Pat Lane announced that the Christmas food and toy distribution will include 91 children with the possibility that more families will be added to the list. Eve Ward will be preparing gifts for teenagers as well, and all Kiwanians were asked to contribute to a fund for this purpose. Joe Behson distributed additional calendars to the Key Club, Builders Club and K- Kids Club advisors and reminded club members that calendars were available for Kiwanians to purchase at $10.00 each. When a customer at the West Sand Lake Hannaford buys a Fresh Cookbook in December, they can direct a $5 donation to the Sand Lake Kiwanis Club PLEASE share this news with any of your friends and neighbors who might wish to help the club in this way. PROGRAM: Peter Stevens provided an update on the work of our Club s House Committee. This committee is responsible for providing a meeting space, setting up the sound system, banners and any equipment needed for the weekly program, taking attendance and collecting money for meals, and storing all items away at the close of the meeting.

3 BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES: Brian Sheldon missed having us sing to him, but we celebrated the December Birthdays of Frank Lewandusky, Jean F. Hamlin and John Mulligan. And enjoyed Eve s delicious chocolate cake. We did not sing to celebrate Jim and Joanne Roger s December Anniversary as they would not have heard us as they are wintering in Florida. HAPPY DOLLARS: $ Bob Pasquarelli is happy that he apparently passed a stress test. According to Bob, who hasn t heard from his doctor yet, No News is Good News. $ John Brownrigg is happy to donate last week s winnings from the Progressive 50/50 to Wreathes Across America to put a wreathe on veterans graves on December 15. $ Pat Lane is pleased that former Key Club Lt. Gov. Michaela Mueller, of the Castleton Key Club, successfully arranged a 5 State Symposium for Women Engineers using leadership skills she learned in Key Club. $ Tim Murdick is happy that he also passed a recent stress test. $ Jim Colabelli was happy to receive a compliment on the quality of the Authentic Church of the Covenant Steamed Hotdogs sold at the church fair. $ Jean Hamlin is happy that the Poestenkill K-Kids Club is donating money earned from the sale of candy canes to the Back-Pack program. $ Peter Stevens, a connoisseur of fake news, gave a happy dollar in anticipation that his update on the House Committees work would be covered, incorrectly, in the local media. $ Bob Loveridge is happy for three days in the Finger Lakes region visiting 36 local wineries and for the fact that the Rensselaer County budget passed with no increase in taxes. DRAWINGS: DOOR PRIZE: provided by Peter Stevens, was won by Dave Booker. 50/50: Worth $22.00, was won by Jim Colabelli PROGRESSIVE 50/50: Worth $34.50 was not won this week. 4 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Roll Call: Board members present: President Nippes, Vice President Malecki, Immediate Past President Brownrigg, Treasurer Pasquarelli, Secretary Booker, Directors: Behson, Colabelli, Daniels, Lewandusky, Loveridge, Mulligan, Wagner & Weiss. Board members absent: Director Glasser. Others present: PSDLG Lane and Social Committee Co-Chair Ward. Approval of previous meeting s minutes: The minutes of the 11/5/2018 meeting were approved as published. Acceptance of Treasurer s report: Accepted for filing. Committee reports: for activity in November. Communications (Behson) Club bulletin (Behson, Lane, Mulligan, Loveridge, Sarsfield, Rogers & Booker): Six members devoted 27 total hours to taking notes and photos at the four club meetings; preparing the text for the club bulletins; editing the text and reformatting with pictures for publication on the web site; publishing the four issues and notifying the members and other interested individuals of the publications. Community Lettered Signs (Whipple): Lettered sign at Church of the Covenant advertising Concert and Christmas Bazaar; lettered sign in West Sand Lake advertising Kiwanis Spaghetti Dinner, veterans eat free, at St. Henry's Church; also advertised Kiwanis Spaghetti Dinner at West Sand Lake Fire House to be held on December 8. Time: 8 hours Facebook: (Jen Glasser/Behson): Two members reported a total of three hours for Facebook management and postings. Print media articles (Loveridge, Malecki): Reported that three members prepared media articles during November. Web site (Booker) one member spent 2½ administrative hours on the club s web site and Portalbuzz. Administrative (Behson): one member spent an hour preparing the committee report. Club Calendar (Behson) Reported that four members used 15 hours planning the calendar and/or collecting sponsorships. Club Meetings (Stevens) Nine members assisted with setting up, breaking down and storing the meeting paraphernalia and/or taking attendance and collecting for the meal at one or more of the four regular meetings - estimated 7 