2 AVERILL PARK YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE FOOD TRAILER SALES: Sundays in October at the APHS Soccer Fields Thanks to the members staffing the trailer on September 30: Jim Colabelli, Ron Wagner, Craig Daniels, Skip Patton, Joe Behson, Jean Hamlin & John Brownrigg. And on October 7: Stuart Nippes, Ron Wagner, Pat Lane, Craig Daniels, Jean F. Hamlin, Peter Stevens, John Brownrigg and Bob Pasquarelli, who provided emergency transportation of the trailer after the games. Hamlin, & Return Trailer: Stuart Nippes TROY KIWANIS INTERCLUB & VAN RENSSELAER DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING: 6PM Wednesday, November 7; Ret Front Restaurant, 71 Division St., Troy David Booker, Bob Pasquarelli, Peg Weiss, Pat Lane,, & ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Stu announced his appointment of John Brownrigg as our Sgt. At Arms deputized to fine members who interrupt a speaker. President Stu also, vowing to "have some fun and shake things up" told members wearing a Kiwanis shirt to head first to the buffet line for dinner. President Stu once more: It is with great pleasure that I announce our first non-structured social event. We will be having a social gathering at Westfall Cafe, October 18 from 6-8pm. There with be a cash bar and hors d oeuvres will be served. I will need a headcount by Monday the 15th. This is a great opportunity for us not only to network but to have a chance to get to know each other even better! So, bring a friend, bring a significant other and bring your neighbor! Let s enjoy each other s company. All I will ask is to wear something with Kiwanis on it... PROGRAM: Past President John gave a brief update of the Program Committee (a committee of one or perhaps the whole club.) He distributed the program schedule for the year and discussed parameters for future programs. Programs should be held to 20 minutes with another 10 minutes for questions and answers. John made note that travelogue presentations were not to be encouraged but rather we should seek out speakers who will provide information that will benefit club members as well as possible guests.
3 PRESENTATIONS: Joe Behson was presented a pin for 24 years perfect attendance BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES: Here's an oddity: we have no member birthdays in October! But we have plenty of wedding anniversaries to celebrate: Frank & Lynn Lewandusky, Peter & Nancy Stevens Jen (above) and the absent Justin Glasser, Tim & Kim Murdick, Jim & Terry Parslow and Bill & Betty Jean Whipple. We sang to those present and enjoyed Eve's delicious chocolate cake. HAPPY DOLLARS: $ Thank you note (thanks for the opportunity to work with Pat Lane at the Doors of Hope) delivered with a happy dollar from Nancy W. Davis. $ Joe B. for an enjoyable 3 weeks with Margaret visiting Amsterdam (not the one in NY), England and Wales. $ Jim C. for a great trip with Jan to Bordeaux, France. $ Dave presented happy dollars from Jean Hamlin who is so thankful for the Kiwanians who pitched in to get her a new car (the old one rusted out). $ Jim R. for the wonderful social and dinner gathering last week to install our new Officers and Board Members. $ Rose is happy that her niece moved here from Ireland. $ Pat for fun time with family and to announce that a family we previously helped during the holidays was now paying it forward by adopting a family themselves. $ Frank L. happy that Stu and Bob L. stepped up to help him with a project. $ Bob L. happy for his visit to D.C. with Joanne that included the White House (he was warned for peeking in Presidential closets), the Capital, the floor of the Senate and for leaving just in time to avoid the protesters. $ President Stu is happy he's forgiven for his food trailer mistake and for Frank L. and his Jeep. DRAWINGS: DOOR PRIZE: Joe B. won an extra meal and Peg won an IOU from John B. 50/50: worth $18 was won by 4-ticket-Jm C. who declined it and it was then won by Rose. PROGRESSIVE 50/50: has grown to $ but it eluded Peg's best effort - she drew the Ace of Hearts.

Communications (Behson) Club bulletin (Behson, Lane, Mulligan, Loveridge, Sarsfield, Rogers & Booker) Two members four hours taking photos at meetings; reported that three members spent six hours recording and transcribing the two issues of the club bulletin; one member spent 6.5 hours editing the transcriptions, preparing them for publication, adding photos to the issues, publishing them to the web site and notifying the members and others that the two issues had been published. Community Lettered Signs (Whipple): The sign continues to promote the Spaghetti Dinner with a date TBA. Facebook: (Jen Glasser/Behson) One member: 2 hours Facebook management and Summerfest Survey; second member: one hour Facebook management and posting. Print media articles (Loveridge, Malecki): One member reported ½ hour on an article for the Advertiser. Web site (Booker) one member spent 9 administrative hours on the club s web site and Portalbuzz. Administrative (Behson): One member spent 1 hour compiling committee report. Club Calendar (Behson) Four members reported 17 hours planning and/or collecting photo waivers and sponsorships. Club Meetings (Stevens) Eight members assisted with setting up, breaking down and storing the meeting paraphernalia and/or taking attendance and collecting for the meal at one or both of the two regular meetings - estimated 5.5 hours.
