1 NEWSLETTER November, 2015 Thanksgiving brings back memories of my mother s table set with lots of home-grown food like farm raised meat, eggs from her contented chickens and fresh vegetables from her garden. She had a huge garden and with canning and freezing, it provided food for most of the year. At the time, I didn t realize how lucky I was to have such wholesome and healthy food. Back then we seldom had what we called, store bought food, so things like overly soft Wonder bread seemed to be special to us. Now I see that it was mom s food that was special. She canned her garden produce, made homemade noodles, bread and the best dill pickles that I have ever had (I dare anyone else s pickles to compare to hers). The dining room table was the center of our home. We ate there, did homework there, and visited with friends & neighbors who dropped in. Remember when friends actually dropped in unannounced? Mom always had coffee, and a freezer full of frozen buns, summer sausage, cheese and deserts on hand for unexpected guests. We didn t have much but we always had plenty of food at our table. I guess that s why thanksgiving brings back so many memories of gatherings with an abundance of food. Today we have advances in technology, constant media and ways to make life easier. But we don t have my mom s table or homegrown food or friends who just happen to be in the neighborhood. I am grateful (after all it is Thanksgiving) and I enjoy my memories of growing up in a simpler time. How wonderful to have a month devoted to Gratitude, a spiritual practice that helps us to raise consciousness and restore our peace of mind. Oh and let s remember the Food Bank this November for those who could use some good food. Our Food Bank Box will be on the desk all November. Love & Blessings, Ann Marie

2 Thoughts and happenings from the President, Doug Barningham Many of us quickly find a spiritual home when we first come to Unity. In discovering part of our spiritual selves we learn that kindness and love come from within the heart. These are the thoughts and beliefs that continue to inspire me in maintaining a presence at Unity In The Valley. They have been a tremendous help in my personal and business life. So as the board continues to work on several projects to improve the facilities and our physical presence I show my gratitude for the prosperity that many individuals continue to show. It does all come from within your kindness and hearts. Without your blessings many of these projects would not happen. The north parking lot overflow is complete except for some type of walkway over the swale. The sidewalk ramp to the patio turned out well. (See pictures below.) We are still seeking estimates on a new sign for our church. The old ones were worthless and removed by a gracious member. This is another special project that will require funding from kind hearts. Plans for our annual Christmas Party are in full swing. We hope to have a low key and fun time. The next road cleanup is scheduled for December 5th at 9 a.m. Let us have a large crowd so we can also spruce up our patio for the busy winter season. As the holidays approach, we want to help make them happy for everyone!
