2 I. GENERAL INFORMATION General and oral pathology is held during winter semester of second year of study with a total number of 60 hours of theoretical and 30 hours of practical training. Theoretical teaching is held in the amphitheaters of Faculty of Medicine by the schedual that is going to be published at the beginning of the semester by the student service. Practical classes are held at : 1. Department of Pathology and Histology, Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad. Theoretical and practical lectures of the course lead: 1. Two full professors 2. One associate professor 3. Three assistant professors 4. Two teaching assistants II. PROGRAM of theoretical lectures A. GENERAL PATHOLOGY 32 hours * Introduction 1 hour * Environmental diseases 2 hours * Cell demage and death 3 hours * Degeneration 4 hours * Circulatory disorders 4 hours * Inflammations 4 hours * Repair and regeneration 4 hours * Developmental and genetic diseases 2 hours * General pathology of neoplasia 8 hours B. ORAL PATHOLOGY 28 hours * Pathology of the mouth 4 hours * Pathology of salivary glands 4 hours
3 * Pathology of teeth and jaws 6 hours * Changes in the mouth related with the diseases of endocrine system 2 hours * Changes in the mouth related with hematological diseases 4 hours * Changes in the mouth related with dermatological diseases 4 hours * Changes in the mouth related with nutritional disorders 4 hours III. PROGRAM of practical training - 2 hours per week in the winter semester Histological diagnostics During the semester, students attend the exercises of the histological diagnosis two hours per week according to the schedule that is going to be published under the general schedule classes for students of the Medicine Faculty. These exercises are held at the Department of Pathology and Histology in the hall for microscopy on the first floor of the School of Medicine. Students are required to wear white laboratory coats during practical teaching. From academic year 2015/2016, the teaching of histopathological diagnosis is performed on computers with scanned histological slides, which will allow interactive teaching and easier way to master the subject matter of this type of diagnosis. Department believes that the introduction of digital microscopic diagnosis is of great importance to the improvement and modernization of the teaching of pathological anatomy. This type of instruction will allow students to review and practice all slides throughout the year so there is no need for performing the pre-examination exercises. EXAM Examination of General and Oral Pathology consists of two parts: 1. Pre-exam activities 2. Final - oral part of the exam 1. Pre-exam activities include: - Regular attendance to the lectures, - Regular attendance and active participation in exercises with checking and evaluating knowledge on each exercise, - Passing the colloquium for practical training - Passing the eliminatory test of theoretical knowledge 1. Exercises At the last exercise of the semester students take the practical exam (description of the 3 slides in front of the teacher who has the right to ask theoretical questions related to the preparations). Recognition and proper description of 2 slides are required for a student to pass the practical exam. A student who does not pass practical exam can take the exam during the regular exam period.
6 Practical colloquium is graded (6 to 10) and the mark is signed at index. Practical exam is valid forever! 2. Theoretical exam 2.1. Theoretical test Before taking the final oral exam, students take an elimination test with 40 questions from the theory regarding general and oral pathology. The minimum number of points for passing is 60%, which is 24 correct answers. Passed theoretical test is valid forever! Elimination test is taken at regular examination periods starting from January-February's exam period of the current school year. The time and place of taking the test will be published on the website of Medical Faculty and at the bulletin board of the Department of Pathology and Histology. Students need to confirm taking practical exam, test and oral exam by leaving their signature at the Secretary of the Department (1st floor-medical School - Department of Pathology and Histology). The test results are published on the same day on official website of Medical faculty. It is possible to see the test after published results, at time and place that will be published with test results. After test students must sign on the list enrolled at the hall of Histology and Pathology Department, and select the desired date of examination. Department will try to meet the wishes of students (in the range of +/- 2 to 3 days) Oral exam Oral examination is conducted in the examination periods provided under the Statute of the School of Medicine Department of the Faculty of publication at the beginning of the school year and in line with the adopted Ordinance on examination at the Medical School. The theoretical part of the exam consists of four questions: two questions from oral pathology and two questions from general pathology. In case of constrained estimates examiners have discretion to set additional questions. For the oral exam, students 'electe teachers' by drawing cards with the names of predefined examiners randomly for each examination day. Department of Pathology has a common criterion that a candidate for a positive assessment must give a positive answer to each of the four questions. Time and place of the test and the theoretical exam stands out in a timely manner on the bulletin board of the Institute of Pathology and Histology, separately for each examination period because it is conditioned by the commitment auditoriums and gyms regular classes in Histology and Pathology. NOTE: The Department reserves the right to change the order in case of emergency. QUESTIONS FOR ORAL EXAM (applicable to all students of dentistry) 1. Mechanisms of cell injury 2. Necrosis 3.