hours. Community Services (Glasser) Doors of Hope (Ginther/Daniels) Seven members volunteered 11 total hours unloading and storing food items from one or both of the two deliveries from the Northeastern Regional Food Bank (7829 lbs.) during November. Interclub (Pasquarelli) Six members attended the Interclub Meeting hosted by the Troy Kiwanis Club on November 7 and the Van Rensselaer Division Council Meeting that followed it. Membership & Education (Brownrigg) No report of activity received. Programs (Brownrigg) There were programs at each of the four regular meetings in November. Social Committee (Malecki/Ward) No report for November activities received. Spiritual Aims (Pasquarelli) There was no report submitted for the month of November. Sponsored Youth (Lane/Mulligan/Malecki/Nippes/Hamlin) Key Club (Mulligan): The Club Advisor attended the 2 Key Club meetings in November. The Key Club received 43 pints of blood in their recent blood drive; this exceeded their goal of 40 pints. Six members assisted Kiwanis at the Veterans spaghetti dinner and 5 members assisted the Sand Lake Center for the Arts during their Renaissance Fair held on Veterans Day. The Club is planning a trip to Josephs House sometime before Christmas to provide a meal. Club members have also adopted a family for Xmas and have been making dog toys for the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society. Algonquin Middle School Builders Club (Lane): The Club Advisor attended three meetings. The Builders Club has set up the hat and mitten tree to collect hats and mittens for Doors of Hope. They are planning to have a movie Night on Dec 6. The advisor can't attend the movie night but will buy the movie "Sherlock Gnomes." The attendance goes from 12 to 20 according to what else is going on in the school. Miller Hill/Sand Lake Elementary Schools K Kids (Hamlin): Next meeting 12/18. Calendars to be delivered 11/30. Poestenkill Elementary School K Kids (Hamlin): The Club Advisor attended one meeting and discussed the food drive and the Thanksgiving Food Basket project. Calendars delivered to club. Club to sell Candy Canes donated by Hannaford as a fund raiser for the Weekend Food Backpack Program. Members are making Christmas cards for veterans at the Walter Reed Military Hospital. The members are making hall banners to be displayed at the school for Christmas and New Year s.

5 West Sand Lake K Kids (Malecki): No report submitted. Ways & Means (Nippes) Pasta Dinner (Loveridge): At the November 10 Pasta Dinner 17 members volunteered 72 hours, 6 Key Club members volunteered 18 hours; a member s wife and a volunteer each provided 4 hours and 2 grandchildren volunteered 6 hours each serving 55 regular meals and 15 veterans who eat for free. Gross income from the meal was $ Young Children Priority #1 (Loveridge) One member distributed Bells of Life to various community businesses. community. Youth Services (Lane): 16 club members, the wife of a member, 2 volunteers and 10 Girl Scouts volunteered hours collecting food items from Hannaford, the Doors of Hope and the local schools; sorting and packing the food and distributing the food packages to 67 families with 160 children (23 of whom were 5 or younger) for the Annual Thanksgiving Food Basket program. The club supplemented the food donated food items with $1455 of Food Only gift cards. One member completed phone contacts and application and contact information for the Toys for Tots 2 hours. Ad hoc committees: Beatles Tribute Band concert fund raiser: one member reported contacting the Hey Jude Band regarding the proposed April 13 th concert at APHS. He forwarded the contract to the Club Secretary pending approval by the board. Old business: Membership recruitment initiative: (Tabled for Membership Committee report) (No report remained tabled) Beatles Tribute Band Fund Raiser: Approved to go forward: contract with Hey Jude band approve for signing. Appointment of Audit Committee: President Nippes reported that he had not made any appointments to the audit committee. Revised meal menu choices: Nothing new to report. New Business (previously introduced): Approve annual contribution to REACH: Approved. Approval donation to the Averill Park Youth Soccer League: Approved Request for donation to Jr. Achievement: Tabled until after the organization has made a presentation to the club. Additional funds for purchase of toys for the Christmas Food and Gift Program. Approved. Funds for Teenager gifts: Approved. Division News: The next Van Rensselaer Division Council is scheduled for January 18 to be held here. District News: The Mid-Year Conference is scheduled to be held at the Desmond February 14 through 17. International News: There are two Official Hotels for the Orlando Convention. Disney s Coronado Springs and Disney s Port Orleans Resort. Both are charging $175 a night. Convention registration has yet to be opened on line. Pay the Bills: All the bills approved for payment.
