2 Sleep disorders are common problems encountered in pediatric practice, yet under recognized to a large extent. The consequences of under-diagnosed and untreated sleep problems may include significant emotional, behavioral, cardiovascular and neurocognitive dysfunction. The major objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the common pediatric sleep disorders. It is aimed towards pediatricians, family practitioners, sub-specialists, and nurse practitioners treating children and young adults. It will include review of normal sleep physiology in children and circadian rhythm sleep-cycle. Specific areas of emphasis will be towards evaluation and treatment of sleep apnea, night-time awakenings in childhood, difficulty with initiating and maintaining sleep and promoting good sleep hygiene in adolescents. It will review the current standards of practice, and give cutting edge updates about recent developments in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric sleep disorders. There will be a break-out session which will cover various technical aspects of pediatric sleep studies.

3 O B J E C T I V E S At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to: Describe normal sleep patterns in children of different ages, including the circadian sleep cycle and sleep homeostasis Understand and describe the impact of various sleep disorders in the pediatric population Have a working knowledge of diverse sleep disorders in children Incorporate recent trends in pediatric sleep medicine into their current practice Have specific questions answered by our expert panel H I G H L I G H T S Key note lecture titled Obesity and OSA: Epidemiology and Genetics by Dr. Susan Redline, MD, MPH, Peter C.
