3 Aim of the course Fertility preservation is one of the most important challenges for physicians working in the field of human reproduction. Nowadays, the procedures aimed at preserving and restoring fertility in women should not be limited to patients undergoing oncological therapy but should also be available in other clinical conditions in which the reproductive function can be impaired, such as endometriosis, premature ovarian failure and ovarian ageing. Endometriosis, which affects 14 million reproductive-aged women in Europe and 150 million in the world, is one of the leading causes of infertility and it is estimated that 30-40% of women affected by endometriosis is infertile. Nevertheless, the mean time to diagnosis for this pathology is nine years. Indeed, a correct multidisciplinary approach is absolutely mandatory to diagnose endometriosis earlier and to better treat the affected women. This symposium aims to provide a broad and up-to-dated review of endometriosis (genetics, pathogenesis, treatment, reproductive outcomes) and an examination of the techniques for oocyte and ovarian tissue cryopreservation that are clinically available as well as those that are still in the experimental phase. To achieve this objective, the meeting has a distinguished panel of speakers who have dedicated their professional life and scientific activity to endometriosis and the preservation of female fertility. In particular, the symposium is a tribute to Prof. J. Donnez, one of the pioneers of female fertility preservation, whose experience and knowledge represent a precious gift for all physicians working in reproductive medicine. Learning objectives After attending the meeting, the participants will be able to: Apply the principles of early diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis in clinical practice Describe the most recent clinical procedures for oocyte and ovarian tissue cryopreservation Recognize the challenging future objectives for the experimental research Target audience Gynecologists with specific surgery skills, reproductive clinicians and biologists who work in the field of endometriosis and oocyte and ovarian tissue cryopreservation. 6 Call for abstract Authors are requested to send their abstract by by August 20, 2012 to the following address: All applicants must register to the meeting to be able to participate to the call for abstract. Topic choice Endometriosis Ovarian tissue cryopreservation Submission procedure Abstracts must be written in English. Abstracts should be 1 page in length and include the title of the presentation, the author s names, the name of the institution, the city and country. The abstract should be structured with an : Introduction : informative and short; Material and Methods : indicating the location, number and type of human subjects, non-human species or material being studied, the principal procedures, assays, tests or treatments performed; Results : confirming or refuting the hypothesis, supported by statistics if appropriate; Conclusions : stating the major new findings of the study and specifying what these findings add to what is known already. Abbreviations: can be used after defining them first. The use of graphs, tables and images is strongly discouraged. Abstract title: do not use capital letters and do not indent. The title should reflect the contents and should be no longer than 150 characters. Authors: list the authors with initials first, followed by family name (i.e. B. Jones; J. Smith; and A. Simpson). Include the affiliation. Do not include professional titles or degrees. Font: use font Times New Roman, size 12, and line spacing 1.5. Prize The best abstract for each topic (endometriosis and ovarian tissue cryopreservation) will be honored by Prof. Donnez during the meeting and will receive a price of 2000,00. The Scientific Committee will review the submitted abstracts and choose up to 10 best abstracts (5 in endometriosis and 5 in ovarian tissue cryopreservation) for a poster session at the meeting. 4
