2 Diabetes Self Management Program: Have you recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes? Are you unsure of what diabetes is? The Interlake-Eastern Community Wellness Team is here to help you. This program consists of two or three classes; explaining what diabetes is, how to control blood sugars, what to eat with diabetes and how to read food labels, treatments for diabetes, how to stay healthy from your eyes to your toes, how to manage cholesterol and blood pressure and how to make healthy lifestyle choices. 6 Feeding Your Baby Intro to Solids: Do you have questions about feeding your growing baby? A registered dietitian will answer your questions about introducing solids to your baby. You are more than welcome to bring your baby. Stonewall: Dates: Wed. July 6 th Time: 10:00 am to 11:30 am Location: Stonewall Hospital MPR Mobile Wellness: Mobile Wellness (MW) events are free events that bring a team of health care professionals to provide education and help you make healthy lifestyle choices. MW encourages people to be aware of the factors that affect their health and the things that they can do to improve their health. MW includes: a health check (blood pressure, blood glucose, and a lifestyle quiz); healthy displays on physical activity, nutrition, smoking and stress, healthy lifestyles presentation and a passport to record results. 7 Get Better Together: Are you living with a chronic condition such as arthritis, MS, depression, asthma, chronic pain, diabetes, anxiety, cancer, fibromyalgia or heart disease? Come join Get Better Together! People with different chronic health problems attend together to deal with common issues they face and to motivate each other with solutions and techniques for: Dealing with frustration, pain, fatigue and isolation Appropriate exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance Appropriate use of medications Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals Maintaining appropriate nutrition Engaging with other community resources This FREE six week workshop is designed to help people with ongoing health conditions take control of their health. This program, led by others living with chronic conditions, can help you develop a plan to deal with the challenges of an ongoing health concern or disability. Bring a friend, family member, or other support person to attend with you! Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Stonewall: Dates: Wed. 13 Ongoing C Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring Sessions - Class Schedule may change at any time April 2015 Interlake Swim Association For over thirty years the Interlake Swim Association (ISA) has worked to provide quality water safety instruction to rural and remote communities in the Interlake region. Throughout the months of July and August, certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructors (WSI) are employed by the ISA and stationed within participating communities to teach pre-school and Red Cross Swim Kids swimming lessons. In 2016 alone, lessons will be provided to over 400 children in twelve communities including Matheson Island, Steep Rock, Lake Manitoba FN, Gimli, Winnipeg Beach, Rosser-Woodlands, Long Point (Eriksdale), Moosehorn, Netley Creek, St. Laurent, Silver Bay (Ashern) and Lakeshore Heights. Through its partnership with these communities, the ISA offers affordable and accessible lessons that provide children with the valuable knowledge of staying safe in the water and with the lifelong skill of swimming.
