2 2 ND ANNUAL SPECIAL NEEDS SPAGEHETTI DINNER Sunday, February 11 East Greenbush YMCA Set up 10AM to 2PM: John Brownrigg, Jean Hamlin, and Serve 2PM to 4PM: John & Pat Mulligan, Craig Daniels, Jim Colabelli, Peg Weiss & Jean F. Hamlin Clean up 4PM to 6PM: Jean F. Hamlin,, and ANNOUNCEMENTS: February is Kiwanis Membership Month. The Club will serve as the Lead Agency for a NØPIOIDS Project to properly dispose of unused drugs. President Brownrigg announced that Nancy Perry, the Town Supervisor, will update the Club on the State of Sand Lake on February 26. Pat Lane announced that we will host the Van Rensselaer Division meeting on January 22, and that a baby shower will held at this meeting to collect clothing for newborns. Please bring an article of clothing to donate to the collection. Craig Daniels asked that anyone interested in volunteering to help at Odyssey of the Mind program to be held in Rensselaer on March 10th contact him. Bob Loveridge announced that a total of $1,454 was raised by our club for Bells of Life at Crossgates Mall and an additional $350 was collected by local merchants for a total of slightly over $1,800. PROGRAM: Peter Stevens reported on the duties of the House and Reception Committee and thanked everyone who helps set up the room for meetings, collect money, and arrange for food at special events.

3 BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES: The Club members sang Happy Birthday to Bob Loveridge, Jean F. Hamlin (celebrating her December Birthday again) Jim Colabelli, and Skip Patton. Not present to celebrate their January birthdays with us were Melissa Bill and Jude Clemente We all enjoyed the cake that Eve had prepared for the occasion. Oddly, there are no January wedding anniversaries in the club to celebrate. HAPPY DOLLARS: $ Jim Colabelli for singing Happy Birthday (no matter how poorly) to him on his birthday. $ Pat Lane for everyone s help with our holiday food and toys project. $ Stuart Nippes for a great vacation trip throughout the south. He also gave a dollar for Frank Lewandusky who needs some happiness. $ Eve Ward who will get a new kitten this week. $ Peg Weiss for good trip to North Carolina to visit her great grandson. $ Jean Hamlin for a visit from her grandson who gave her a Pac Man shirt. $ Janet Malecki for her son, Adam, who qualified for the International Snowshoe Competition. $ Bob Loveridge who will be away for about a month in New York City, Puerto Rico and Granada. $ John Mulligan whose granddaughter, Ruby, came in 4 th place in her age group at a ski race on Sunday. DRAWINGS: DOOR PRIZE: Kevin Sarsfield won a Hannaford gift card. 50/50: worth $17 was won by Skip Patton won PROGRESSIVE 50/50: worth $ Bill Whipple who drew an 8 of diamonds from the 42 remaining cards in the deck. Lane PROGRAM: SLP Committee Update/Board Meeting INVOCATOR/GREETER: Jim Colabelli THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: When I was younger, I could remember anything, whether it had happened or not. Mark Twain Board of Directors Meeting Board members present: President Brownrigg, Vice President Malecki, Immediate Past President Hamlin, Secretary Booker and Directors: Behson, Colabelli, Daniels, Grillo, Lewandusky, Loveridge, Wagner & Whipple. Board members absent: President Elect Glasser, Treasurer Pasquarelli and Director Glasser. Also, present: Weiss Committee report highlights: for activity in December. Communications (Behson) Community Lettered Signs (Whipple): Signs lettered for Spaghetti Dinner on 12/9 & Christmas Eve services at Church of the Covenant. Time: 3 hours Community Services (Glasser/Glasser) Doors of Hope (Ginther) Ten members volunteered a total of 17.5 hours at one or both food deliveries to the local food pantry pounds of food were unloaded and stored. American Red Cross Blood Drive: Six members volunteered 18 hours assisting at the December 28 drive at the Church of the Covenant, UMC with the setup, registration, canteen and clean up. 26 total units were collected (21 regular and 2.5 double red. ) The next blood drive is scheduled for February 22. Membership & Education (Brownrigg) New member inducted during December. Sponsored Youth (Lane/Mulligan/Malecki/Nippes/Hamlin) Key Club (Mulligan): The advisor attended two Key Club meetings in December, on the 6 th and the 20 th. Club members adopted a family for Xmas and spent December 13 shopping for them in lieu of a meeting. During the December 20 th meeting, the Club wrapped presents for the adopted family, and ran a Pictures with Santa fund raiser. Jeff Brown provided a Santa Claus suit which was worn by one of the Key Club members and the advisor provided pizza and soda for the event. The Club raised about $40 during this event. The advisor spent about 3 hours for the two meetings. About 15 Key Club members attended the meeting on the 6 th of December and 12 on the 20 th. Algonquin Middle School Builders Club (Lane): Those kids continue to amaze the advisor. They put twoliter bottles in each homeroom with a slit cut into them and collected donations. The final amount collected has not yet been reported. As the Friday before Christmas there was a snow day, the advisor did not get to serve them their donut parties. The class room that collected the most is getting donuts the runners up in each grade are getting munchkins. This will be done on January 5. They also had a bottle drive. The advisor picked up all the bottles and took them to the cent recycling center. These programs are both for a school that was ruined in one of the hurricanes. Ways & Means (Glasser, Justin) Pasta Dinner (Loveridge): 11 members, one member s wife and two K Kid elves volunteered 65 hours shopping, preparing, serving and cleaning up after the 28 meals served at the monthly pasta dinner Citrus Sales: Citrus order received and distributed waiting for a final count of refunds to determine the profit.

5 Young Children Priority #1 (Loveridge) 13 members, a member s wife and a Key Clubber volunteered 42 hours at the Crossgates Mall collecting for the Bells of Life Campaign - $ was collected. Additional funds to be collected from donations received by local businesses. Youth Services (Lane): Youth services sure keep us busy this time of year. For the Holiday Food and Gift portion of the annual program we had 73 families and 190 kids (including 43 teenagers) that we helped to feed and provide gifts for. This happened with lots of help from 14 Kiwanians, a wife and one guest (133.5 hours) transporting, sorting, packing and distributing the food and gifts, as well as cleaning the American Legion Hall after the program. After the distribution it was discovered that there had been an additional 24 food boxes at Hannaford had been locked away for the program. These will be donated for use in the School Weekend Food Backpack program or a local shelter. New Business: Creation of a town-wide committee to raise funds for the Drug Take Back program. President Brownrigg appointed Murdick, Nippes, Glasser (Justin) and himself to be a committee to coordinate the efforts to create and fund a drug take back operation in the town. This effort is to include, but not be limited to the Girl Scouts, NØPIOiDS, Young s Pharmacy and SLKC. Proposal for the allocation of money raised at the pasta dinner fundraiser or to allow a sperate organization to hold fundraisers at the dinners: President Brownrigg referred the question to the Ways and Means Committee for a report. Introduction of New Business to be considered at the February 5, 2018 Board Meeting: Allocation and the division of funds to reimburse members attending the New York District Mid-Year Conference. Division News: Service project at the Division Council meeting Monday the 22 will be a Warm Feelings Baby Shower please bring an article of warm clothing for a new born. District News: On-line registration for the Mid-Year Conference (Desmond Hotel February 16 thru 18) is now open. Registration fee of $45 meals: Friday dinner $50; Saturday breakfast $30, lunch $40 and reception & dinner $70. Hotel rooms are $126 per night. International News: KI Convention (Las Vegas - June 28 thru July 1) hotel registration at Paris or Bally s Hotels ($106 - $146 per night) is now open. Convention registration to be available soon.
