1 Dear Friends of the American Cancer Society, With great excitement we announce the American Cancer Society s 2009 Shave to Save luncheon happening Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Uptown Theater. As the 2009 Shave to Save chairs, we are committed to our goal of eliminating many emotional and financial concerns, reducing disparities in cancer care and improving quality of life for cancer patients and their families.

3 What is Shave to Save? One of the American Cancer Society s most exciting and unique fundraising experiences, Shave to Save is an event where men and women volunteer to shave their heads in honor or memory of someone who has been touched by cancer. This will be the eighth year for Shave to Save and it s the only event that directly benefits the Hope Lodge of Kansas City. To date, Shave to Save has had more than 80 Shavees and contributed over $750,000 to the operating budget of the Hope Lodge. For more information, please go to

4 Why should you participate? The Hope Lodge is the only facility of its kind in the KC area providing free, temporary housing to cancer patients and their caregivers during the duration of their treatment. The Hope Lodge has served more than 5,000 individuals and their caregivers since its doors opened in It s an amazing facility and has assisted countless families during a very trying time. Your organization can demonstrate its support for one of the largest and most respected nonprofit health organizations in the country through the American Cancer Society s Shave to Save.
