2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission The mission of Richmond Autism Integration Network (RAIN) is to enhance the social and spiritual health of individuals with Autism through creative social and recreational outlets specifically designed to help lay the foundation for building relationships as well as offer support through educational programs to their families and communities. Background RAIN was founded by the parent of a child with autism. In her search for a summer camp and after school opportunities for her son, she discovered there were not any programs designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum. RAIN was formed in 2011 and Camp Free2BMe launched in July Camp Free2BMe utilizes an evidence based peer to peer model. Peers are volunteers from the local middle and high schools. RAIN After School began in January 2014 and is the first licensed after school program for children with Autism. Impact In 2012, RAIN began as a small summer camp for children with a primary diagnosis of Autism or related developmental delay. By 2015 RAIN's Camp Free2BMe served 270 children with Autism ages 13 and up. Due to the high demand for a summer program for younger children RAIN has added a Jr Camp to serve children ages 6 to 12. Social Saturdays, a specific social skills training program started in the spring of 2015 with one class, has now grown to three classes served in 6 week blocks on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. This program is a huge success and will eventually grow into classes held throughout the week. Lastly, RAIN will begin an After School Social Club which will meet the needs of middle/high school students that have aged out of daycare but still need supervision and social opportunities. Needs RAIN is still a very young no-profit. The areas we need the most help in are in the area's of Board Membership, Grant Writing and Staff Development. RAIN has grown tremendously in the last year but due to lack of funding we have been unable to grow staff and rely heavily on volunteers. Our volunteer pool is fabulous and our relationship with the local colleges and universities is strong, however we need salaries to pay key staff members such as a business office manager and current "staff: CEO/Executive Director Statement As the parent of a child with Autism, I get it. I am taking this journey of Autism with over 125,000 fellow Virginians and their families. It is a journey that has been overwhelming, frustrating and amazing all at the same time. I love my children, I love Virginia and I love to serve others. Currently Virginia ranks 49th in the nation for services for special needs but 17th in the nation for population. Creating RAIN and growing it has given me the opportunity to serve all of those that I love and it gives others the same opportunity, to make a difference. RAIN has been the first in Virginia as a licensed after school recreation program, the first home school support program for kids with an ASD. We strive to continue to meet the ever growing and changing needs of our community and to offer our programs across the state. 4 Programs Programs Camp Free2BMe Description Camp Free2BMe is a summer camp specifically designed for children on the autism spectrum ages 8 to 18. Camp Free2BMe offers a unique opportunity for non autistic children (trained in Autism 101) to pair with autistic children and go out into the community to explore and participate in fun activities such as Peak Experiences, Swader's Sports Park, ice skating, swimming, and others. Budget $260, Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Yes The ultimate goal of RAIN's Camp Free2BMe is to offer children with autism the same opportunity of attending a summer camp with their non autistic peers, participating in the same activities and having the chance to enjoy both in a safe and understanding environment. Long term,we for see several camps like ours in different communities all over the state offering all children the opportunity to have a summer camp experience. Our first summer, June 2012, we enrolled 8 students with autism and had 20 volunteers from the local middle/high schools participate. The middle/high school students earned their volunteer hours for school by participating in Camp Free2BMe. The first summer session ran for three consecutive weeks. In 2013 we had 28 students with autism enrolled and 32 middle/high school students and 20 college students volunteer. The volunteers went back to their respective schools sharing information about their experience working with autistic peers which in turn has generated more interest and a quest to find more understanding about autism from non autistic peers.the summer of 2015 we served 270 students on the autism spectrum and utilized 50 peer buddies and 4 college interns. The expectation for 2016 is to serve over 300 students with autism. RAIN After School Description RAIN After School is a specialized after school program for both children on the autism spectrum and their "neuro-typical" peers. This program is designed for children 8 and up. The focus is on strengthening the personal growth of our students through social and recreational experiences. Budget $260, Social Saturday Description RAIN Social Saturdays run in six week blocks and encompass a set of social skills for adolescents (Ages 10+). Skills are taught through direct instruction using ACCESS Curriculum. Guided practice takes place with peer buddies and therapeutic recreation activities. Recreational activities offered include Cooking, Art, Music, Chess Club, Science Club and will vary each week. Budget $2,

Our current board is stronger and the members dedicated but we could still use members that have served on a board in the past and can heklp develop our current board into a much stronger group. 6
