In November of 2007, KidWorks kicked off a premier fundraising event, Foundation for Success. Since that time, supporters like you have given generous event contributions each year that has empowered KidWorks to continue to restore at-risk neighborhoods one life at a time. Please join us on November 15, 2012 for our sixth annual KidWorks Foundation for Success luncheon at the Santa Ana Double Tree Hotel. The luncheon features former USC football coach, John Robinson, going head-tohead with myself as a former UCLA football coach to set the stage for The Big Game USC vs. UCLA, a short 48 hours later. Joining us on stage will be former USC Trojan quarterback, Paul McDonald, and wide receiver John Jackson and former UCLA Bruin quarterbacks Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook. 3 What is KidWorks? The mission of KidWorks is to restore at-risk neighborhoods one life at a time. KidWorks serves over 800 children, youth and parents in weekly programs and over 3,000 community members annually. Our three centers, the Dan Donahue Center, the KidWorks Center on Townsend, and the recently opened KidWorks Center at Bishop Manor, are all safe havens where children and families receive education and support to help them succeed. The centers are strategically located in neighborhoods that are characterized by gangs, low levels of education and dense housing. To meet the needs of the community in central Santa Ana, KidWorks has developed four core programs that are supported by staff, volunteers, youth, and parents: Academics & Arts: Preschool-12th grade students participate in classroom instruction, tutoring, art projects, STEM-based learning (STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and cultural programs. Health & Fitness: Children, youth, and parents participate in healthy eating and active living activities including soccer, dance, running, strength training, karate, and baseball. Youth and parents also promote policy changes to impact building a healthy community. College & Career Readiness: Children and youth participate in financial literacy training, college campus tours, job site visits, college application assistance, SAT preparation classes, and mentoring. Leadership & Character Development: Youth and parents are trained as leaders through partnerships with service groups, churches, government agencies, and businesses. Leadership teams carry out community service projects and influence policy makers.
