3 WHY WE SERVE In 1950, a young policeman was gunned down in Detroit. The community responded by forming a voluntary program to demonstrate public support for police services. Over the years, 100 Clubs have been formed throughout the United States. The clubs operate independently of one another. The San Mateo County 100 Club was formed in 1972 by John Linforth who was a member of the Detroit Club. He discussed the idea with District Attorney Keith Sorenson. He along with all the Police Chiefs agreed this would be a great benefit to San Mateo County. The 100 Club currently includes over 100 members whose financial support and volunteer efforts have had a significant and positive impact on law enforcement in San Mateo County.
