Through a national survey Nasbro, Inc. has found that the number one complaint among middle school students is that school is not fun. In an attempt to make school more fun but maintain high educational standards. Nasbro, Inc. is conducting a nation-wide search for fun, educational games. We are offering an opportunity for a team of 3-4 students to design and create a board game that, if selected will be mass produced and distributed to all schools in the United States. B 9. 2 points (0 points for incorrect information, 1 point for incomplete answer, 2 points for complete answer) Running causes the pulse rate to increase because as you run muscles are forced to work harder, requiring more energy and producing more wastes as the energy is used. Nutrients and oxygen have to be delivered to the muscles. Wastes are removed and nutrients and oxygen are delivered to the muscles through the blood. Blood is pumped through the body by the heart. The heart must beat faster to supply the muscles with the extra blood resulting in increased pulse rate points (0 points for incorrect information, students must give two reasons for increased heart rate and breathing rate, 2 points for giving only one reason, 4 points for giving both reasons) Your heart rate and breathing rate increase significantly after running for two reasons. The first reason is-as muscles work harder they produce a waste gas called carbon dioxide. The blood picks up the carbon dioxide from the muscle cells and takes it to the lungs to be released from the body when you exhale. The harder the muscles work, the more carbon dioxide is produced. The heart beats faster to circulate the blood faster to remove the waste gas. You breathe harder to remove the carbon dioxide from the body. The second reason is; as muscles work harder, they need additional energy which is provided by nutrients and oxygen which are provided by the blood. The heart has to beat faster to circulate the needed oxygen and nutrients. The needed oxygen is supplied by the respiratory system. You breathe faster to take in the additional needed oxygen.
