3 about little city winter /spring 2019 programming Recreation is an integral part of overall quality of life. Our elite recreation team provides opportunities, classes and programming that target participant s physical health and mental well-being. Along with the positive physical outcomes of these activities, the increased self-motivation and social interaction allows individuals to learn more about their own potential and natural limits, creating an increased sense of pride and self-purpose. The fitness, recreation and Special Olympics training programs at Little City provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities valuable opportunities for team involvement, good sportsmanship and social skills. These programs create a healthy, fun and challenging environment, where individuals are encouraged to increase their performance abilities while improving their health and wellness. The state-of-the-art Ethel B. and Joel H. Sharenow Center for Fitness and Recreation includes a movie theater, game room, Fitness Center with equipment specifically designed for children and adults with disabilities and a pool with a wheelchair lift. The recreational activities offered provide a forum for our individuals to challenge themselves and explore activities in a safe, enjoyable and structured environment. 4 rules & regulations general rules Always follow the instruction of the [LCF Recreation Staff/Coaches/Chaperones/Volunteers/Unified Partners] Respect all [facilitators, staff, volunteers, and other participants] Show respect for facilities and equipment Refrain from using profanity and inappropriate body gestures Refrain from [violent/disruptive/physical/verbal/abusive/sexual] behavior Commit to attending the program and participate fully in all activities/exercises Individuals must be able to independently use restroom and locker room facility [toilet, hand-washing, changing] or be taken with a guardian/staff member. The facilitator is not responsible for restroom assistance. When arriving and departing a program, parents/guardians/or home staff are required to notify the program supervisor Participants are expected to have appropriate attire for program participation (i.e. tennis shoes, warm-ups, lose/comfortable fitting clothing for athletic sports/exercise programs, swim suits, towels or other swim gear necessary. participation guidelines when illness occurs To prevent the spread of contagious illnesses, it is recommended that participants refrain from attending programs when any of the following exist: 1. Fever of 100 degrees or higher 2. Vomiting within the last 24 hours 3. Persistent diarrhea in conjunction with other symptoms 4. Contagious rash or rash of unknown origin 5. Persistent cough and/or cold symptoms 6. Pink eye (conjunctivitis) or discharge from the eye 7. Symptoms of mumps, measles, chicken pox, strep throat, flu, impetigo, head lice, mites, and ringworm 8. LCF facilitators may request that a participant submit a doctor s release in order to participate in LCF recreational programs or special events consequences of lcf rules infractions Non-compliance to any of the LCF Program Rules can result in or up to the following at the discretion of the LCF Recreation Staff: Verbal warnings Removal from any program Removal from entire session *The established rules are subject to change as required!
