2 Mission: The National Guard Child and Youth Program supports Guard Youth in their community and throughout the deployment cycle. The National Guard believes it is vital to the mission to support readiness and resilience of National Guard Families. The Child and Youth Program establishes relationships within the community and promotes support for National Guard Youth. Goals: Education Provide life-skills education to children and youth of the National Guard, their caregivers, and community supporters. Access Promote access to Federal and State benefits that support children and families such as: counseling, education, child care and other resources needed to foster a healthy, stable and secure environment. Opportunity Create opportunities for participation in activities available across the spectrum of government, community, and the private sector to promote behavioral health, physical health and welfare of children and youth. Communication Build a sense of community by creating opportunities for Missouri National Guard Youth to network with peers, parents, and program facilitators in their community, state, and nation. Resilience Create resilient leaders within the National Guard youth to ensure future resiliency and leaders across the state and nation through educational programs. Outreach Build and sustain relationships with parents and children of the national guard in order to create awareness of available support services and programs; and with community support in order to connect National Guard families with resources. 2013 Highlights YOUTH SYMPOSUM The 2013 Youth Symposium in Missouri was held in our state s capital, Jefferson City, MO.

The Youth Symposium is the end of the year Youth Program event that bring youth from all over the state together to celebrate the end of the summer and

The focus of curriculum this year was: dare to dream, believe in yourself, and learn how to adapt to your environment by utilizing resiliency skills.

Monthly phone conferences are held on the last Sunday every month and quarterly face to face meetings are held in central locations.

3 2013 Highlights YOUTH SYMPOSUM The 2013 Youth Symposium in Missouri was held in our state s capital, Jefferson City, MO. t was a great weekend filled with magic shows, a unicycle riding guest speaker, resiliency training, bowling, rock climbing, and cave spelunking. n a group circle at the end of the event as we went around the circle and asked every youth what their highlight of the weekend was one youth stated, learning more about myself and that it is okay to be me. What an amazing confirmation that our program is helping create future leaders who are resilient! The Youth Symposium is the end of the year Youth Program event that bring youth from all over the state together to celebrate the end of the summer and build relationships with other peers experiencing similar life adjustments. The focus of curriculum this year was: dare to dream, believe in yourself, and learn how to adapt to your environment by utilizing resiliency skills. TEEN COUNCL Currently there are 9 Teen council members serving on the Missouri National Guard Teen Council. Monthly phone conferences are held on the last Sunday every month and quarterly face to face meetings are held in central locations. The teen council spearheaded the new 7 Habits of a High Effective Teen curriculum to kick off the push for FY14 and help educate peers in upcoming trainings. The teen council has really enjoyed learning how to become better leaders. They are currently planning new philanthropy projects, activities for FY14, and month of the military child Capital Display!

4 2013 Highlights Yellow Ribbon Events & Regional One Day Camps The Missouri National Guard Youth Program works in conjunction with Yellow Ribbon events to support families during the deployment and reintegration process. During a yellow ribbon event service members attend various briefings to help assist them and their support members with the deployment cycle including the reintegration process. The Child & Youth Program provides a place for youth to go during this time to learn how to deal with adjustments in their lives that will also occur during this cycle. Youth learn from each other and find community with peers. Curriculum for these events centers around: worries, fears, adjustments, and resiliency. This year, Missouri National Guard Child & Youth Program ran Yellow Ribbon events in concurrence with one day summer fun camps with great success. TEAM CHALLENGES! N E W N T A T V E ANNUAL REPORT

5 just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for allowing me to help with the youth this past weekend. The youth really impressed me with their understanding of their journey and personalities. f you're ever in the need of additional volunteers, please keep me in mind especially local to the Kansas City Area. SGT LaTeasha VanHousen, Administrative Tech, 1139th MP CO VOLUNTEERS 53 Volunteers helped with the 12 Yellow Ribbon Conferences and 22 total events held in the Missouri National Guard Youth Program in 2013 putting in over 1000 hours of volunteer service! n 2013 many service members also worked with our program as role models for the youth during events. Volunteers are recognized for their service yearly and awards are given to those who volunteer on a frequent basis and are considered invaluable to our program! CHLDREN AND YOUTH SERVED 470 Missouri National Guard Children and Youth and 8 Missouri Air National Guard children and youth were served this year through the Youth Program events and trainings. 369 of these youth were age 6-12 (8 ANG) and 109 were age Youth learned about the deployment and reunification process, resiliency techniques, and how to utilize skills learned to adjust to changes. Children and Youth were also able to build community and support with peers, volunteers, and staff.
