2 INTRODUCTION Neurocritical care has evolved over the past twenty years in parallel with the growth of critical care medicine and the stunning developments in the fields of neurology and neurosurgery. Advances in imaging and a better understanding of the pathophysiology of neuronal injury have revolutionized the management of patients with acute stroke. Today the Neurological Intensive Care Unit is the very epicenter for acute stroke intervention and the care of complex, critically ill patients with neurological disease. Neurocritical Care 2011: Across the Universe is designed to showcase this revolution. For our 9th Annual Cleveland Neurocritical Care & Stroke Conference, we have gathered a distinguished group of world leaders to review the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of acute stroke. As in the past, this conference will have an innovative, informal, Rock and Roll-themed format so as to create an experience that is both educational and enjoyable. Our 4th Annual CWRU Critical Care Bioinformatics Workshop will focus on advances in Health Information Technology and ICU informatics. Our 3rd Annual CWRU TCD Ultrasound Workshop will provide a complete review of ultrasound principles, techniques, and interpretation. And finally, our 2nd Annual Cleveland Music and Medicine Symposium will explore the fascinating intersection of music and the brain and music and health. Please join us for Neurocritical Care 2011 either in Cleveland or On-line! More information can be found at Who Should Attend This symposium is designed for neurointensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, critical care physicians, internists, hospitalists, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals. Objectives After attending the 9th Annual Cleveland Neurocritical Care and Stroke Conference participants will be able to: Review the indications for admission for patients presenting with TIAs Recognize indications for use of dabigatran versus warfarin Review the workup and management of patients with cryptogenic stroke Review the best treatment of acute carotid artery occlusion Review how best to diagnose and treat migraine-related stroke Compare and contrast the various methods of reversing anticoagulation Review the best treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage

3 Understand prognostication in patients with stroke and cardiac arrest Identify DVT prophylaxis methods for patients with stroke Review the latest updates in induced hypothermia for cardiac arrest and stroke After attending the 4th Annual CWRU Critical Care Bioinformatics Workshop participants will be able to: Understand the current state of the information architecture in the ICU Identify current challenges in data acquisition and analysis in critical care Review advances in data integration developed on the battlefield Identify emerging tools to integrate data from multiple sources Understand how complex systems analysis can be used to forecast physiology in the ICU After attending the 3rd Annual CWRU TCD Ultrasound Workshop participants will be able to: Understand the underlying principles of TCD Sonography Recognize the role of TCD in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage Review the role of TCD in patients with increased ICP and brain death Understand the role of emboli monitoring with TCD sonography Review how to best document, code and bill for TCD services Continuing Education The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education to physicians. Neurocritical Care and Stroke Conference: The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM.
