The spermatonium has an oval shape, in which t here are dispersed chromatin, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum vesicles. The primary spermatocyte contains decon2 densed chromatin, a large amount of endoplasmic reticulum vesicles, special membrane sys2 tem and crystalline lattices. In t he secondary spermatocyte emerges a cavity which is formed by t he aggregation of endoplasmic reticulum vesicles. The early polarized spermatid has a conspicuous proacrosomal vesicle at one pole, a dense apical condensate formed at the top of t he vesicle. A homogeneous nucleus and some cytoplasm containing only t he membrane sys2
6 tem, mitochondria, etc. lie to t he opposite pole. In t he mid2stage spermatid an invagination of the acrosomal vesicle membrane gives rise to the formation of the perforatorium, in which a shapeless tubule originates from the membrane system. The nucleus enlarges and the chro2 matin begins to arrange into fibers. In t he late spermatid t he nucleus differentiates into nu2 merous slender arms, the spherial acrosome further develops into acrosomal tubule and acro2 somal vesicle. The acrosomal vesicle includes an apical cap, a subcap zone, an inner layer and an outer layer. The mature sperm has a top2like shape, the apical cap can be divided into three thin layers (two dense layers and one lucent layer). Outside of the outer layer are 223 lamellar st ruct ures. Microt ubules of t he perforatorium in t he cent ral cannal present a conical appearance.
