1 POST P R O V I D I N G A L L L I V I N G S U P P O R T S A message from our CEO ISSUE # 2 MONTH/S - April, May & June UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES 29th June - End Of Term 2 9th July - Term 3 Commences 27th Sept - End Of Term 3 28th Sep - AFL Grand Final Day Hi Everyone Hope you are all managing to stay warm and well as the cold weather bites and we bunker in for the winter. There are lots of exciting things happening in our service at the moment and lots of work being done to prepare everyone for the NDIS. The LAC (Local Area Command) was announced last week for our region. It is an organization named Interreach who is based in Deniliquin. These are the people who will assist you to navigate the NDIS. They will provide planning and coordination services to give people living with a disability choice and control over the services they use. They also support people to navigate mainstream services and become an active part of their community. Expect to see some LAC offices pop up around the region. There is no need to make contact with them directly as they will contact you to arrange a meeting. In the interim if you would like us to assist you with pre -planning please contact Kate McRae at our office. The Service Review work is continuing as we work toward adopting the recommendations highlighted by the Nucleus group of consultants. This has included developing new policies, improving the quality of our support plans and outcome monitoring, having a greater focus on health and generally developing systems that improve the quality of the services we deliver. Again, we thank everyone for their involvement in this process particularly the staff who are working exceptionally hard to improve the service. PALS has been the recipient of three (3) very generous donations recently. Numurkah Rotary contributed $1700 toward subsidizing the cost of the Tri State Games for later this year. Also, the Mason s in Numurkah have donated $2000 to the Numurkah Op shop which is being used to purchase multiple items including a new till, heater, storage shed and shelving. Tocumwal Golf Club donated $468 to the organization following the recent PALS Charity Golf Day. We extend a very sincere thanks to these organizations for their ongoing support. PALS wishes to take this opportunity to welcome Christine Perus into the Team Leader role at Cobram. Christine who is a social worker has extensive experience in community services including children s services. Kasey Damon who is the Senior Disability support worker at Cobram and acted in the Team Leader role for several months has now gone on maternity leave. We welcome Christine to the organization and wish Kasey all our best wishes. PALS has a new Committee of Management member in Bronwyn Stanley. Bronwyn who has extensive experience in the disability sector previously worked for the organization over 5 years ago. We welcome Bronwyn to the organization and thank her for interest in assisting the organization with its governance obligations. Just to highlight some of the exciting activities the clients are involved in or are planning to be involved in are: A group of Cobram clients just recently attended a computer course at Cobram Community House. Several clients went to Phantom of the Opera in Echuca last weekend. A group of 17 clients are going to the Wizard of Oz on Cardwell s buses in July. Circus Quirkus which is on in Shepparton in July has sent us 100 tickets to distribute amongst our clients. Numurkah Hospital is applying for a grant to purchase some bicycles to start a Bike Riding Group for the Aged and Disability to promote health and wellbeing which they would like PALS to be involved in. Jarryd Cutler from Valley Sports in organizing a soccer match in Wangaratta for people with disabilities on June 22 nd. Jarryd also developed the very successful Fit for Life 12- week program which Cobram clients just recently completed (with certificates). Pioneer Lodge in Numurkah is organising an activity group which they have extended to PALS also. A group from Numurkah will attend Padgett s Horse Riding school as an end of term event. We have many clients who have recently gone on holidays and several more who are planning to go to Football matches in Melbourne. Lastly, we ask if there is anyone in our group of family, friends, staff or clients who belongs to a Sporting group or Club that you think our clients may be interested in joining or capable of participating in and enjoying could you please contact us. 2 POST Pals would like to say a big thank you to Louise Eliott for her outstanding service and commitment to Pals and we would like to wish her all the best in her future endeavourers. Clients from Nelson street enjoyed a lovely trip to Cobram's Thompsons Beach over the weekend with a picnic and very sunny weather. 2. Brendan's first day on the job at Nathalia supermarket stocking shelves. A very proud moment for all at Pals. Congratulations Brendan keep up the good work.

3 POST Our PALS for life program visited Cobram District Specialist School with our facilitator Jarryd from Valley Sports to chat all things about good decision making Daniel has put a lot of hard work into creating this amazing garden bed at O Connor street Numurkah campus.
