Growing up we are taught to trust people in positions of power, but should we? Often individuals who are unfamiliar with each other develop connections through stages described by Tuckman as forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. How do those stages surface within a group through trust, power, and value? Peer Crowds Matter Using the concept of adolescent peer crowds - that is, collectives or subcultures with shared norms, values, styles and preferences, this session will help you better design and disseminate your messages. The FDA s Fresh Empire tobacco education campaign will be presented as an example. Art ReActivisms in Schools In this session you ll see first-hand the pilot program that was first implemented during the spring semester at Willard Alternative High School in Missoula to develop an intervention strategy to address the high rate of smoking within the alternative high school student population. Jernberg created lesson plans centered on mixed media artistic expression and tobacco use education. Experiential learning connects individuals with different learning styles through what works best for that individual. But how do you connect to a group of individuals with varying learning styles and facilitate goal completion? It is all in program delivery and understanding how to utilize Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in a non-obtuse way. Participants will learn more about how Adverse Childhood Experiences impact youth tobacco use, and discuss how the strategies utilized in the film relate to current efforts in tobacco prevention. Point of Sale Activities for Youth Are you unsure of how to teach kids about point-of-sale? When it comes to point-ofsale, the most effective way to leave an impression is to show people first-hand what tobacco marketing tools look like. Come to this session and learn how to take kids (or adults!) on a convenience store scavenger hunt.
