders Club had a hat and mitten tree at school, and she brought a box with about 60 or 70 hats, gloves, scarfs and mittens and put them in our boxes of toys. Miller Hill/Sand Lake Elementary Schools K Kids (Hamlin): No report received. Poestenkill Elementary School K Kids (Hamlin): No report submitted. West Sand Lake K Kids (Malecki): No report submitted. Ways & Means (Nippes) Pasta Dinner (Loveridge): At the December 8 Pasta Dinner 11 members, 9 Key Club members and a volunteer volunteered 78 hours, serving 68 meals. Gross income from the meal was $ Young Children Priority #1 (Loveridge) Eight members, three APHS Key Club members and two APHS SAAD members volunteered 75 hours at the Crossgates Mall and collected $ for the Bells of Life Holiday Campaign. Additional funds will be received from local businesses that collected donations from their patrons. The niece of a member, who lives on the Cape, sent a bag of hats; the member and her sister took them to Samaritan Hospital: 42 little hats for little babies! Youth Services (Lane): The club provided Food and Gift Baskets for 80 local families with 194 children. $1545 for teenager gifts; $ younger children s gifts; 381 toys from the Toys for Tots; 500 donated stocking stuffers; 194 food boxes donated by the customers of the West Sand Lake Hannaford; $1415 of Food Only Gift Cards. 18 members and five volunteers (spouse, waitress & other relatives) volunteered 189 hours collecting food and toy donations, sorting the items, packing the baskets and distributing them to the needy families. Ad hoc committees: A special polling of the board to approve a partnership with NØPIATES for a fundraiser to be held at the Burden Lake Country Club of January 19, 2019 was approved with 11 members responding with their approval. Old business: Membership recruitment initiative: (remains tabled for Membership Committee report) Beatles Tribute Band Fund Raiser: (taken from the table for a committee update) Reported that the Hey Jude Band and the Averill Park High School auditorium had been secured for the Saturday, April 13 concert. Committee recommended that the club partner with the NØPIATES Committee for the concert. Partnership approved details to be arranged. Appointment of Audit Committee: President Nippes appointed Sarsfield, Stevens and Lane as the Audit Committee.

6 Request for donation to Jr. Achievement: (remains tabled for presentation by representative) New Business (previously introduced): Approve donation to the Kiwanis Children s Fund Annual Club Gift Campaign: $5.00 per member donation approved Approve donation to the NYD Foundation Annual Outreach Campaign: $2.00 per member donation approved. Approve Sand Lake Seniors Association Luncheon on Thursday, February 14 at 1PM: approved as a continuing project. Approve donation to Burden Lake Country Club in support of the 2/19/19 NØPIATES Fundraiser expenses: $ donation approved. Other New Business: President Nippes proposed discontinuing committee update programs on Board Meeting nights in favor of social dinners on an experimental basis. Approved with one abstention. Introduction of New Business to be considered at the February 4, 2019 Board Meeting: Proposal to sponsor a new K Kids Club at Saint Henry s Church. Division News: Next week the club will host the Division Council Meeting bring Krafts for the Kids. District News: Registration for the February Mid-Year Conference is now open on-line at International News: The registration fees for the KICon have been announced: $ until April 5; $ from April 6 to May 17; $ on site only after May 18 or $ for a single-day registration. Pay the Bills: The bills were approved for payment.