5 Community Services (Glasser) Doors of Hope (Ginther/Daniels) Seven members volunteered nine total hours unloading and storing food items from one or both of the two deliveries from the Northeastern Regional Food Bank (8098 lbs.) during September. Membership & Education (Brownrigg) No report of activity or prospective members received. Programs (Brownrigg) There were programs at each of the two regular meetings in September. There was no meeting on 9/2 Labor Day Holiday and 9/17 Annual Steak & Lobster Outing. Social Committee (Malecki/Ward) 21 members and guests attended the annual Year End Steak and Lobster Dinner. Spiritual Aims (Pasquarelli) There was no report submitted for the month of September. Sponsored Youth (Lane/Mulligan/Malecki/Nippes/Hamlin) The club kits are been delivered to the clubs. All Club Advisors now have the required Background checks. Key Club (Mulligan): The Key Club Officers held a short meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 12 which the Club Advisor did not attend. There was no meeting on 9-19 as a Superintendent s Meeting was held and the school was closed to students for the day. The Club Advisor attended the first full Key Club meeting of the year on Algonquin Middle School Builders Club (Lane): Builder's club starts on Oct.4 or 5. Two girls in the picture that for the calendar were officers of Builders Club and have signed permission slips. Mrs. Gaboury is going to send their names to Communications Chair. Miller Hill/Sand Lake Elementary Schools K Kids (Hamlin): No report received for activity in September. Poestenkill Elementary School K Kids (Nippes): No report received for activity in September. West Sand Lake K Kids (Malecki): No report received for activity in September. Ways & Means (Nippes) Pasta Dinner (Loveridge): No dinner held in September due to renovations at the WSL Fire Hall. Town-wide Garage Sale: Only three members reported working at the sale: 1 for 7 hours, 2 nd for 5½ hours and the third for 4 hours. (Secretary Booker repeated his request for a report of all the members that volunteered at the sale (either in the food trailer or the tent sales), what they did and how many hours were volunteered. IPP Brownrigg offered to provide the information.) Young Children Priority #1 (Loveridge) The club secured the date of Saturday, December 8 to collect for the Bells of Life Campaign at Crossgates Mall. Youth Services (Lane): Reported: great timing and work between Kiwanis and St. Henry's. Two very needy families from PES were supplied with a frozen turkey and a frozen ham. This was through the goodness of a parishioner from St. Henry s that needed her freezer emptied and wanted to give them to a needy family. The Chair told the social worker at the maternity hospital about the few baby sets remaining and I told the social worker and will be bringing them after Oct. 10. She was led to believe that the social worker now has a real office not a converted closet. Ad hoc committees: Van Rensselaer Division Golf Outing: in addition to numerous hours volunteered by two members attending to logistic and administrative issues prior to the event, one member and a member s spouse volunteered 12 hours each on the day of the event; another member volunteered 6 hours; a third member volunteered 4 hours; two other members volunteered five hours each as hole watchers; three members and two guests enjoyed the event s awards dinner; only three members participated as golfers. Old business: None New Business (previously introduced): Approve new Membership Recruitment Program: Tabled for a report from the Membership Committee Approve Budgets for the Administrative Year: Approved as presented. Cancel the October Pasta Dinner: Canceled as the Fire Hall is unavailable. November Dinner Honor the Veterans moved to St. Henry s Church. Leave of Absence Request: James Rogers s request approved. Other New Business: Approve gift for the Governor s Visit: $ donation to the Governor s Project approved as a gift.
6 Approve the use of the Hot Dog Steamer: The use of the club s hot dog steamer at the December 1, 2018 Church of the Covenant, UMC was approved Citrus Sale Fund Raiser: Cancelled Introduction of New Business to be considered at the November 5, 2018 Board Meeting: Results of the Summerfest survey. Division News: Six officers or Directors (of the 14 officers and directors,) one member (of the 30 other members) and a spouse have signed up for the Governor s Visit and Division-wide Club Officer and Director Installation. District News: The NY District opened 10 new clubs during the year. International News: KI International President Poly Lat sent an to the membership that each member should watch.
